Re:Ask HN: Where After WordPress? on Wednesday October 16, 2024 @02:25AM (#41856148)
No. Drupal is only suitable if an organization requires open source. To develop a fully customized site still saves more time than using Drupal. And your maintenance path will be much simpler.
Re:WordPress Alternatives on Friday October 11, 2024 @07:50AM (#41808650)
100% TRUE.

Also, a simple and workable e-cart

I tried many alternatives. Their upgrade path is painful.

Re:WordPress Alternatives on Friday October 11, 2024 @07:48AM (#41808631)
WP plugins are very stable. It's their advantage.
Wait, is it true? Did you encounter a bug? or browser extensions issues? It may not be as efficient as native, but I downloaded some sample files and repeated them until hit Google Docs limits. It is about 450 pages with some images. It is smooth and usable. There's zero delay. (and only 1000MB ram usage with many broswer extensions enabled. I think it's fair...)
I also have 5 HDDs fried because the PINs problem..SAD! I wonder why there're no standard for these cables..

also, I wish the EU / GOV would take action to ask HDD companies to provide affordable, repairable services for these PCB problems.

Re:WebKit Supports Nested CSS on Thursday February 16, 2023 @12:41AM (#34815482)
I wonder if any editor (vscode or plugin) support nested search soon...
Re:I found a loophole to prevent those pesky cookie notices on Tuesday December 20, 2022 @10:02AM (#34066789)
totally waste my time to read it. I opened your company site and found 4 cookies and no cookies popup. So the trick is no cookies popup even you have cookies.
Re:Why is every podcast sponsored by a VPN company? on Wednesday September 14, 2022 @08:05PM (#32845220)
Why? "sponsored by VPN" is the most common ad platform they can sign it up themsevles and have a good returns. And usually the new sign up have 80~100% cashback for the first time...
Last time I tried to create an annoymous account ,they asked for tel verification. (not exactly when you sign it up but after a few day)

Re:Apple announces Self Service Repair on Wednesday November 17, 2021 @12:41PM (#29256179)
It's good. Last time I took my macbook to their bar. I want to repair a stick key but they requested me to replace the whole bottom becasue they saw some water overthere. The final bill is about $800 USD.
Re:RFC: Make NPM install scripts opt-in on Friday November 05, 2021 @03:44PM (#29123924)
default or not, you still run it... I doubt regular developers will review the whole script before run it.

how many Linux users copy&paste the command from random webpages without doubt? It's 100% opt-in. So it won't help at all.

Just realize how simple is it with the built in VNC. But it just show a DOT for mouse cursor :s And I tried "chrome remote desktop", also good quailty text. But both causing cpu hogging.
What app do you used for remote work? I've tried teamviewer / anydesk, but the text always blurry.

(I have 4k screen and need to scale up the text size to 2560*1440. Then I found these app only take the 2560 screen to remote)

I wonder if any macOS app able to do scaling and adding black border around the screen like what "nvidia scale resolution" does in Windows.

My monitor have light leakages issues. In Windows, I scale it down and use black tap covered all 4 edges. It looks like a normal screen. :)

When I use it as macOS external, I have to guess the top menu position :p

Re:Apple MacBook Pro 14 and 16 Review: Return to Form on Friday October 29, 2021 @03:44PM (#29042740)
I saw "Adobe Premiere Pro" benchmark everywhere for cross-platform. But I wonder if their output video quality is the same (when GPU/hardware encode enabled, they using diff codec)? And in the above benchmark, is it comparing GPU accelerated M1 Max to non-GPU enabled PC (even they have a RTX)? Look at the chart, 3070 is slower than 3060. It's non-sense.

I watched a youtube video before, their M1 Max is twice faster than RTX 3090 machine on their Premiere test. What makes the diff :s

Re:TagSpaces: Organize Your Files with Tags on Sunday October 24, 2021 @01:25PM (#28980037)
Not bad. But I can imagine that it will be more powerful to make a better file explorer (icon / thumbnail view) & tagging extension to VSCode

PeaZip has many good features, eg smart new folder. But the UI is pretty slow.
Re:Whitehouse.gov Chooses WordPress, Again on Saturday January 23, 2021 @08:56PM (#25888218)
Even IE6, that's no security problems on a well-made & trusted website. And a website doesn't support IE6 can't prevent the attacts usually (eg. XSS)

> effort

this simple theme can code in ONE day.

Re:Whitehouse.gov Chooses WordPress, Again on Saturday January 23, 2021 @08:50PM (#25888171)
Add feature to WP should be easier than Drupal. In WP, you only write pure PHP. (Lack of APIs for common elements) But in Drupal, mostly you have to interact with Drupal APIs.
Re:Whitehouse.gov Chooses WordPress, Again on Saturday January 23, 2021 @08:36PM (#25888058)
I'm surprised they dropped the IE supports. (It's failed on my testing, and the CSS syntax they used shown they never think about it.) For their 2% rules, they shouldn't drop the minors. https://github.com/uswds/uswds/issues/3877

This is a super clean and simple feature website. They could offer supports very widely, and the cost won't be high! (I'm a web developer)

Re:Scrollbar Blindness on Thursday August 27, 2020 @02:37PM (#24297017)
WSL2 has no built-in background services. That's a huge issue for me. And I don't have 100% confidence in it. It has many little bugs on each builds.

Why do you miss Finder? Search feature? Preview.app? Opposite to you, I never like it.

Re:Scrollbar Blindness on Thursday August 27, 2020 @02:27PM (#24296872)
A lot of developers I worked with only using their MacBook & iPhone to do tests. Many sites do not fully responsive also. For example, the github.com only support 1280px width and above. Below that, padding & buttons rendered incorrectly.

And I think this is a trend in the open-source that developers reject Windows patches, or never really try to fix the bugs.

Now a lot of tools are only designed for MacOS first. Linux is extra because it's easy to migrate. For example, Facebook Watchman. It's about 5 years but still unstable for Windows I think.

And many web tools, even Android development, I found it's no errors in MacOS but have to fix the config or do extra yourself to get it to work properly.
