That's a really cool idea! I've used a similar program called subs2srs (http://subs2srs.sourceforge.net/). It's made specifically for converting subtitled movies into flash cards for language learning.
I'll have to give this a shot over the weekend.

>Piracy is illegal , it would be like saying , since i cant afford these shoes i must fight "monopoly" by stealing them ... uber stupid.
So what if it is illegal? It is the moral responsibility of a citizen to disobey laws they believe are unjust. If I have strong convictions that piracy laws are unjust, not only do I not care if they are illegal, but I will actively encourage other people to ignore these laws. This is just one way of achieving the goal of change.
Your other suggestion is completely right though, we should also be willing to support the artists whose values align with our own.

Maybe I only had to make 1 or 2 angel investments (and not 5) to learn what I did?
That bullet point stood out because it reminded me of a passage from "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator": It cost me millions to learn that another dangerous enemy to
a trader is his susceptibility to the urgings of a magnetic personality when
plausibly expressed by a brilliant mind. It has always seemed to me, however,
that I might have learned my lesson quite as well if the cost had been only one
million. But Fate does not always let you fix the tuition fee. She delivers the
educational wallop and presents her own bill, knowing you have to pay it,
no matter what the amount may be.Having learned what folly I was capable of,
I closed that particular incident.
Sometimes you just have to pay your tuition.Edit: Formatting

I dare not try and reexplain the discussion in this bug report as my understanding feels insufficient, but the entire discussion at http://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=761#c14 (note, I've linked to the 14th commment in the discussion, but there's more interesting stuff above) talks about it. At the core is a distinction between v8's internal representation of strings and it's API vs. what a browser engine which embeds v8 might do.

I know you're making a joke, but can we please avoid demeaning references to animals like this? I understand everyone isn't bothered by the fact they there aren't "people like them" as positive role models in the community, but it sure is something that makes me uncomfortable.
And to see my distress about it casually written off makes me feel like shit.

That's a bit of a disingenuous comparison. Organizing a conference that should be representative of a very large, diverse community is not quite the same as organizing personal activities.

He's thanking someone for taking the time to correct a possible mistake he made; In turn he's pledging to attempt to avoid further similar mistakes.
All in all, I think this was a wonderful exchange.

I think enough people confuse Zelda and Link that she'll be able to get away with it

He's referring to the Playstation Mobile SDK, which targets Sony mobile devices (PSP, PS Vita, etc.). They've ported mono to run on them and adopted a mono toolchain.
