Sure, if you have an IQ of 80.
Re:Scattered thoughts on how doing math feels these days on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:01PM (#50297467)
I agree, a colossal amount of human effort had to go into building the machine in the first place.
Re:Scattered thoughts on how doing math feels these days on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:31PM (#50297138)
Are you suggesting the ~500 mathematical results they have released over the past year are primarily human discovered?

I think they would have employ just about every mathematician on earth for that to make sense.

I don't think you understand what the word vaporware means.

ai;dr
How the fuck can something that was announced less than a day ago be "vaporware".

You definitely do not need to pay to get acute injuries treated.
Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:31PM (#50283406)
So you think there is a viable business around technical Q&A even with GPT 6 Astra or whatever existing?

LLMs so obviously make any type of the business model of SO unviable.

Attributing the death to mismanagement really does just seem like motivated reasoning due to hating SO.

Computers were introduced to the workplace over the course of 50 years, not 4 years.
The difference between a calculator and an LLM is so obvious that its hard to believe this is a genuine question.

Do you honestly believe that LLMs are just the next incremental improvement on prior technology? It is such a fundamentally new paradigm.

Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:25PM (#50278597)
It isn't obvious that a fable is "better" than an opus either.
Re:Genie 4 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:40AM (#50272656)
It's obvious to anyone who knows what an ad is.
Re:Genie 4 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @08:39AM (#50272648)
Huh, I guess Avengers is the height of artistic expression in film then.

The market has literally nothing to say about what is worthwhile artistically. It just says what people are willing to buy.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:43PM (#50267948)
You can already go and generate a book to read or a song to listen to, no one does this, I don't know why you expect it to be different with video games. People want to consume art, they don't want to make it.

You can't just remove the societal/cultural aspects of art without neutering its emotional appeal and impact. Ripping all humanity of out movies/video games is not going to result in higher quality art.

Thank you for that article, it was a great laugh.

>Is there a easy way for average people to recognize these live super-deep fakes?

Almost all the AI gen videos I have seen have extremely weird camera movement when panning around, it usually just looks way too smooth/uncanny.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:19PM (#50267773)
Product placement is the most obvious form of "subversive" advertising you could have chosen.
Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:15PM (#50262415)
Wish fulfilment gets extremely boring, extremely fast.

Video games are interesting because of very specific constraints the developers impose on the player.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:07PM (#50262281)
> movies are going to become video games and video games are going to become something unimaginably better

This is the kind of detached from reality, devoid of humanity statement only a tech bro could come up with.

You are suffering from AI psychosis.
Re:Rewriting a Commercial Engine in Jai on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:45AM (#50231533)
I think you are confused maybe, Jai is made by a game developer, to make video games. Whatever exists in the language is there primarily to help video game developers make video games.

At no point did Jon Blow make the claim that Jai would be a good language to do web development with. It is a low level system language, if you are making something that requires low level systems language features then you will probably like Jai.

I'm not sure how that is relevant to every test being vibe-coded?
That site is just benchmarking how well an AI can implement things, it has nothing to do with how "fast" the language is.

>At a live performance, I see a bunch of people in front of me and maybe some distant figures onstage. I definitely can’t see the drummer doing drummer things or anyone’s fingers on a guitar.

Go to smaller venues then. I agree that if you go to a 30,000 person concert then you probably aren't going to see anything.

Re:What Is Gridifcation on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:58PM (#50199561)
>Why would losing the ability to play together cause the kick and bass to line up?

Real musicians playing together will result in the kick and bass not being perfectly aligned. If you can't play with another musician properly then two separate tracks will be perfectly aligned in post production. Is the argument being made.

Re:What Is Gridifcation on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:55PM (#50199528)
Also the complete death of the band. It's all just solo singer/songwriters which I think leads to lower artistic depth in general.
Re:What Is Gridifcation on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:37PM (#50199336)
It sounding like a mess is the entire reason it would be valuable. It represents an actual real thing that actually happened at this particular point in your life.

Like, why not just have ChatGPT redub over it at that point.

Re:On AI writing on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:14PM (#50173437)
It's okay to not like things. No need to be rude about it.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @07:34AM (#50164723)
There is a difference between going to the gym and lifting something heavy, and having your wife or mother or whatever ask you to lift something heavy for them.

Feeling like you are useful to others is a critical part of the human experience.

>a market still exists for handmade objects

Sure the top 0.1% of the profession can survive, that isn't great comfort to the 99.9% that lose their job though.
