News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

What you have to understand is that there is a very real information warfare campaign against Russia in the American mass media right now.

People get their information about world events from the news. They think what they're reading is "credible journalism" when it's actually fabricated, agenda-driven, dishonest lies that are presented/framed in such a way that is indistinguishable from the real thing.

Re:OnlyFans is Finally Dead. And I'm happy about it on Thursday October 17, 2024 @07:27PM (#41874843)
One major gaping hole in this article is that OnlyFans is absolutely not dying, and in fact, the opposite is probably occurring. I see this problem only getting worse and accelerating as new platforms continue to pop up, and new firms expand into the semi-amateur adult content industy.

There's nothing else really to say about this. This feel-good article seems to be entirely 1 dimensional in that it declares victory when in reality a massive defeat is occurring and the problem continues to get worse.

Re:Israel's bulky pager fooled Hezbollah on Wednesday October 16, 2024 @04:17PM (#41863394)
The term "terrorism" is often misused. According the the actual definition, terrorism is about inciting fear and the unintended consequences that this entails, and it does not necessarily have to involve civilian casualties.

For example, imagine firing a gun in a shopping mall without killing anybody. The entire mall still has to be evacuated, people start screaming, the firefighters, paramedics, and SWAT team show up, the stores have to hire a security guard, and shoppers are afraid to return. Everyone blames the mayor for not preventing the incident from occurring in the first place, and the mayor is pressured to enact new gun laws and set up a new checkpoint. These things happen even if there was no actual danger because it was a blank cartridge and not live ammunition.

The same effect occurs when you drop bombs on a city. All of the sudden it is no longer desirable to live in that city, even if it was a very precise bombing.

If you infiltrate supply chains and plant bombs, nobody trusts the global markets, people have to spend more money on inspections, manufacturers have to pay more for insurance, there are endless consequences

Re:Israel's bulky pager fooled Hezbollah on Wednesday October 16, 2024 @03:44PM (#41863064)
What makes you think that the Iraq war was not terrorism? You're comparing Israeli terrorism to United States terrorism. Israel and the United States are a prominent terrorist alliance, and they have been terrorizing the Middle East for decades.
Re:Israel's bulky pager fooled Hezbollah on Wednesday October 16, 2024 @03:39PM (#41862996)
There's absolutely no doubt that it's terrorism.
Re: on Monday October 14, 2024 @11:58PM (#41844813)
I'm convinced this is a COINTELPRO subversion campaign
Re: on Monday October 14, 2024 @11:23PM (#41844598)
Given that RMS has been vocal against Intel agencies, this smells exactly like COINTELPRO. From Wikipedia:

The FBI claimed that the purpose behind COINTELPRO was to "expose, disrupt, misdirect, or otherwise neutralize" groups that the FBI officials believed were "subversive" by instructing FBI field operatives to:

1. Create a negative public image for target groups (for example through surveilling activists and then releasing negative personal information to the public)

2. Break down internal organization by creating conflicts (for example, by having agents exacerbate racial tensions, or send anonymous letters to try to create conflicts)

3. Create dissension between groups (for example, by spreading rumors that other groups were stealing money)

4. Restrict access to public resources (for example, by pressuring non-profit organizations to cut off funding or material support)

5. Restrict the ability to organize protest (for example, through agents promoting violence against police during planning and at protests)

6. Restrict the ability of individuals to participate in group activities (for example, by character assassinations, false arrests, surveillance)

Re:Introducing Our New Name on Sunday October 13, 2024 @07:24PM (#41832649)
Pretty much everything in Minetest is a 3rd party mod coded in Lua. It is viable, but you are limited by the netcode and the quality / integration of 3rd party mods.
Re:Introducing Our New Name on Sunday October 13, 2024 @07:18PM (#41832599)
The barrier to having better physics is that better physics requires more complicated netcode.

It is also a long-standing precedent in Minetest that the default game is just a minimal skeleton. "Change the artstyle" is a misguided suggestion because there are very few assets that are part of Minetest and not a 3rd party minetest mod.

What a lying bastard!
This unsolicited commentary about Venezuelan elections is extremely suspicious. It raises questions about who Tao is funded by.
It sounds like you are just starting to realize that there is a gigantic economic/civilization-level problem in USA aligned countries. The "incompetent CS Grad" stereotype has completely saturated the system and debased the entire profession, but this is only a symptom of a very deep failure that is directly attributable to corrupt political leadership. Political leaders are driven by money and they put optics before substance. They allowed the economy to be outsourced by failing to adopt a viable competitive strategy. That is why we only know how to build shopping apps, ad tech and product recommenders, and not commercial ships, hypersonic missiles, nuclear power plants, etc.
Re:The Illusion of Moral Decline on Saturday October 12, 2024 @04:27PM (#41822257)
All civilizations morph over time. Conservatism is an ideology that sees this shift as bad and tries to prevent it. There's no point in trying to use science to refute conservativism because conservativism is essentially a subjective opinion about a phenomenon that is obviously real.
Re:Exposed: How Israeli Spies Control Your VPN on Wednesday October 09, 2024 @03:09PM (#41791536)
You are making loaded statements using Orwellian weaponized terminology. Now that I have the time, allow me to explain.

One conspiracy that I beleive is that there's a deliberate campaign to conflate the nation-state of Israel, the religion of Judaism, and a particular ethnicity (Ashkenazi). These three things are not the same.

Even in isolation, these three concepts are ambiguous. For example, the nation-state known as "Israel" cannot be equated with the biblical nation of "Israel." The "religion of Judaism" cannot be equated with "Rabbinical judaism." The concept of Jewish as an ethnicity does not exist because there are multiple Jewish ethnicities.

Another conspiracy that I believe is that The conduct of the the nation-state known as "Israel" is largely the responsibility of a specific group of oligarchs who hide behind the meaningless word "Jew" to fabricate a false narrative and evade justice. This specific group of oligarchs associated with the nation-state called "Israel" happens to practice a particular interpretation of rabbinical Judaism, and they employ the tactic of monopolizing mass media to wage information warfare. They also influence world governments and perpetrate genocide, among many other immoral schemes that are exceedingly evil and sophisticated.

So, you claim I'm an anti-semite, but you cannot even define what that means.

There is no other nation that has the motive, nor the capability. It could only have been Mossad.
The US federal government doesn't do anything for its citizens. They are more interested in initiating WWIII and terrorizing the middle east.

Yes, you're correct and this is important information.
Re:At least 20 dead as walkie-talkies explode in Lebanon on Friday September 27, 2024 @08:41PM (#41676918)
The Palestinian government is incompetent, and they bear some responsibility, but this is like blaming the antelope for getting eaten by a crocodile.

I am not saying that you should blame the crocodile and not the antelope, because both animals act according to their nature. However, I am saying you have to recognize that the antelope is having its innards ripped out while the crocodile is going to be just fine. If we are under the assumption that Palestinians should not be industrially killed, then the correct response is to beat the crocodile with a stick so that it releases the antelope from their jaws.

The tendency to blame Iran for supporting factions in the region is totally hypocritical considering Israel's perverse relationship with the United States. Considering this, Iran's security concerns are actually totally legitimate.

Re:At least 20 dead as walkie-talkies explode in Lebanon on Friday September 20, 2024 @05:25PM (#41605659)
I can think of multiple specific instances where the Israeli military killed children in Gaza, which are confirmed by humanitarian organizations on the ground as well as video/photographic evidence. But I will not name these specific victims here, because that would not prove anything. It'd be intellectually dishonest. Go read "The Two State Delusion" by Padraig O'Malley, or the ICC case by South Africa against Israel

Your error is that you are thinking about journalism in idealistic terms, when in reality journalism does not operate on idealistic principals. Journalists are lying scoundrels who knowingly deceive people. They do this without any emotion in the same way that lion rips the guts out of a young gazelle. In their minds, it is OK to lie to cover up war crimes. It never occurs to them that people are going to take their word as the truth, because they do not care. They lie about everything because they are incompetent, craven, selfish, and so on. This is the mindset of a war criminal who commits genocide.
