Re:Qatar to withdraw from OPEC as of January on Monday December 03, 2018 @04:34AM (#18587467)
Qatar won't be too concerned - if the LNG market stays stable ;)
Grow your own food! ;)
Canada and New Zealand, possibly.
No one might be entitled to that, but it's definitely helpful to the social health of an area if there is policy to ensure that the community stays somewhat stable.
With the current administration, maybe it won't just be optics, but also some knee-jerk executive orders that lead to much higher costs.
I wonder what he thinks "international" means.

The paragraph literally starts with "if"...
Re:Why German companies fail at digital innovation on Friday March 23, 2018 @08:03AM (#16657086)
30 days? I got 25 and something in the range of 25 to 28 is the most common. 30 is unusual, if you're not in a unionized job, older, negotiated hard for it etc.
Re:Iceland becomes first country to legalise equal pay on Wednesday January 03, 2018 @08:33AM (#16060793)
Great, more compliance.
The federal state is not supposed to meddle in education in Germany, policy is decided on Bundesländer-level. They frequently do anyways, but I don't think it's important enough to them to get involved in this case.
They bought up a bunch of academic journals. Added value is arguably negligible now, but some of the publications have the highest profile in their fields for years.
Re:Startup Cities Index: best cities for startup employees on Thursday August 10, 2017 @04:07AM (#14977454)
The relatively good affordability of SF compared to Berlin lets me doubt the methodology for that part of the score. Seoul and Hamburg are also not similarly affordable, but significantly more expensive than Berlin.
Most of the VCs and probably the majority of founders involved is above 30, I would think.
Re:Why I left Japan after 10 years on Wednesday July 19, 2017 @04:47AM (#14802819)
Do you think that's an outrageous idea?

I imagine lots of (young) Japanese people would look for better working conditions abroad, if they only had better English skills.

Re:Dev Bootcamp Shutting Down on Thursday July 13, 2017 @10:00AM (#14761272)
That space might still have less competition and therefore lower marketing costs.
Re:Dev Bootcamp Shutting Down on Thursday July 13, 2017 @09:47AM (#14761147)
Bootcamps are not for everyone.
Re:Dev Bootcamp Shutting Down on Thursday July 13, 2017 @09:45AM (#14761126)
I would say it's a general education bubble in the US that is still build on the claim that the system can work for everyone - as long as you just try hard enough.

Re:Startup CTO – Premature Scaling on Monday May 08, 2017 @10:00AM (#14291487)
Is it me, or is there not really much in this post which is not obvious, i.e. common sense?
They don't want politics to get active to interfere with their business.

Re:Scotland to seek second independence referendum on Monday March 13, 2017 @11:28AM (#13858612)
"My only concern for Scotland is that they wouldn't be able to gain (re-gain?) EU membership then would be left out on their own for many years."

Why? How?

Scotland would easily fulfill the requirements to join pretty much right away and the EU needs good news and would be able to sell that as something positive, so they have clear incentives to make it happen ASAP. Scotland also would be a net contributing country.

Re:Ask HN: How can I get investor intros in Berlin? on Monday February 13, 2017 @10:15AM (#13635807)
If you can avoid it, I would not raise this kind of amount in Berlin. Not worth the troubles.

Might be because Boeing only is seen as a tech company in the DC area, if at all. ;)

Michelbach is not even well-known, actually.
Hope there won't be any serious crashes early on, I suppose.
