Every comment in this thread is ideologically driven. It seems that if you don't want people commenting with political opinions, there shouldn't be political submissions.

As far as substance goes, how is my comment less substantive than the top comment (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15575704) on the thread? I said that it was foolish to consider protesting fascism to be worse than fascism, and that commenter said that protesters should be expelled. They're equally substantive comments that express opposing views on the issue in from the article.

>Oh dear, these left wing protestors taking a microphone sure is comparable to fascists actually killing people.

Give me a break.

I do want to sound like a Marxist, but for individuals it grants them an inordinate amount of power. If you want power that's a very desirable fact.
Germany has strong unions and a corporate structure known as codetermination in all large businesses that helps balance the power between capital and labor. Those two qualities, along with a monetary union that they dominate are the causes of their prosperity, not some phony value difference.

Yes he is. The S&L crisis and the global financial crisis are both largely the product of his ideas.

Actually, communism is a materialist tradition, meaning that most of Marx's works were critiques of idealist nonsense like Austrian Economics.

Why is CPAN not a viable replacement? It has always been perfectly viable for me.

Reminds me of Ext JS.
If you don't support neoliberal fantasies, your comments probably aren't welcome here.
Braum's just cut the size of their burgers and their shakes aren't as good anymore. I'm so disappointed in them.

Re:Review of “Adults in the Room” by Yanis Varoufakis on Wednesday May 03, 2017 @08:51AM (#14255192)
Varoufakis is a hero to the international working class. His most recent book before this one is also excellent.
Yanis Varoufakis is a hero.
Re:A Closer Look at North Korea’s Ullim Tablet on Monday May 01, 2017 @12:58AM (#14235658)
The government of North Korea is one of the two puppet dictatorships established in the Korean peninsula after World War II. It was the will of the Korean people to establish a socialist democracy, not a Juche dictatorship, but in 1946 the USSR and USA decided that what the Korean people wanted was the least important concern. The point is that it wasn't the ideology of the Korean people that mattered, it was the clash of 2 imperialists and its result.
Re:A Closer Look at North Korea’s Ullim Tablet on Monday May 01, 2017 @12:48AM (#14235633)
The US dropped more bombs on North Korea than we dropped on all of Europe and Japan during WWII. Proxy wars between superpowers never work out well for the actual people affected, and we should not be so forgetful of that.

I didn't ask how following around a concrete worker could be dangerous.
Re:CEO of ThinkPenguin, Inc arrested for filming police on Monday April 24, 2017 @12:13PM (#14185460)
How is following police unsafe for everyone involved?
My rule nowadays is to go with a web application unless you have a good reason not to. The difference between the work done for deployment is enormous, and it's enough to justify avoiding desktop applications 90% of the time.
Re:Why are The Economist’s writers anonymous? on Tuesday April 04, 2017 @10:32PM (#14039186)
I'd be interested in recommendations for an article that isn't rooted in neoclassical thought.
Re:Why are The Economist’s writers anonymous? on Sunday April 02, 2017 @01:27AM (#14015943)
The Economist is basic neoclassical nonsense dressed up as nuance. I wouldn't want my name on it either.
Not all states have at will employment.

>Is $2k or $3k crazy?

For most people here, $500 is crazy. People in rural America tend to be poor.

That number includes specialists and lab techs. It doesn't include hospital care (i.e. nurses).

You are just ignoring the profiteering done by the drug and insurance companies and the savings due to streamlining administration that a single payer system would bring.

Physician pay (last I checked) only makes up about 20%, including the costs of them practicing. They see about half of it in the end. There is even more spent on administration, which makes up about 25% of spending. Compare that 25% to the 9% in Canada and it becomes pretty obvious where you can save money.
Re:Request for Startups: News, Jobs, and Democracy on Tuesday January 31, 2017 @03:38PM (#13534971)
You have no idea if you think technology magically brings down prices. Tell that to the 100 million people living in/near poverty in the USA alone.

The "efficiency" increases in recent years have more often than not been various ways of cutting labor costs. It doesn't matter if things are cheaper in a nominal sense if your ability to earn a living is eroded.
