Try out MASTER BOOT RECORD and Amaranthe.

Re:Researchers discover security vulnerability in WhatsApp on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @06:30PM (#45986776)
I once participated in some work like this, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_telephone_prefi... was super helpful. I couldn't find a link to libphonegen that they were referencing.
IMO depends on your career. I did a lot of pentesting with Burp Suite so I was able to (forced to) pick it up.
I think the disconnect is that you assume that being able to do useful computation on some data implies that it must be possible to derive some insight into what the data is (side-channels or the like).

It's a fair assumption to start with. But the folks building FHE basically claim "nuh-uh", and I haven't seen anything to indicate they're wrong. Maybe some new Math grad will sort it out.

I too have been playing with the conjecture for fun. Your insight is interesting because of the appearance of 2^n, given that that always resolves to 1 for all n.

Do what I did when UDub pushed me out: finish at UOregon.

PMapper author here: I can't give PMapper the love it deserves, but I fully support the work done in Fennerr's fork at https://github.com/Fennerr/PMapper .

The author seems to expect someone to be patrolling imports with a gun rather than a strongly-worded "we're not liable if you hurt yourself" sign.
When I heard the demo, I assumed they licensed her voice until I read the press release.
I remember hearing about this sort of thing from a grad student a few years back. She pointed out that there were interesting privacy concerns with these microbiomes, given how we leave traces of it.
Lean has been a really exciting thing for me to watch (as an amateur observer), it's gonna go right up to the limits that Godel found.

This diagram was pretty critical in helping me "get it": https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/images/Poli...
Re:1 in 4 Gen Z-ers plan to become social media influencers on Friday September 02, 2022 @10:47AM (#32691474)
I remember planning to do something in video games as I was growing up. Ended up in a different but fairly related field. Maybe this is just a sign of the next generation of people that'll work in advertising/marketing/PR/media/fashion?

Flat out untrue, I know a friend who started in the field out of high school and was getting DA in places before he could even drink.

EDIT: My bad, misread your comment.

Re:Framework Laptop (2022) review: the repairability dream on Thursday July 21, 2022 @12:21PM (#32181242)
I ran into a similar issue. It took a Google search plus following a nicely documented guide to reset, and I was back at it. Way easier fix process than dealing with <PC Laptop Manufacturing Company> support.

I'm not a design or front-end type of mind, but seeing the terminals and visual design in TL inspired me to try working in CSS to achieve the same colors/glow.
A tqbf blog with a link to a blogger agreeing with a Matasano blog about not liking agents? I smell a reference loop!

The rapid bus lines had that reputation back when I lived there (particularly the one going down 3rd) and I rarely used it for that reason. My time on other bus lines plus the light rail were a lot more pleasant.
Re:Show HN: Can you lose at Wordle if you tried? on Tuesday May 31, 2022 @04:24PM (#31574472)
I love the twist on the game, as well as the implementation automagically calling out when I've been defeated. Well done!

The word that jumps out (to me) with what you describe is "Partition".
Re:What’s in Which Python on Monday May 23, 2022 @04:24PM (#31484389)
For my Python things, I aimed to be compatible with the oldest supported Python for people on older OS's or who aren't constantly updating their Python installations. That way my stuff was still accessible to them.
Good to see the callout on SafeCurves needing some maintenance.
Re:Map of Reddit on Thursday May 12, 2022 @06:39PM (#31360948)
My methodology for discovery/linking subreddits when I did a big crawl was to look at the subreddit description and find links to other subreddits. I think that was less prone to the issues that other commenters are reporting.
About 40 hours into my save, I realized I could use the "foundation" blocks as a way to organize the factory since everything snaps to a grid when you place stuff on top of it. There's also a "hoverpack" item in late-game + some folks use fly-mods. I haven't gotten that far, so I end up using lookout towers + foundations to get things neatly arranged.
I tend towards a --dry-run flag for creative actions and --confirm for destructive actions. Probably sightly annoying that the commands end up seemingly different, but it sure beats accidentally nuking something important.
