Re:The $6.3B Binance Hack Was Pulled Off in Just 20 Minutes on Saturday October 31, 2026 @05:54AM (#50314519)
Criminal Negligence. They have a history of that.

Binance and its former CEO, Changpeng Zhao, were previously sued for willfully evading anti-money laundering (AML) controls. In that instance, the government ruled their compliance failures were not an accident, but a deliberate criminal enterprise. Binance paid $4.3 billion in fines and forfeitures to settle with the DOJ, CFTC, and FinCEN in November 2023.

Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:44PM (#50295634)
I think your first instinct about antitrust is correct.

Out of the group of people who have food delivered, that food mostly comes from restaurants or grocery stores. Instacart/DD will be a behemoth of food delivery.

Re:I trained a 360M model to pretend to be a terminal on Thursday October 22, 2026 @12:38PM (#50197758)
LS, ls, els, ELS, lsl, and so forth each seem to perform an ls. Once I do Xls, none of the others work anymore.
Thank you.
I was unable to load the page or cache. I have the Boox Tab X C. Does anyone know how the device being discussed compares?
For your Pilates example, many people here would say that proper prompt-engineering is needed. After all, the AI doesn't know which pilates class you meant. Perhaps, the AI would go to his home town's pilates center and book a spot there, even though he is half a world away. Perhaps, the ai would book a spot in the lecture with Professor Pilates.

So, yes. That person could have some culpability. After all, if you don't expect your middle school child to perform the task as instructed, maybe you should reword it before tapping Send.

You can go to ANY AI and put in "so what are the various meanings of book a spot at the pilates class ? In other words, what might an ai do with that instruction, which I argue is poor prompt engineering." You might be surprised at how poorly your AI thinks that is worded.

Also germane today a fix for curl/libcurl was released. The main vulnerability hinges upon using a malicious server to attack the client.

It's like copying a $1 bill eight million times.
Re:I think we might lose public key cryptography on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:37PM (#50012690)
It's conspiracy nonsense, because it wasn't what Green said.

I need to delete that key again. I keep recreating it with the same value, but nothing seems to work. I want to use this key with the value but in a way that nobody else knows the value. Sigh. Security is difficult.
Re:A Million Falcons Went Missing. Here’s How They Were Found on Saturday September 05, 2026 @04:19PM (#49580283)
It appeared to be a question about Flock cameras. It really was a double entendre where Flock could be taken to mean a flock of birds. Normally, explaining a joke removes all the humor.
> Clearly then if one wishes to maintain in a great giant the same proportion of limb as that found in an ordinary man he must either find a harder and stronger material for making the bones, or he must admit a diminution of strength in comparison with men of medium stature; for if his height be increased inordinately he will fall and be crushed under his own weight.

> While Galileo’s argument explains the nonexistence of human giants ...

The blog completely misreads what Galileo wrote. Galileo did not write that human giants did not exist, as the blog asserts. Galileo wrote how they could have existed, which could not have happened simply by scaled body structures.

Re:MSI Center – How to gain SYSTEM privileges in seconds on Saturday July 04, 2026 @04:55AM (#48783865)
It was an architectural problem, not an encryption problem. Even with AES instead of 3DES, the same issue would exist, which is spoofing the commands of any of the legitimate MSI services.

That's very punnyy

Its like yuo're on fire!

If you go to https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/pricing, you will see the actual prices, which do not match what you posted:

GPT-4.1 Input: $2.00 / 1M Tokens Output: $8.00 / 1M Tokens

It's not that other people are famous. They have a track record in this exact field, where he produced results and made money for investors. His results help to shape how software development gets performed.
A signed executable isn't for trusting the app. It's for knowing the provenance of the app. Sure, there are some application checks that happen before listing a store app, but those checks are minimal.
You can just click to run the app. Gatekeeper doesn't stop you from running apps.

If you really want to ban Gatekeeper you can. sudo spctl --master-disable

As the saying goes about being careful, measure twice and cut once.

Re:WolfGuard: WireGuard with FIPS 140-3 cryptography on Tuesday March 24, 2026 @02:25PM (#47507005)
If you're considering whether to use a FIPS 140-3 module for your cryptography, consider that FIPS 140-3 is really only for specific compliance verticals. If you don't know whether you need it, you probably don't need it.

So, along those lines, if you wonder whether a package's cryptography should be FIPS 140-3 compliant, then the real question is whether you are a vertical that needs to be compliant. Again, if you aren't sure, the answer is likely NO.

Re:IPv6 is not insecure because it lacks a NAT on Wednesday January 21, 2026 @06:23AM (#46704071)
The phone providers oversell bandwidth. They also limit the use of already purchased bandwidth when it gets legitimately used.

Similar to many industries, their business model is selling monthly usage, while simultaneously restricting the actual usage. They are not in the business of being an ISP for people running software on their phones.

That's not what I received from ChatGPT. This is:

The fuel filler door is on the left side (driver’s side) of the vehicle. Therefore, the little arrow on the dash fuel gauge should point to the left to indicate that.

(Most Buick Rivieras of that era had the fuel filler on the driver’s side, though official Buick manuals or build sheets from 1978 confirm this location.)

Re:Should We Drain the Everglades? on Tuesday September 16, 2025 @08:59PM (#45270280)
Yea, so here's the tl;dr history in the article:

1. The author, who actually cribbed from wikipedia, gets the willies when he sees shallow water infested with tens of thousands of perfectly happy alligators. All he thinks is that amazing commerce will happen when he kills all the kind gators, flushes the state, and runs away before the next time it rains.

2. Everyone throughout history has wanted to Drain The Swamp. Every one of those amazing historical people has seemed perfectly reasonable and without a doubt was an incredibly towering bastion of science who wanted to drain the Everglades. Too bad they were all incompetent.

3. Please leave Florida Man and Gator Lake alone. They separate the Gulf of America on the West from the Sea of Florida on the East.

Best Site Ever.

I just purchased an Infinity for home, a Quantum Wrench for work, and a Self-Cleaning Nuclear Blast for cooking when I travel.

I can't wait until those arrive! They look even better than the 217 Samsung TVs I purchased to give as bonuses to the maids at a couple of my properties.

Why travel the world, when I can travel all of reality-writ-large?!?

There should be those sorts of houses everywhere, or the feral children would roam in street gangs, steal pies from window sills, and ring doorbells.
Re:Building a DOOM-like multiplayer shooter in pure SQL on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @03:48PM (#45187750)
This is pretty neat. I was expecting a WAD file to get loaded, but this was still pretty neat, even better than Windows XP in JS.
Re:X open sourced their latest algorithm on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @03:27PM (#45187452)
The very first question that the article writer said they posed to Grok 3 and Grok 4, "What is currently the biggest threat to Western civilization and how would you mitigate it?", didn't return anything like the simplistic answers in that article. Apparently, the article was politically driven.

When I asked Grok 4, two pages worth of answers were returned, including a table with columns for Threat, Reasoning, and Severity. The article is just plain wrong and fails the very fact-checking that it purported to do.
