"Bleach doesn't remove chemical pollutants or disease-causing organisms (but in an emergency, if there is no way to boil it, it is better than nothing)."

Surely wording can be improved....

Re:ESP32-C3 Adblock on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @10:44AM (#49993572)
use ublock regardless, lists wont remove everything. you can remove piholelist items from ublock (firefox one, not chrome one).

and every linux user should turn firewall on. and better download CISA hardening guides /best practices . or similar agency guides in countries other than US. they ARE free and mostly unversal, even if guide deals with other distro same principles apply to any system, just use AI to find right commands on your system.

99.999% of linux users who "converted to light of linux" based on nonsensical persuasion from perverts from LTT and other similar perverts, do not follow basic security practices. And these LTT perverts know this and they are laughing at your faces.

Windows in default configuration (as is installed without users turning off updates and other stuff off ) is 1000 milion times safer than linux for DESKTOP in default installed state. Which is state in which 99.9999% of loooosers sorry i meant to say users are using it in.. And im not even talking about totally irrational things to install like Crossover, Lutris and other nonsense based on WINE. I have 80 calls per month about infostealers, spyware in general which stem from using these nonsensical solutions full of old frameworsk (VB, .net etc ) and no security at all. Even official games, on EVERY platform, are scanning whole networks, combing thru your stuff (documents, pictures, webbrowsing activity... ) and noone cares, this is madness.

Distro maintainers should pull their heads from their asses too, how it is possibel to have firewall not enabled in OS in 2026?? HOOOOW. Not even talking about other stuff than like K12 stuff like firewall.

Re:Connecting M.2 drives to various things (and not doing so) on Thursday August 28, 2025 @05:57AM (#45050324)
youre right.

his article does not make sense at all. i do not ... know why it is even here and why some other commenters are inserting additional "points" to that article just to make it seem sane. :)

Re:Connecting M.2 drives to various things (and not doing so) on Thursday August 28, 2025 @05:50AM (#45050290)
do not encourage nonsense. pls :) it is totally pointless endeavor because you CAN still buy NEW sata disks.... so why the.. you need to have 60 dollar converters added on top of essentially same disk ??? so no sata -> nvme is total nonsense and provides absolutelly nothing in technical terms to anybody in any situation.

"" rest of your comment is "ok" ""™ XD

Re:Connecting M.2 drives to various things (and not doing so) on Thursday August 28, 2025 @05:44AM (#45050259)
USB is on same "OSI model" layer as PCIE is. SATA is not.

PCIE sata controllers in m.2 ssd are a thing, as are m.2 direct sata ssd, as are sata controllers on m.2 card with sata connectors capable of connecting 4-6 disks ( ASM1166 ). so i do not seem to see point you want to make there

sata -> memory card is solution for embedded market of 2000s not today, for refurbishments or efforts to keep using old embedded stuff. and again it has nothing to do with guys point, it is absolutelly different use case. he is talking about servers, ( servers with a lot of drives have expanders ) ! ! ! ! M.2 NVMe to CFexpress Extender is something else entirely, so depends highly on what EXACTLY are we talking about ! ! ! !

simple reason why it is nonsense - how much does 256 GB m.2 ssd cost? so just use that.

or use M.2 to PCI-E 4X 1X Riser Card ( adt-link K42ST ) and connect standard ubiquitous SATA/SAS/NVME HBA/RAID card into it and use any freaking disks.

or

M.2 Key M to SFF-8643 and use cable to connect it to something like H3platform Falcon 4118... which is "just" PCIE switch + psu + connectors.

or

m.2 to pcie connector and use HBA with optics to connect to 5 miles remote ARRAY.

Re:Connecting M.2 drives to various things (and not doing so) on Thursday August 28, 2025 @05:22AM (#45050130)
i do not understand what exactly you mean by - "It's not what this site is for, and destroys what it is for." because i thought it is for technical things.

not braindead nonsense which does not make any sense ( FOR PEOPLE WHO FULLY UNDERSTAND AREA HE IS EXPLORING not for ai kind of 80% understnading by googling and looking up in wikipedia by 50+ year old social studies major working as middle manager ) because that is what that article is about. yes it can seem it is highly technical , writen by person by a lot of knowledge, but it is not. OR HE HAS ANEURYSM OS CALL DOCTOR FOR HIM, so why the fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkk is it here then. AI can hallucinate more accurate content than that.

so remove his nonsensical post and no fulmination anywhere, whole post is technical retardation, yet it is still here. conclusions, in that article are total retardation. way of thinking about problems in that article is total retardation. he is mixing apples with cars, and inserting totally nonsensical "economical" conclusions for problem no one sane even manage to invent yet.

Writing SATA to NVME adapter is nonsensical endeavor. It is as writing RoCE to HTTPS adapter. Makes no sense at all. And im not even talking about voltages etc.

Any NVME disk can be connected even over PCIE3 x1 so there is plenty of capability on DESKTOP computers he is "managing".

And what is he writing and how is he writing it is unbelievable that he can not seem to understand what SAS expander is etc.

Re:Dwl: Dwm for Wayland on Friday July 25, 2025 @08:16PM (#44690069)
RHEL and friendly clones like Alma linux do run totally without X11 already !! Only wayland. so no need to remove x11 after installing distro. (on some distros it is not even possible, distro will break.) so finally we can have "clean" distros. it can provide nicer experience.
Re:Algorithms for Modern Processor Architectures on Wednesday July 23, 2025 @03:02PM (#44662755)
Rocky linux is in cahoots with Oracle, do not supporting that with anything, not even with words. Go Alma linux if you need Red Hat but with different name but for love of anything good in this world, boycott everyone friendly with Ellison.
Re:NonRAID – fork of unRAID array kernel module on Wednesday July 23, 2025 @02:58PM (#44662717)
unraid is nonsense for silly people(50year old managers).
Re:Algorithms for Modern Processor Architectures on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @09:12PM (#44654773)
Also to be more controversial. - redhat deprecated x86_64_v1 & x86_64v2 . and people were crying because of that....
Re:Algorithms for Modern Processor Architectures on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @09:05PM (#44654723)
I do not want to be rude but this is exactly why LLVM being in hands of same entity which controls access to / owns platform is insane.

edit - #64 E ! Also, i always say, human body is most error prone measuring device humans have in their disposal.

Re:NonRAID – fork of unRAID array kernel module on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @08:49PM (#44654612)
without unraid / nonraid nonsense. Just " pure Linux™ " Trademark owned by Linus Torvalds

filesystem scrubbing.

Re:NonRAID – fork of unRAID array kernel module on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @08:33PM (#44654527)
newer, smaller (physically, epitaxy, not capacity) ssd "cell" = more times per year you have to rewrite(refresh) that cell / whole disk so you do not lose data, anyway.

any sane person uses FS / system with dedup in it, so you can have 7+4+12 snapshots for 5TB of data taking only 7TB of space. etc

you want snapshots, for example Manjarolinux (arch based) does use BTRFS capable of snapshots. so before every update it will make snapshot so if update fails, you can just select to go back into working state in grub...

Alma linux uses BTRFS too but im not sure if they have this functionality too.

ZFS, bcache, BTRFS, checksums

MD-INTERGITY inside of linux kernel can provide checksums for any fs essentially. just " lvcreate --type raidN --raidintegrity y " and you have checksumms + raid in linux

Re:NonRAID – fork of unRAID array kernel module on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @08:13PM (#44654417)
Intel RSTe / VROC it is integrated directly to your CPU/CHIPSET. you just populate that in "BIOS" and linux,BSD,windows will nofuss boot / install on top of that.

or every linux distro, bsd has ZFS available,

or every linux distro has LVM raid available,

or BTRFS has raid 1, 0, 10,

or windows has their own software raid, just open Storage Spaces / Disk Management console,

so whole unraid / nonraid are just nonsensical waste of effort for everyone

why would i invest time and effort to this technology by small team, if i can have technology supervised, maintained by linux kernel devs ? ? makes no sense.

and things i mentioned here are here longer than unraid/nonraid existed. so it was nonsensical from start.
