News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Off topic, but you really think there arnt automatic turrets, seems very feasible today, especially in a situation like a sewer where you really dont have to worry about shooting the wrong (moving) thing.
I'll say that wasn't my experience, it was just about trying to verify my position, but maybe they decided to look into other stuff, they certainly didnt tell me or take my phone.
Doesn't some other countries already do this? I was asked about my LinkedIn for a work visa in Canada.
Re:Tesla Bonds Are in Free Fall on Wednesday March 28, 2018 @05:27PM (#16702117)
Can you restate that? I'm not sure what you're saying tbh. You want intraday news on bonds or some other security?
Small correction, but generally someone like that exercises their options and sells them for profit, keeping their shares that they've had since whenever. In this case, he exercised the options, sold those shares, and then lowered the amount of shares he had beyond that to the absolute minimum (250k).
Also from the first link:

Popular Physical Delivery futures contracts include (but are not limited to) CME Currencies (Euro, JPY, & GPB), CBOT Treasuries (2 yr, 5yr, 10 yr, & 30 yr), NYMEX Energies (Crude Oil, Natural Gas, RBOB Gasoline, & Heating Oil), CME Live Cattle, CBOT Grains (Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, Soybean Meal, Soybean Oil, Rice, and Oats), COMEX Metals (Gold, Silver, & Copper), and ICE Softs (Sugar, Cotton, Cocoa, Coffee and OJ).

There are plenty of physical delivery futures still in existence.

Re:Incredible shrinking airline seat on Saturday July 29, 2017 @03:16PM (#14882606)
It also makes it hard for people like me who are far above the average height to even fit in a seat. If I'm forced to travel for work, I have to either be very uncomfortable or pay out of my pocket because the company doesn't want to pay for first class. My knees dig into that little metal rod the seat back pouches have or they go into the armrest in front of me, it's absurd how small cabins are now.
Re:Incredible shrinking airline seat on Saturday July 29, 2017 @03:11PM (#14882584)
Wow, not the same thing at all as the airline disclosing it up front. I should not have to go looking at third party sites for information like that.
Not to speak to the other coins, but isn't BTC at all time highs?
Re:Winn-Dixie ordered to update website for the blind on Sunday June 18, 2017 @01:02AM (#14579051)
It worked once in medievalish Italy (not sure how you classify the period going from ~0-1800 A.D.). All houses had to be a certain color, for instance. I think it looked kinda cool, but obviously choice is often considered the greatest of all goods.
He was like essential hip college freshman reading, which often comes with being hated for being popular, weird, abstract, etc. I havn't actually read the book, but I've certainly heard about it.
That's quite disheartening.
Which sites did you find it on and which did you delete it from?
Re:Colonizing the galaxy would be good on Friday April 14, 2017 @09:08PM (#14118751)
Can you elaborate? What is humanity's idea of happiness, and who/what are we potentially enforcing it on?
I agree with your response, but you could probably assume someone would make it 2 weeks, couldn't you? Aren't there laws about hiring and having to pay for the first 2 weeks or something, or am I just making that up?
Re:Facebook Ordered to Pay $500M in Oculus Lawsuit on Wednesday February 01, 2017 @06:10PM (#13546374)
That seems like a lot, I didn't think he was worth that much, maybe I'm undervaluing his net worth. Is there a value for that anywhere?
Re:Turning CO2 to Stone on Sunday January 22, 2017 @06:20PM (#13458299)
I do think it's an important idea that fossil fuels should be seen as a stepping stone. They're not useful forever, but using them for too long is bad for all of us, and not being able to use them without a comparable alternative is an equally awful situation.
Re:Why we should all have a basic income on Sunday January 22, 2017 @06:04PM (#13458200)
I just simply dont agree. I'd be perfectly happy to do what I pleased everyday if I could. I'm not a huge fan of having to meet deadlines or any of the many little tasks that come with having to work. I think it's truly strange that people are afraid of not having work because it means they will be listless.
Re:Gene Cernan has died on Monday January 16, 2017 @07:32PM (#13414274)
I have no clue how the money for space exploration is allocated, but they could possibly put that money into the things the GP (did I use that right) said. I think a better use would be to perhaps continue funding small explorations as we've done, but put the brakes on something like actually colonizing another planet, moon, satellite, etc. I agree that we have plenty to deal with here.
Re:Technical report on DNC hack [pdf] on Thursday December 29, 2016 @05:32PM (#13280774)
He really didn't say that at all, do you not believe in transparency of the government?
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @04:26PM (#12631026)
Yea after mulling it over, I guess I can agree with that. I admit it seems like it would be very difficult to get enough people to commit fraud when it was just identification making the difference. Still wouldn't want to be the victim of it, though.
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @04:09PM (#12630897)
On the one hand, I can agree with you. I don't see someone managing to fake 1000s of votes by walking in without identification. That would require a lot of manpower, I imagine. On the other, I think you or I would still be pretty annoyed if someone had walked in and voted for us.
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @04:04PM (#12630858)
What?
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @03:43PM (#12630666)
Well, I don't think the fact that it's difficult to do implies we should just give up on it.
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @03:41PM (#12630644)
Pretty rare? Ok, it's pretty rare that people try my door handle at night, but I'm still not going to leave it unlocked. I think voting is a pretty serious issue, if we're meant to take to it seriously.
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @03:39PM (#12630638)
Not impossible? In today's world finding your full name and address is incredibly easy. Yes, finding which precinct you vote in isn't as easy, but I don't understand why the system is such that having a government issued I.D. is so difficult to obtain. If that's really stopping people from voting, then there's something wrong with our DMVs, etc.
Re:Sam Altman’s Manifest Destiny on Monday October 03, 2016 @02:00PM (#12629750)
How do you get from reducing voter fraud to it being a bad thing for elections. If the problem is that some basic form of government I.D. is hard to come by then fix that, not make it so anyone can walk in and vote. The other stuff about making polling places close early and stuff, I agree, is riduculous, but I don't see how requiring proper identification is a bad thing.
Re:Airlines Embrace Pollution Plan That Could Cost Them $24B on Monday September 26, 2016 @02:00PM (#12584059)
Why would you bother making the system more complicated. If it's determined that use of fuel creates emission problems, then just tax it at the start and don't try to worry about every industry to come.
Re:Show HN: Lemonade – the world's first P2P insurance company on Thursday September 22, 2016 @09:05PM (#12561609)
I had no idea... I thought it was sarcasm.
Re:Show HN: Lemonade – the world's first P2P insurance company on Thursday September 22, 2016 @12:45AM (#12554424)
A task rabbit? Is that what you call a subordinate at your office? Am I totally missing this?
