Most criminals have a specific type of cleverness, but not intelligence. If they were smart people, they wouldn't do the crimes in the first place.

I dealt with a low-tech breach at one of the hospitals I worked for. The criminal worked in HIM, and used paper and pencil to note specific info about specific types of patients. Since they worked in HIM, it was expected for them to view many medical records in a day and no app detects paper/pencil, so quite clever so far.

Ultimately, they used this info to file false tax returns to steal the refunds.

The problem? They filed 881 false tax returns annnnnnd used the same address for all of them. DOH.

They were busted/arrested and off to jail they went.

Clever, right until the end, then abysmally stupid.

What? Tech Billionaire and known liar failed at a task after being given a vast sum of money? No way..

The man is a clown. A red nose wearing, floppy shoes owning, clown.

I am sick to death of people farming out thinking to a bot that doesn't think at all.

smh.

Re:Alibaba Cloud claims to reduce Nvidia GPU use by 82% on Monday October 20, 2025 @10:31AM (#45644337)
I believe this is an Pollyanna take on AI. There is nothing about humans that tells us humans will bring AI to fruition for the other humans and a mountain of evidence showing how it will be used to abuse humans instead....for profits/power/whatever horse shit the masters of the universe have decided upon.
What youre likely seeing is the inevitable endpoint for corporate growth.

Money over all. Safety should never impact profits, quality control is a cost not a benefit, poor design due to rushing something out the door, and lowest bidder for everything.

Garbage or not, I disagree with removing an entire pie slice from discussions because reasons.
Would it surprise you to learn that they also sell data to anyone with a handful of nickels?
Re:OpenAI Needs $400B In The Next 12 Months on Friday October 17, 2025 @02:40PM (#45620350)
>Why can't OpenAI keep projecting/promising massive data centre growth year after year, fail to deliver, and keep making Number Go Up?

Because eventually, Nvidia will run out of money, so the incestuous loop between Nvidia funding AI entities, who then use those funds to buy Nvidia chips, artificially propping up Nvidia's stock price, will eventually end and poof.

Competing forces are the market's insatiable need for growth every quarter, and other countries also chasing AIs and will not slow down if other countries, like the US, do slow down.

However, it's a very abbreviated way of stating, "soon you will not even be given this choice, because we make entirely too much money selling your data/info and we kinda bribe law enforcement by granting them any and all video, with a simple request"
Agreed. Ring has a proven track record of giving up whatever video law enforcement wants, regardless of your choice or privacy laws.

If it was free, I could almost understand. Nothing is free, and if it cost the customer nothing, then the customer is the product. However, people paid for Ring gear and as a thanks have their privacy violated with no notice, no info and no choice.

I just installed mine (last weekend) and use a Unifi stack at home.

100% recommended alternative.

A. This leaves a semi-permanent hazard in orbit for all other satellites. (Semi, because it can be cleaned up, but it's difficult, expensive and no laws require the idiots that do this to clean it up)

B. The Russians already have this tech and have "practiced" with it a few times, so have already added untold hazards in orbit.

C. The people that cause these problems, ignore the hazards left behind and let others simply die.

This is a horrific idea and not new. Let's not do more of it.

I have personal experience with Dang on this topic, so while I don't doubt you, I also have a point here.
Re:Talent on Thursday October 16, 2025 @03:50PM (#45609905)
>Sometimes I wonder if interest influences not just my motivation, but my capacity for learning and talent.

It does. Anything you have an interest in, you will spend more time thinking about in general, be more focused while learning the relevant bits, and will breed a willingness to learn something related, but not specific to what you need.

I'm senior technical in my dept and have had a lifelong interest in tech, how it works, why it works, etc. and in my case, my interest definitely influenced my ability to handle work, broad skillset, practical application and more.

YMMV, but imo, your statement is true.

Re:Why more SaaS companies are hiring chief trust officers on Thursday October 16, 2025 @02:09PM (#45608743)
Ironic, considering the last thing anyone should ever trust is a corporation who's sole goal is extracting profits at all costs.

This position is meant to shovel shit faster than the customers can figure it out.

Progress!

Re:Tor browser removing various Firefox AI features on Thursday October 16, 2025 @11:22AM (#45606520)
Agereed. Sadly, we're on the wrong planet, my friend. AI will be shoved into every available orifice and more. It's a great tool for "them" to gather even more info on you to sell to anyone with a handful of nickels.

The last thing any of these masters of the universe will do is leverage AI to make everyone's life better.

Re:Acrobat is intrusive, slow and non-customizable on Thursday October 16, 2025 @08:38AM (#45604604)
This works for about 95% of the documents.

For the rest you need a purpose built reader. Often Sumatra or other open source readers will work with the more complex functions in PDFs (signing, bill processing, etc).

I have Acrobat installed on my corp laptop, but I use Sumatra rather than Acrobat, because I like my reader to simply be a reader instead of a 13GB bloated piece of garbage. I'm also a big fan of my reader not crashing at the slightest breeze.

Re:Acrobat is intrusive, slow and non-customizable on Thursday October 16, 2025 @08:36AM (#45604589)
This is a lot like Microsoft having Outlook for multiple decades and it's somehow still the very worst email client.

Half my org still uses Outlook classic and even it's laughably unstable.

Only the one? Found the optimist.. ;)
Your statement: > Homosexuality and sodomy They do affect the future population count and this will affect the pension of everyone. They also will result in persons not being born. You can say that this is way less of importance then the right to do whatever you want, but it is not without effect to others. ===============================================================================

I assumed you were concerned with all social programs and not just your personal pension, hence the statement. Fixing pensions, while all other social safety net programs get gutted is not the way. Basic breeding by heterosexuals isn't the panacea you seem to believe it is, imo.

The real issue with US population growth is the insane world we live in. It's not "the gays failing to procreate". That's a laughable statement.

WTF would want to bring children into the world when literal criminals, rapists and alcoholics are running things, racism is on the rise and cheered, laws are optional for specific groups of people while abused for everyone else, SCOTUS is a complete parody of a court, Congress is run by wholly unserious people, prices of everything are rocketing up not because of genuine supply chain issues, or similar, but because of plain, old greed and much, much, much more.

Let's not forget that AI is being developed at a record pace to replace jobs, while shafting the working class, instead of being used to uplift everyone.

"The gays" were never the problem and never will be for population growth.

You state this like there aren't numerous other ways to fund these programs already.

We can start with actually taxing people with multiple piles of Scrooge McDuck money, as opposed to the current approach of cutting social programs that benefit millions of citizens to provide even MORE tax breaks for these "people".

Are you even serious with this?

How unexpected.

131% this. I'm still aghast when someone holds up Republican words as a counter to a point, as if their words had any meaning beyond the instant they said them.
