I just assumed the labido waned. After experiencing trauma, both myself and partner haven't really been into that. Add the pandemic, and it's a downer. I now have a tumour in the nethers, and that's kind of killed all opportunity. Appreciate it while you have it.
But one thing that annoys me is the thin line between perversion and respectability. And it swings drastically all over the place.
It's normal for people to want sex, fantasize etc. And quite healthy. But express that in the wrong company and you can be castigated.
As for films I barely ever see any kind of believable relationship. Better call Saul and breaking bad did well. And there are few dramas that make the right nods.
Single people make the effort, those in long term relationships not so much. I remember my partner saying something along the lines of, will you still love me when I am old and fat? I hope so. Then I got old and lost my teeth and partner looks at me and sighs. We still love each other.
It's merely an observation. Like comparing TV news with radio. A 30min show seems to carry the same info as five minutes of audio.
Something I noticed when just reading a paragraph of light fiction. Weirdly a Poirot book. TV is incredibly lightweight. Not that I don't enjoy some visualisations/realisations.
I had completely given up on TV but did like the ride of Better Call Saul. Which has restored my faith in the medium.
So that's not to say TV can't be fun or info rich, it's just by and large complete vacuous dross. To the point I could believe it's there to keep people stupid.
Might cork line the walls behind the books.
I love books but my partner turns the TV on every night of the week.
I get about 30x the value in 1/2 paragraph of fiction than TV.
And non-fiction can be soo much more info dense than hours faffing about on the web.
That said a good summary explainer on YouTube can straddle mediums.
Oh Man, we moved ten years back and still don't have all our books out.
I just want to go floor to ceiling with them on party walls in part to use as sound insulation.
Agree a load of old crap that could have been achieved in the most part with a better implementation of html frames. Sames sucky problems like publishing barriers, Devs holding sites to ransom. Etc. Etc.
A good open source app for a shop, a church, a school would be a better focus of a million monkeys on MacBooks.
I remember people touting this distro. Thanks for the memory.
It's great but for the interaction problem. And mixed contexts.
The automated twitter accounts feel like a fire and forget. And you probably want to eavesdrop the conversation.
This could be AI territory, who's mentioning this? Web mention is a flawed system, but reaches for the right target.
I see people drifting back to Twitter from Mastodon as they crave previous circle interaction. They don't like missing conversation, and comment systems per blog can be sucky.
I dicked about with jellyfin server and an old android phone connected to a stereo for remote play. Almost good, but WiFi and battery save kicked in and play was spurious. Transcoded library to opus, shoved on the memory card. Turned on airplane mode. Jobs a goodun.
I have wasted so much money on music I barely bother with. Lots of stuff is a one play only for me these days and streaming suits that for experimentation. I do pay for ad-hoc streaming but don't get value out of it (time), nevermind the artists. And yet it's still better value than what I used to pay for records.
It's a dumpster fire but for recommended mixes and the odd weird lifted from video rarity.
Will check finanmp, jellyfin is nice that it offers http. The web app is buggy. Kind of 90 percent there. Then I read they are doing a rewrite.
I subscribe to the odd free service. Fallback to my cd/ripped collection that is large. But I am totally bored with it.
Moved to radio mixes via SoundCloud and mixcloud and advert free stations. Which is pretty satisfying but for bookmarking, that requires interruption.
Have no idea of formats, but been on a track to nothing with crappy systems. And concluded that it's just easier to roll your own.
Transfer all your flacs to opus, with playlists, upload and just use http. Build a web front end using GPT in 10 minutes.
People do tend to hang out in particular haunts. Like specific forums. Probably once they have established some social connections/invested time.
I haven't got WhatsApp, and the thought of it brings me out in hives. Would be difficult to step back from the web. SMS once had a huge draw, and that was an incredible time sink with less immediacy.
I am from the era where you had to pay a premium for a shallow web. And it was just as addictive for me. I would line the browser up, connect to the Internet, browse fast, and frantically save. Then read later: for hours. Not to mention usenet. The best thing about that was that at least it made me ruminate and refine a response that I would fire and publish the following morning and retrieve a bulk load of messages in as short a time as possible.
I love heroin, but like the Internet it's slightly moreish.
When we was kids we would stay in and smoke grass. Never did us any 'arm.
What hobby products will you find Trichloroethylene in/will be exposed to?
No prompts?
Sorry do I have to launch the browser with a specific flag?
Worried a site can just swamp a local filesystem.
Oh God I am still pretty fat fingered on a phone. But I do like the 'tactile' simplicity. I still think touchscreen UI / OS is in its infancy, and could be better. But am amazed in some ways that it's as good as it is.
I think I have some cognition issues, and can only read eink and off of crisp OLED. Love touch screens, pointers etc. But don't much like Apple iOS style.
Colours were pretty crap on CRTs. And greys were better on the eyes than dazzling whites. Even Netscape defaulted to grey.
I took fvwm and a very simple blue bar, trim and simple window buttons. And weirdly now it looks pretty modern and fresh.
Anyway there's always the bizarre windows fisherprice theme, and over used chrome gradients there to help you bring up some bile.
Glad we went the Roku route. It performs better than my Chromecast ultra too.
I just wanted to get Apple music going, and had to jump through hoops. In the end I added an iCloud account to the macmini, and now whenever I go to use Apple music/access my apple account on another device, I have some ridiculous process of having to authenticate via the Mac mini. I also have a phone number registered, but it appears to count for nowt.
Big snow dome over the entire property I reckon.
I am partially surprised that the reading portal is the same as the authoring one.
It would feel better if we had one great feed reader, and an authoring pumping station.
The blurred lines makes it more difficult to comprehend as much.
Who moderates offshore content?
I just can't get on with gmaps, I stumble with the UI every time.
I got stuck in a which domain to buy flip-flop recently.
.info feels like the most benign above.
But when I read them out, www and .com just feel like some relic from yester-year. But we have gotten used to them to the point we don't necessarily notice.
In my original DNS and Bind book. When people used to look after their own nameservers, it mentions the idea of farming out subdomains in a trusted community spirit.
As such ask a friend to point a subdomain your way.
Exactly.
My partner has inherited a big project and collection that meant everything to their Dad. He would always say, I want this taken on etc. But when push comes to shove, the prospect/reality of inheriting someone else's hobby/business, which requires years and years of work with no return just feels more and more bizarre and absurd. But you feel indebted and horrible not carrying through with wishes.
Never mind a pile of junk. You can just inherit a big pile of problems.
