"common understanding of the basic rules that everyone agrees on"

I would have thought that storming the Capitol, beating and killing police officers was Not Acceptable, but apparently I was wrong.

There are many such examples. We do not agree on the basic rules any more.

As an American, I have a stupid question here: Europeans are smart and capable. Why would they be satisfied with this kind of international dependency for something as important as banking?
Why isn't there a European alternative to Gmail? One that is focused on Euro laws like GDPR ?

Hot take: This is a grifting and jobs program, not an actual solution to a real problem.
I guess we are different then. A non-stop state of panic/fear does not make me feel like procreating.

Easy. Reduce our use of technology and stop consuming so much. It will require you to lower your standard of living.

Is your partner willing to do this with you? Probably not.

For a long time the number 1 song in the USA was "Choosin Texas" by Ella Langley.

I have no idea who that is and I've never heard the song.

"Suffer"? It might help bring home prices back down to reality.

For the first time in my life I'm seeing high-income earners as a big drag on society.

At this point, LLM's are "good enough" for all kinds of tasks. Instead of making them more capable, now the efforts are making them smaller and cheaper.

All aboard! We're racing to the bottom now.

Yes, but where are you going to place ads?

Nobody gets a promo from something that is working well for humans.

Investing in the well-being of our society will severely impact our ability to mint billionaires and trillionaires.
It is inhumane that we don't offer every possible option to those who are suffering.

Re:Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away? on Friday September 18, 2026 @02:07PM (#49758016)
This is what I'm referring to - the seamless integration - "it just works".
Re:Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away? on Friday September 18, 2026 @02:06PM (#49758005)
No - Here is what I mean. When I use Claude Code locally with Ollama/Quen, it can do the work just fine - like creating a script - but it just outputs it, rather than placing it into a file. So far I can't convince it to actually WRITE to a file. With Claude Code, it just works. Recursing around the file system, it just does it. I can't get that working locally.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @11:16AM (#49755604)
I hated them at first, but since I am already dependent on iCloud Keychain to manage my passwords, I just figured there is not really any additional risk. I just make sure I will always have multiple, healthy devices, which are always patched, charged, and sync'ed. And don't put them all in the same physical location at one time.

Ask HN: What happens when Claude Code goes away?

I have become very proficient with Claude Code and I use it for everything, both at work and in my personal life. At this point, if I lost access to it, it would be like missing a body part. At the risk of hyperbole, it makes me a better person. I am more effective in everything I do. Someday it will probably go away. I haven't had great success making Claude Code work with local Ollama/Quen.
