Re:Dual Income, No Kids: What We Know About 'DINKs' in the U.S. on Saturday February 21, 2026 @12:46PM (#47102948)
There‘s an awful lot of self-explaining happening here by childless pet-lovers. Facades getting cracks?!
Re:Dual Income, No Kids: What We Know About 'DINKs' in the U.S. on Saturday February 21, 2026 @12:43PM (#47102913)
I have found meaning in my life without kids and I have found even more meaning in my life with them. What I would never have done is getting a pet to serve as a replacement for kids. That‘s pathetic. Owning pets is generally fine. However, many pet owners have an unhealthy relationship with their child-replacing pets.
Re:Dual Income, No Kids: What We Know About 'DINKs' in the U.S. on Saturday February 21, 2026 @12:41PM (#47102884)
Seeing pets as a replacement for kids is pathetic. I don‘t hold owning a pet against people. They should just have a healthy relationship with them.

Nope.
They get themselves cats or dogs, call themselves cat/dog mom/dad because they want the illusion of another living being loving them without the struggles, parenthood brings. I think it‘s pathetic.

Looks nice. Why not add ActivityPub as well? Or is this not possible?

One will be missed for who he was, the other for a fictional character he once played.
They never could – just read the effing policies introduced by the US long, long ago. Some people just didn‘t want to listen/read/think. That‘s our post-factual world and I hate it so much.
Not a Japanese person. But I regularly shop rice at a big asian supermarket. They offered a huge variety of US rice. However, I bought the Japanese one for twice the cost.

Primary reason: Trump. Secondary reason: quality.

600W of power? Would you sell a car with "35l/100km of power"?
It worked very well for my father in-law‘s prostate cancer.
Re:German coalition government collapses on Thursday November 07, 2024 @01:32PM (#42079431)
Nope. They‘re absolutely right.
Re:Former President Trump is projected to win the presidency on Wednesday November 06, 2024 @01:31PM (#42066978)
This election shows one thing: the average American has got the education level of a potato. As Trump would phrase it: sad.
Re:Install Docmost – open-source Notion Clone on Tuesday July 23, 2024 @10:59AM (#41046666)
Thank you! I can‘t stand that each week I come across some „Notion alternative“ of which none offer databases, except for Anytype. Without that, those „Notion alternatives“ are just alternatives to plain text note taking apps. And there‘s plenty to choose from already.
What‘s more amazing is the chronic anti-Apple stance of many Android/Windows fanboys and fangirls. It‘s like the Steve Ballmer iPhone-release-interview all over again.

Apple and Microsoft are just two very different companies as they always have been. One is a software company that regularly fails with its hardware products and has now turned towards using its users to harvest data at a nightmarish privacy scale, massively investing in a „fuck copyrights“-AI company.

The other is a company that has perfected a hardware-software ecosystem and is more and more creating huge turnovers with services that complement said ecosystem. What you‘ve missed to mention is Apple‘s SoC that still leave the competition in panic mode because of power and power efficiency. MS has tried to establish ARM as a hardware basis more than once and is failing miserably again and again, while Apple has eased everyone into a promising ARM future. This is also the reason for the MS-Intel-Copilot partnership. Two failing companies (in certain areas, for MS) don‘t make a success.

Why can‘t both companies be successful in very different ways?

Just don‘t go there. Country‘s been a mess for a long time anyway.
Nah. Most Americans probably think this is communism.
Re:Vision Pro Teardown Part 2 on Thursday February 08, 2024 @01:12PM (#39305408)
Maybe it‘s linked to streaming resolution and bitrate.
Re:Bluesky signups are now open to the public on Tuesday February 06, 2024 @01:39PM (#39278516)
No thanks. Mastodon has been there for ages and its background is not another VC funded startup company first burning through money and then finding no real way to sustain the platform, finally turning to ads and selling user data.
You feel hurt because you work at Boeing?
Well, at least that monopoly won‘t kill me. Can‘t say that about a Boeing flight.
Wow. I hope, I‘ll never have to fly in a Boeing plane again. As a European, I‘m happy for Airbus.
Please read what exactly has been discussed in the meeting which has been the reason for the current protests. The government has just passed new policies on deportations so for the AfD it‘s not just about deporting criminals.

As they‘re basically Nazis, just look up how everything was building up back in the 1930s-1940s. Then you‘ll know what the people are demonstrating against today.

Not nearly as many. It looked big because it was tractors instead of people. And it was very well covered in all media. Don‘t try to spread false information here.
You can thank Intel for artificially segregating the market by limiting ECC to their more expensive W680 chipset. I went with AMD and ECC RAM at the cost of power efficiency. However, CPU and Motherboard alone would have cost double compared to my AMD config.
It‘s called UPS and is an external battery box that you connect to your server via USB or Ethernet.
It still is a very good idea. How we implemented it however, is the problem.

Nuclear energy is more expensive than any other mean of energy production. That is, when subsidies and disposal of nuclear waste (for a long, long time) are part of the equation instead of privatizing earnings and collectivizing costs. Moreover, nuclear energy produces waste for generations and generations to deal with. In all those decades of nuclear energy production we haven‘t been able to find a good solution for a secure disposal of nuclear waste. Because nobody wants it nearby. Similar to the ExxonMobil CEO quickly becoming a NIMBY regarding fracking when it was supposed to take place near where he lived.

The shift to renewables was slowed down because of cheap gas from Russia and „alternatives“ such as nuclear energy production. Both massive mistakes.

What we had needed was massive investments and partnerships within the EU and with nearby countries such as Norway and Switzerland e.g. for pumped hydro storage, green hydrogen and massive European energy networks (e.g. for solar energy from southern Europe).

That will be our tasks for the next years and statistics show that we have massive investments into solar energy and heat pumps to tackle future challenges.

As a teacher from Germany I love this idea. Please, give it to schools as well. All other (American) options seem to be a privacy nightmare or just too expensive.
Re:Apple might have to pay that €13B EU tax bill after all on Wednesday November 15, 2023 @03:42AM (#38274587)
Good. I like Apple and their products. I understand that publicly traded companies act solely for the benefit of their shareholders and their own profits in general.

But man, are those big companies fu*** when it comes to tax avoidance. This comes at a cost for all societies which would benefit from a more just tax system. As a middle class earner I got the feeling that I‘m double-paying for those companies: for their products and for their tax deals.

Re:I Talk to Strangers on Wednesday November 15, 2023 @03:34AM (#38274536)
Yep, German here. It‘s really awkward and almost only older people do it. I‘m always sorry for them because I figure they are quite lonely, but inside I‘m thinking “Please, just leave me alone.“
