FUN because it solves a real problem (lack of trust in online gambling).
I thought it would revolutionise lots of things. Turns out it took 10 years longer than I expected and is just a "fun" feature for now.
Also, the hive mind developed here is quite strong and sometimes you can predict the general sentiment of the comment thread.
It's still a great source of news though.
Where do I start to know more about this? I dont want it to stress me out though, Im not so risk adverse when it comes to my finance. I spend very little, but I want to learn more about investing.
Any advice? More specifically for people living in EU?
Does anyone feel like reading articles has reached a point of diminished returns?
Any way you can just use this engine as a View in your already existing Android native app? (like with LibGDX)
The only way to be paid according to your real value is to freelance or start your company.
Also, not being able to build a family later if I fail in my next venture. I'm 31 and feel the pressure to build a family somehow.
How can I jump into product management? I founded a startup previously so I can say I have a strong product vision, and I can just feel intuitively that it's the position i'd be good at.
I'm reluctant to put 65k to make the move though. Anyone else made the move Senior software dev -> PM, if yes, how did you go about it?
On a side not, I'm interested in the potential of meme magic although It's completely esoteric and goes against hyper-rational HN spirit ;)
Very funny article. In a modern world focused on the self, this is what you eventually get. Our lives are too comfortable.
I'm thinking the perfect mix is to live 1.5 hours from a big city where the jobs are. Go to the office if needed once/twice a week. Do the rest remotely, enjoy living in a house instead of a cramped appartment.
Is anyone doing this?
I'm starting to think startups are a meme pushed by the VC industry.
I find it bordeline cringey to see how other countries try to imitate "SV culture".
it's one thing to be inspired by something, and no question we should all admire what SV has created. On the other hand, I dream of France creating products that reflect its own identity and culture. It's not like we don't have anything in the past ot get our inspiration from.
I wish we didn't try to become SV, but try to become our better self, so to speak.
I never understood why some companies in France are reluctant to pay well their developers, especially startups with funding.
Paris is not perfect but I don't see how this kind of initiative couldn't be a move in the right direction.
About the money part, Paris is far from being London or NYC, the gravity center isn't financial services, at least you don't feel it when living there.
There is great talent (engineer+design), I'd say the marketing overall is weak and too timid.
I dream of being able to start a company by completing a form and sending a copy of my French ID. And all the rest (accountants/HR/law) would be handled by online third party services smoothly. Same should go for banking services associated with the company.
I think France has great potential but it needs simplification of processes. I'm not expecting the government to do it, hence my desparate call to other French entrepreneurs.
