You may be the most productive emacs user.

emacs is a rabbithole and the cost is rarely worth it. LLM agents do a great job already customizing your configuration for you.

Why do you think Dario is dangerous? I think he's genuine on the dangers of AI capabilities moving faster than AI alignment.
Re:Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @03:52PM (#50077650)
Out of all occupations software engineers shouldn't complain that others are getting rich putting people out of jobs by automating work.
The maintenance costs on urban sprawl are driving many municipalities towards insolvency. Property taxes have to rise because the fiscal efficiency of land in sprawling US cities is very low.
Income taxes have much worse incentives, deadweight loss, and capital flight risks than property taxes or LVT.

We would be a poorer society if we followed your advice 50 years ago.

Land value taxes work better with less restrictions on zoning and development?
Re:Sharing AI progress in mathematics on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @11:14PM (#49987658)
It doesn't seem clear whatsoever that this is true? Is there evidence that LLMs are very skilled at generalizing across domains of mathematics where the training distribution sees little overlap?

As far as I can tell, this is a victory for verifiable loops using LEAN, reinforcement learning, and oodles of compute. I haven't seen evidence yet that this is proof of broad generalization beyond the training distribution.

I didn't say he was struggling, I said he acted against his own financial self interest to warn about AI safety... which he did. I really doubt he figured the popularity from tweeting about quitting anthropic would benefit him more than vesting his stock, as his virality wasn't guaranteed.

Why wouldn't I think he's genuine? What self interested incentive does he have that is stronger than just staying and vesting stocks?

And? He acted directly against his own financial interests to say what he said.
Property taxes are among the best taxes. They're highly efficient, they encourage development on underutilized land.

The Federal Reserve has also found they improve the affordability of buying homes, which leads to younger people getting into the housing market faster.

A land value tax is even better, because it doesn't financially discourage improving your property, and it strongly increases the incentive to sell or develop underutilized land.

The Anthropic safety whistleblower left just before his stock vested.
I don't see how that discredits any of their intellectual arguments?
If organizations actually succeed in making a future AI smarter than us, then how do you hope that it takes actions that are aligned with our interests?

Am I misinterpreting this, or did OpenAI clearly nerf GPT-6 Sol on the 23rd.

Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:55AM (#49865898)
Any primary residence carve out creates a whole lot of bad incentives.

1) Families and marriages formally splitting so that each member can keep one residence

2) People selecting their highest value commercial property at cost as their primary residence regardless of practicality to exempt the tax.

3) Many of the best positive effects of the tax on gradually reorganizing urban geography are seriously lessened.

Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:48AM (#49865848)
Less housing supply means higher rents... so single family zoning disproportionately harms poor people.

This is a big deal, because rent is the biggest factor to the avg person's cost of living.

Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:43AM (#49865803)
Nobody is expropriating your land by upzoning it, they're giving you and all of your neighbours stronger property rights through the freedom to develop your land.

Denser developments are also much more fiscally productive than SFH zoning [1]. This means that cities that upzone will tend to have lower taxes, less debt, and better services in the long run.

Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:40AM (#49865783)
Landlords are often against upzoning (and the increased competition!), but developers benefit from less red tape.
Re:Does Georgism Work? Five Years Later on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:38AM (#49865774)
It isn't clear that upzoning reduces property values, as it increases the potential productivity of a given parcel of land.
Re:California is chasing wealth that has feet on Friday September 25, 2026 @02:45PM (#49848374)
That article is also based on real studies on observable differences between cities today.

It means higher property taxes means lower sales prices, less debt for buyers, and younger people buying their first home and forming families.

A land value tax is better, because it doesn't raise your taxes for improving your home.

The Federal Reserve's research suggests higher property taxes help the young and the working class by improving the immediate affordability of homes.

That... doesn't seem true?

Here's an Illinois professor going through the economics compared to a gas plant.

Nuclear power can become dramatically cheaper than other energy sources in the long run.

Unless it is factory reset (and even then?) it presumably still has saved wifi credentials?
Re:LG Says We're Fake News [video] on Sunday September 13, 2026 @04:01PM (#49688067)
The "average joe" can absolutely do that...

It's as simple as buying a TV, never hooking it up, and then buying something like an Apple TV that you do hook up to the internet.

Re:Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns on Saturday September 05, 2026 @01:47PM (#49578891)
I'm not talking about conservatives.

I mean I went from fresh account to unprompted groypers posting hitler hype edits and white nationalists posting happy merchant memes about the great replacement.

This is uniquely an X thing. It wasn't like this when I used twitter, and it isn't like that on any other socials I know.

Re:Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:54AM (#49575280)
I understand you can still tailor a good experience, but if you create a fresh X account the density of Elon Musk posts is genuinely absurd. There's no way he isn't putting his thumb on the algorithm to boost his reach.

Also the density of pure hate & ragebait by mask-off fascist accounts! It shocks me how much of that I saw unprompted right away after making a new account recently.

Unfortunately there are a lot more than 5 people saying the same misinformation in the comments.
Re:Trade (and Tariffs) on Thursday August 27, 2026 @03:05PM (#49469703)
Economists universally think tariffs are dumb policy.

https://kentclarkcenter.org/surveys/steel-and-aluminum-tarif...

Literally 100% of the 50 expert economists polled by the Kent Clark Center think tariffs overall make Americans worse off.

Nobody in politics can say this simple truth because the rust belt states are critical swing states.

Have you ever heard of comparative advantage?
