Re:Electrification Could Cut Global Energy Use in Half on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:52AM (#50326250)
Sounds like you could benefit from some storage. If everyone was able to use their EV for personal energy storage (known as V2H, vehicle-to-house), or even feed into the grid and be paid for it (known as V2G, vehicle-to-grid), that intermittency problem would be greatly mitigated.

Meanwhile, LLMs have massively buffed internally developed software.

Just have a monarchy that only exists to enforce that one rule.

Liable to get hoodwinked by "academic publisher" types.

Maybe low corruption is a prerequisite for successful technocratic government.

Edit: which makes sense, because technocracy leans heavily on trust (in the experts).

If you want to actually get treatment, you need to pay.
You'd probably use some kind of capacitor
Re:Spain train crash: 'At least 10 dead' in high-speed collision on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:22AM (#50273128)
Would be interesting to see the figures per passenger-mile and per passenger-journey.

2.2x the speed is 1.2x faster.
I think some inverters have a special island mode for off-grid operation, but it's not standard.
Parties are in power, not voters. Or rather, the parties hold the votes that count: those in the assembly.
LLMs are the perfect tool for "finding the right words". They are literally translation machines.
Cambridge engineering had something similar called "standard credit" for minor assignments. You'd get the full mark by default, only losing marks if missing or egregiously bad. The exam at the end of each year carried almost all of the grade. It meant you had to engage with the work, but didn't turn it into an exhausting competition for the best coursework grades.
It should be social and other soft pressure to do homework, only the final exam should be graded.

This is going to be something in the cookie banners at some point.
It's the first thing that comes to mind. Note too that I'm not trying to draw a distinction between the illness and the treatment, only the time period.
Surely an embarrassing loss is worse than dropping a case.
Medieval guild mechanics. Same with doctors.
Before or after 2020?
Re:The painter behind Manhattan’s Gilded Age interiors on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:23PM (#50199164)
Yes, hopefully more detailed designs will come.

Modern architecture is so grey and featureless by comparison, inside and out. Mostly to save money I think, but also because eyes are overstimulated by screens.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:58PM (#50188852)
Anything reasonable. Not in a single meal, not really in a day, and doesn't fit a week either I think.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:25PM (#50186187)
Planes carry billions of passengers per year, so their design and operation needs orders of magnitude more oversight than an unmanned cargo mover. Every little detail of an airliner needs to be scrutinised for the various ways it could affect safety. Rockets don't require that level of safety assurance.

Nobody is eating a pound of beef anyway, or at least I hope not. And certainly nobody is eating a kilogram of beef!
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:57AM (#50180149)
So an annual return trip is two steaks per week.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:51AM (#50180047)
Also, what "most people" think is largely irrelevant when it comes to policy.

Late-stage individualism.

They aren't having any children, so it's hard to care about 100 years from now.

Where there's no will, there's no way.
