Re:The ACLU Suddenly Reverses Its Support for Transparency on Saturday January 22, 2022 @08:14PM (#30042662)
Need a vaccine card to leave the house, but no ID to elect the government, it would be hilarious if it weren't literally destroying the country.

Government power is inherently corrupt. Everyone wants their government to step in and implement their pet preference, and very few people are willing to say: the less a government does, the better.

Edit: apparently I'm blocked from replying below, so: Saying that people who disagree aren't knowledgeable is the biggest thing making politics so hateful today. Small government works great. The smaller the better. For me, that's no dumb abortion laws or carbon taxes.

Well until they know what it is, they don't know. Didn't the CDC say it was psychosomatic? Seems a bit widespread for that to be true.

Ravaging the population? It's this exaggeration of the disease that I'm saying we should stop. Just accept it like it's a weird sequel to the flu and move on.

IDK, their main aquarium is the entire ocean, and they still come up on land.

I'm a professor and we're seeing drops in enrollment and huge drops in work being done, learning, and creativity. We need to say, hey it's been two years in March, we're done. March Onward, or something. No more.

Hah, this comment dropped 6 points in less than a second. This article will be flagged soon.

Re:Is old music killing new music? on Thursday January 20, 2022 @08:09AM (#30008399)
Oh man, I wish. For me even the biggest names barely have more than 3 or 4 songs worth listening to.
Re:Netflix’s Prices Are Rising Faster Than Cable on Monday January 17, 2022 @10:44AM (#29967682)
Netflix's user experience has always been bad, and it's worse than ever. Engineers also don't make content, so if they're doing any good, I guess it's backend.
You're insane if you think that either those nations would take any real action OR that the US couldn't take them all at once without breaking a sweat. The scope and quality of military power and technology wielded by the US is astounding. Probably just the Navy could take those countries.

You can both understand that this is a serious, novel disease and also understand that the way those in authority responded was done to create an emergency with specific outcomes.
Re:Inflation rises to 7% in December (led by energy) on Wednesday January 12, 2022 @07:34PM (#29915136)
Yep whether it's empty or full a high rent building sells for more.
The original intention was to have much less power consolidated at the Federal level, with each state essentially a nation, even more free than in the EU today. Sadly power consolidates until it implodes.
Re:Approved Cameras on Saturday January 08, 2022 @07:32PM (#29858390)
You mix the dialog louder for the entire piece, and every other sound in the middle. No extreme highs, no extreme lows. General compression with dialog forward choices.
Re:Approved Cameras on Saturday January 08, 2022 @06:18PM (#29857666)
Yeah, I have no interest in surround sound, I just want to hear the words. I specifically don't want to be rumbled by gunshots and explosions.
Re:Approved Cameras on Saturday January 08, 2022 @06:08PM (#29857567)
Wild volume swings, insane punches for explosions but silent dialogue.
Re:Approved Cameras on Saturday January 08, 2022 @06:03PM (#29857515)
Now do "sound must be remastered for stereo speakers."
Maybe art is worth its market rate.
That's an intentionally misleading (but technically correct) use of the word structure.
Re:Why Restaurants Are So Fucked on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @05:23PM (#29815947)
Meanwhile restaurants are overpriced, the food is worse than cooking at home, and since the pandemic, the service is universally horrible.
This t-shirt has no arm holes. In the future, we hope to have a t-shirt with no holes in it whatever.

The shirt is larger than the last shirt, but it's thinner. We've removed the arm sigh and side panels to make the largest, thinnest shirt that has ever existed.

It was all on purpose: sugar and corn syrup are cheap.
I don't even buy tomatoes any more, they all taste like wet paper.
A military invasion costs more, especially if it doesn't go well. Better to buy, bribe, and bully.
I don't know why any large country would invade instead of just slowly, secretly buying the smaller country and it's power over a decade or two. Take China and Taiwan, or this situation in Ukraine. Even a heavy handed economic hostile takeover would be ignored by the other world powers because no individual politician wants to be responsible for starting the fighting. Eventually you own everything, you've moved a ton of citizens in, you've bought all the politicians with puppet corporations. Then they vote to join your wonderful nation.

Cool! A coat of gloss will make your exterior paint last a lot longer and seal everything better. A nice exterior gloss paint is like a skin for your walls.

Anybody looking to do this, you could probably go 8x8 for the same money, plywood comes 4x8 and most lumber comes in 8' lengths.

Re:Salaries surge for white collar workers on Friday December 31, 2021 @08:22PM (#29754457)
5 to 10 percent raise will mean that you only lost a little income to inflation. Yay.

Of course those at the bottom who aren't getting these raises will be even further down.

Re:If – A Poem by Rudyard Kipling on Friday December 31, 2021 @07:49PM (#29754227)
The systematic destruction of everything strong and good in the past is done on purpose to disorient and make people more open to dramatic, sudden change.
