No ISA/architecture licensing fees, no restrictions on what you can do with it - you can build an open source core or you could sell your design to others. ARM/x86 doest have this, its all locked up behind lawyers
Re:RISC-V Pushes into the Mainstream on Friday December 23, 2022 @11:12AM (#34107349)
It doesn’t matter which party is correct, its now added risk that ARM could be the bad actor
Re:RISC-V Pushes into the Mainstream on Friday December 23, 2022 @10:05AM (#34106574)
ARM committed the sin of suing a really big customer of theirs, so there is likely some exit-seeking all around the industry

The star64 (from pine64) might have a better chance of being well-supported

Figure out how to argue for more headcount, by expanding the scope of the team or by asking reports to narrow the depth of their work.

Sounds like people should avoid paying google for anything if they rely on the google ecosystem

Thats too costly of a barrier to the legal right to share cat pictures
Re:Bill to ban social media for Texans under 18 on Friday December 09, 2022 @12:58PM (#33924378)
As I said in my other reply, its too expensive. Are you going to pay for it on their behalf?

Additionally, how are you going to handle undocumented persons.

Passports are very expensive though, like hundreds of dollars. They’d have to make them free for this to work

Plenty of people only have a SSN card and a birth certificate, as they neither drive (perhaps due to age or preference) or travel by plane (often for financial reasons or preference).
Re:There aren't enough remote jobs to go around on Thursday December 08, 2022 @02:43PM (#33912271)
Yeah it can be much easier to get it through some company internal processes like that and cancel the unneeded ones
In a small company, a real conversation is possible. In a large one the CEO is 100% doublespeak and the HR departments are cold

Burning diesel with unpredictable prices is also money lost, there would have to be a tradeoff or niche where it makes sense

ICE leaf blowers will get banned city by city
