Was excited to click on it to begin with, but nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw that it was Elixir and LiveView.

It’s a shame that those Minsky links have been broken for at least a few months now. Does anyone know where this material is?
How does he blink? From the picture it looks like his eyelid would have to be stretched out over the device with his fingers.

Thank you so much for all of this great work. What was the inspiration for this direction? Was it a personal itch? Or something else?

I’ve enjoyed all 4 of these articles in this “Jackpot” series. Sort of exploratory writing. You can feel that he’s trying to find the truth, not necessarily convince. Plus it’s like all Gibsonian references.

I liked this. It’s a different approach so take a look at the free pages. Not for everyone but worth a look to see if it fits you. Bonus: the author is responsive.

I don't think Chinese cyber spying is really news to anyone. What's different about this now is that the U.S., a few others and notably, NATO are specifically calling out China for it.

That's a pretty heavy diplomatic change. Especially the inclusion of NATO.

Re:Netlify Status – CDN Issues on Thursday March 25, 2021 @03:13PM (#26584175)
This got me today. Probably could be characterized as the classic case of: Company says a certain use case is unsupported, but tries hard to accommodate users who are stuck with the unsupported use case, so they hack up a decent work around under the hood. Then the technically unsupported use case blows up, so they then have to scramble to support it with a quick work around...for the workaround.

The workaround worked. I think at this point it makes me more likely to keep using Netlify. I love the product. And I think I love the support for unsupported un-recommended feature that they supported today.

Thanks Netlify Ops!

Does anyone know if "docketed" means that SCOTUS granted Certiorari?
I second this. What was your handle?

This makes so much sense, and now looking at this image, I wonder if it explains "tabs vs spaces".
I think your examples are valid. I wonder though if it's a choice for someone to work 80 hours a week at $40k to make video games versus 37 hours a week at $80k doing forms over tables stuff for The Bobs. Is that a choice or exploitation?
I'm 46 years old. I can't think of one example where I was exploited as a tech worker. I'm from a union town, grew up in a union family. I support unions. The UAW was very important to the country and the middle class. I'm just not sure where the need is in tech. I think it might hurt us, if anything. Tech workers are not fungible. We do have quite a bit of leverage. Your average factory floor worker is fungible and has almost zero leverage.
Re:What the media universe currently looks like on Monday April 08, 2019 @11:47AM (#19606273)
Maybe I'm blind or it's not rendering correctly, but, where is Amazon and Apple in this universe?
The author makes a case against “corporate giganticism” being a cause and blames a “government agency” namely The Fed. It’s hard to take anything the article says seriously if they can’t recognize that The Fed isn’t a government agency and is what many people hold to be the epitome of “corporate giganticism”.

The author seems very confused between the structure of the Treasury Dept and The Fed

Maybe they get the "hit" at 45. (happy that I'm 45 now) But it's a good education to fail fast, screw up, make mistakes, start lots of things and basically prepare yourself through experience to be good to go when you're 45. I'd be interested to see if there are people at 45 "hitting it out of the park" that didn't ground out to shortstop 4 times in their 20s and 30s.
Re:Detroit Was Crumbling, Now It's Reviving on Monday April 30, 2018 @04:00PM (#16961722)
Posting from Ferndale and some super seriously expensive commercial real estate. I'd say it used to be cheap, but Ferndale is long past cheap now. Hip? Yes, and we pay on par with Troy commercial rent for that coolness in a former industrial building turned office. Residential is pretty much the same now.

Your point about Ann Arbor relative to Detroit is spot on. Detroit doesn't really have UofM. It has Wayne State, but neither UofM or Michigan State can be claimed by Detroit.

Re:Detroit in Ruins on Wednesday August 10, 2011 @12:06PM (#2868834)
I think Dan Gilbert spent all of his Lebron money on skyscrapers and Detroit Venture Partners for one. Pete Karmanos for two.
Re:Detroit in Ruins on Wednesday August 10, 2011 @11:58AM (#2868798)
They aren't very up to date. Many of these have been replaced. The velodrome is maintained by people who simply like to ride. It doesn't look like that picture at all.

We get it. There are many urban wasteland piles of crap and thousands of houses that are abandoned. Downtown Detroit is represented here by about 5% of what is actually there as far as ruins go. Next to the skyscrapers are brand new buildings housing Quicken and CompuWare among many others. Dan Gilbert actually bought a couple of the buildings shown here to move the rest of his people into. "Skyscrapers are on sale!" -- Dan Gilbert at TedXDetroit.

It's not perfect but I wonder how many people actually think that this is what is "normal". I mean come on...Irish Hills? They aren't even in the same metro area, let alone Detroit. I would need a map to even find them. Next to the "CPA" Building is one of the hottest restaurants for hundreds of miles.

Couldn't get your way to work, it blew off the rest of the string. Managed to get it to work by calling .to_s on each variable. Wondering if I did something wrong. I have your same setup and I'm a complete Ruby Noob.
