Freedom2

Despite the fact that banning AI as a term is pretty silly, he's right in that virtually everyone else is using SI.
Do you have an example of opinions that are counter to the narrative that faced reprisal?
I disagree. The US has the 1st and 2nd amendments, which gives us protection from tyranny in the government, and which lets us criticize the government without repercussion. No other country grants its citizens those rights, and you can see the effects of that worldwide, where despite it all, we still have our free speech!
I think this point is most accurate. I know a few pro-Flock people - most are either working for a YC company or are in the process of their application.
Re:Reforming English Spelling on Friday October 23, 2026 @05:27PM (#50215605)
Yes, I've heard that commonly pronounced by Americans. Not to mention that most will also try to correct you if you dare pronounce it differently than they do!
Why would it be sacrilege to say that? It seems entirely reasonable.
Re:Google cleared 300 hectares of Finnish forest on Thursday October 22, 2026 @06:57PM (#50202244)
Agreed. Perhaps the poster was being ironic, but we'll never know unless explicitly told.
Re:Claude Duet on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @03:47PM (#50186575)
I think that as these tools coalesce and we start to see the real super-in intelligence leaders come out on top, there'll probably be less volume and fewer but deeper things to discuss.
Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:49PM (#50154696)
My friends in the midwest always tell me egg prices have actually never been lower. They've been tracking them for a while now, and they were low during 2014-2020, then had a massive, unexpected jump, then another massive decrease starting 2025. Curious to know what the reasons are here.
Re:Why are we even doing all this? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @09:28PM (#50112617)
I think that's not taking the most charitable reading of their intentions. They are simply concerned with unverified, untested vaccines, much like many here were during COVID.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @03:14PM (#50077061)
What's the infamous Dropbox comment?
Re:Yandex bot traffic down 99% after data center attack on Monday October 12, 2026 @01:54AM (#50051862)
I've actually seen less controversial comments here on HN as well.
Perhaps, but what about the new US designated superintelligence?
Perhaps there's a YC startup idea in there!
Thankfully I still have a decent supply of ivermectin from HNs guidance during COVID.
Re:Why don't more developers "use the platform"? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @05:02PM (#49957825)
That's fascinating that it already had a term! The YC founder I used to work for was adamant that he came up with the term "idealized path" for this phenomenon.
These days I like to use the term superintelligence, as coined by the government elected by the US population.
I live in the mid-west and while I agree with you, unfortunately, McDonald's is the only realistically good option here. Every other restaurant or food chain has either shut down or is full of unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
Perhaps we should give credit to Adams' parents for having a child, else the investigation would have never kicked off.
Re:AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @03:51PM (#49807149)
I think one other point is that demand for American goods has never been higher. I've had Europeans come to me with tears in their eyes saying 'sir, sir, we want more Fords'. There has never been a better car brand than an American one, that's for sure.
Re:Xiaomi MiMo v2.6 on Monday September 21, 2026 @04:59PM (#49793341)
Agreed, and also because I support freedom of speech!
What logistics concerns are there? Isn't the US supposed to be one of the best at managing wartime logistics, which is why they have bases all around the world?
Agreed. That's actually what OP said as well.
Re:The Beauty of Roundabouts on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @11:59PM (#49721937)
I live in the US and roundabouts simply don't work.
Layoffs often have nothing to do with specific individuals, so your last assertion is false.
Re:Fuck it, make it anyway on Saturday September 12, 2026 @04:30PM (#49676873)
I don't understand this comment. I also slogged through blogs, docs, forums and websites and throughout it all I found it enriching and enjoyable, despite some frustrations along the way. Even if the end result is much faster to get to, I can sit back and think to myself that I learnt a lot and had enjoyable interactions.

Some may think their pursuit of mastery is now wasted, but I find that intriguing especially in a field where mastery cannot really be obtained due to technological progress. I suppose I just don't let others reduce my own experience and what I value?

Re:Fuck it, make it anyway on Saturday September 12, 2026 @04:21PM (#49676779)
I remember running into a lot of those kind of folk here on HN, and unsurprisingly, a large portion of them are the biggest LLM detractors.
Re:Will There Be a 7G? on Saturday September 12, 2026 @04:13PM (#49676713)
I'm concerned because my 5G microchip is still going strong. Will the next advances be compatible?
Re:OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems on Saturday September 12, 2026 @01:06AM (#49669013)
If someone made an API to build a data center? Or made an API to keep their lights on? What then?
Libertarians should try at a small scale first so that others can see the genius of their ideas, and be more encouraged to vote for them. I hear New Hampshire has towns open to this idea.
