Even in that case, there are Firefox extensions to change your user agent. Suddenly the app requesting Chrome/Edge works perfectly, even though we are running in Firefox.

We didn't have the same experience.

A bug that also affected me was reported at least twice (March 2019 and April 2019[1]).

After 5 months of wait, the OP posted a script he wrote to work around the issue.

A simple path building issue took 8-9 months to get pushed in the BETA channel.

There were also rumors of an acquisition at the same time, which were denied.

Re:Let’s talk about usernames on Monday February 12, 2018 @10:21AM (#16359126)
That's because your password needs to be "easily" entered through the phone call service.
Netflix (and other similar platforms), Amazon Prime, Twitch subscriptions.

Those are only 3 examples a ton of people pay for.

If you provide a good service, you will get subscribers. News have been available for free for decades thanks to OTA TV broadcasts. That's why people don't pay for it.

Niche journalism needs to have subscriptions since they can have way less views and people looking for news on that niche are ready to pay.

Re:Dropbox Files Confidentially for U.S. IPO on Thursday January 11, 2018 @02:29PM (#16126975)
Agreed on all your points except the last one.

Not sure if it was just in my part of the world, but when Dropbox started, people only paid for local storage. And that was mostly technical people outside of small USB drives.

Re:HTTPS on Your Landing Page Is Important on Thursday December 14, 2017 @10:32AM (#15923013)
He meant over the phone, not on a phone.

Ex : I call my bank and I have to go through a menu leading me to the right agent. Eventually, it asks for my password over the phone that I need to type using the 10 numbers on a phone dial.

Good luck using your fingerprint there :)

What if it's actually an improvement in search results?

Everyone will search for something with a different set of words based on their experience. If most of those sets of words, all used to search for the same topic in the end, return the same results, isn't it an improvement?

Unfortunately, as you said, it doesn't help when trying to tweak the results you see to find your answer, but most people probably don't search in depth to find THE answer, but are looking for AN answer.

Most people in that town are probably living off wellfare.

Yes, it's cheap, but there aren't many good job opportunities around a ghost town.

Re:Why We Must Fight for the Right to Repair Our Electronics on Wednesday October 25, 2017 @10:07AM (#15550207)
FYI, the display is bigger, but the phone is actually smaller due to the "bezelless" design of the LG V30.

The difference in weight is mostly due to the reduced body size, so less materials used.

A thinner phone also generally weighs less due to less material.

The combination of soldered battery (so thinner phone) and "bezelless" design could explain a large part of the difference in weight due to less materials used.

Is it bloat if it is required to make good app?
Re:How Booking.com manipulates users on Thursday September 21, 2017 @03:11PM (#15306463)
The difference here is that you can easily calculate taxes based on the price you can see since taxes don't vary in the same state/province (because this also applies to Canada...).

On Airbnb, it's up to the property owner to decide cleaning fees and such, and there isn't any rule about what that includes (that I know of).

Re:Google Chrome to stop autoplaying content with sound on Friday September 15, 2017 @02:00PM (#15259263)
I did not know there was an option for this.

I have now enabled it.

Thanks

My sister does that.

She just keeps the TV on at all times.

Watching a show on Netflix on her tablet? TV on.

Takes a shower and is in the bathroom for 30-45 minutes? TV on.

Leaves the house and someone is there, though not watching TV? Let's TV on. I have to shut it down myself.

I have absolutely no idea how she picked up that habit. No one in the (immediate) family does it.

Re:iOS 11 has a feature to temporarily disable Touch ID on Thursday August 17, 2017 @03:26PM (#15039999)
It is already a thing on Android.
Except those are actually long-term rentals.

What if Google or Apple or Microsoft, for whatever reason, decide to pull the plus on their service?

Now you paid for nothing and don't own whichever movie you "bought" anymore.

Re:Ask HN: What tasks do you automate? on Sunday July 16, 2017 @02:33PM (#14783438)
Maybe you should automate your line breaks :)
That's because trackpads are now used to control as you would on a phone/tablet : tap for single click, double tap for double-click, two-finger tap for right click, pinch to zoom, etc.

Ideally, there would still be buttons to allow both types of control though.

The postman, local mail company, phone line company, Microsoft (Skype).

Unless you talk to them face to face, most, if not all, forms of communication rely on third parties.

Re:Android Auto: right on your phone screen on Monday November 07, 2016 @01:19PM (#12893411)
The app itself doesn't need Bluetooth.

From what I understood, Bluetooth is necessary only to have the app automatically launch when connecting to whatever Bluetooth device/infosystem unit you have in your car.

I sure hope they don't force their customers into an extra 100+$.
Hit that Ctrl-S now.

And in 5 minutes.

And 5 minutes after that.

Repeat until you stop working today.

Hit Ctrl-S every start of the day after 5 minutes of work.

And 5 minutes after that.

Repeat until you stop working that day.

There you go. Saved you a lot of hours of work.

Re:Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome on Monday August 29, 2016 @03:06PM (#12384344)
It has been available for quite a while, but only for videos (they added a button in the video player).

If you want to cast a tab, while it's not the optimal solution, you can cast your whole screen using the quick settings tile.

Re:Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome on Monday August 29, 2016 @03:03PM (#12384305)
Not sure if it works with desktops/laptops, but there is a guest mode (disabled by default) in the settings (on the Android app) that allows anyone to add thing sto the player queue.

Only app I know for sure it works is Youtube. I'm not sure what other app handles it, maybe GPM and Spotify.

Re:Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome on Monday August 29, 2016 @03:00PM (#12384280)
You can't cast a browser window, but you can cast videos : http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/google-adds-chrome...
Re:Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome on Monday August 29, 2016 @02:32PM (#12384053)
I understood that.

I was just clarifying for obilgic by explaining that he wasn't mistaken until more recently when Google rebranded the API.

Re:Google Cast is now built-in to Chrome on Monday August 29, 2016 @02:17PM (#12383911)
At first, it was all Chromecast.

The API was even called the Chromecast API.

They changed it to Google Cast last March [0].

Then you get people hating "bloatware" and complaining.
If you have a wired connection, there is no toggle for that setting.

There is probably a registry value you can change to do so though.
