>"but maybe less important than they once were"

On browser based front ends it seems to be the case for me even though I still impose certain guidelines. On my C++ backends, no fucking way. Even the best models produce working but absolutely disastrous non scalable (performance wise and design wise) code unless watched over like a hen. Having said that - the value I get in either case is enormous.

Lol. Love it but for some reason my windows does not do any of that
Re:Writing Efficient C++ Code on Sunday September 27, 2026 @01:16PM (#49868666)
My latest C++ project is assessment engine covering various actuarial type things like calculates risk for insurance etc. Typical performance for bulk calculation reaches millions to 10s of millions assessments per second on 16 core server. Well there is a trick there that inside it JIT compiles rules from a DSL to an executable code. interpreter mode (used mainly for audit mode) is about 3-5 times slower which is still insanely fast
>"Those wars are essential to protecting our economic interests"

Translation - we bomb people for money. well thanks for being frank anyways. otherwise it is sick to hear all that moralizing about "us being a good guys"

Cut the fucking crap Anthropic. While I personally benefit from AI at the moment I think with the way our society is organized / managed / ruled AI will help us to a major disaster

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @06:04PM (#49635134)
There is a difference between laptop and a phone. Hopefully in the future phone can be switched to a full desktop mode and OS when it beams to large screen. Well that is unless by then we have chip in our brains or what's equally bad everything rented and leased and can be used from any physical location. Convenient but deadly.

I am 65 and still enjoy software development (not coding in particular) but decomposing business idea into software architecture and functionality. Decomposing is the part I really enjoy, the rest is a necessity but with AI that rest takes way less of my time than it used to.

I do not work for someone though. I develop products for clients or for my own business, was doing it all my life and was doing it from my own office for last 26 years. Not overworked either. Have enough time to enjoy life. Al in all very happy

in 10 years any phone should be able to wirelessly stream it to any monitor / tv and plenty of those will be everywhere

Re:Gemini 3.8 Flash on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @12:30PM (#49538701)
>"safety performance" - this starting to get long in the tooth. Gemini cut programming session 3 times for "safety reasons" yesterday for mentioning image generation (I need to generate bunch of those for infinite zoom virtual training app experience). After I got creative and managed to trick it to answer t was of course because "think of a children"

And in my other app I was debugging and using OpenAI to optimize some path it cut me off numerous times because it did not like JIT functionality (this is my commercial business rule evaluation engine that compiles rules to executable code inside the app to increase performance using asmjit library)

I am basically paying for them to waste my tokens and time on these 2 tasks

So they want to see my driver's license "to make the world safer" when in reality all they do is facilitating mass fraud. When the fuck will those brainless infusoria will get punished 9fat chance).
love it. It has a mood
