Re:If you love a website, back it up on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @01:31AM (#50348762)
Take youtube, I see plenty of videos being gone. Now any videos I like, I download it.

And remember this https://www.reddit.com/r/Mcat/comments/5yffns/uc_berkeley_is... / https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13768856

So no it's not an hyperbole, what used to be a place to share content becomes closed source.

People keep spouting torrenting is a solution, but a shitload of torrents are dead now.

Re:GPT-Rosalind-6 System Card Addendum on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:24PM (#50343171)
I just know that over the weekend, I was more wtf is going on with either Astra or Opus 5.5 than usually.
In a lot of companies, you would get charges back on usage/license/cost and this can get even funnier in NGOs.

In a similar way, internal employees would have also a "standard daily rate" like an external employee.

Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Friday October 30, 2026 @12:58PM (#50306739)
For the last 10 years, I don't think I met a lot of senior architects or dev who could understand all that.

Companies loves to have "specialized experts" who skilled up in one afternoon in their field. It might be different in startup, but in consulting world in relatively large enterprises, it's just a fucking joke.

Re:Patrick Stewart has died on Thursday October 29, 2026 @04:23PM (#50295313)
The 70s-90s was basically the boom of international stars, with a highly limited media ventures, so everyone with a TV would be aware of them, at least in the western world.

From 2000s, culture has been more diluted across the medias.

Re:Spain train crash: 'At least 10 dead' in high-speed collision on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:07AM (#50271246)
It feels like every few years there is such collision in Spain :-/
Either chatgpt or claude are building scripts to do those and has been for a few months at least now.
Re:XPS 16 Creator Edition Laptop on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:01AM (#50231101)
On Apple website, US one, M5 Max with 128GB is $7000. So yeah? lulz
Re:XPS 16 Creator Edition Laptop on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:59AM (#50231087)

Re:How is music possible on Friday October 23, 2026 @03:22PM (#50214063)
Well don't read anything related to music analysis, or something I discovered this week https://cklixx.people.wm.edu/teaching/math400/Chris.pdf or for some books : "Exploring Musical Spaces. A Synthesis of Mathematical Approaches" or "Generalized Musical Intervals and Transformation"
But Qwen 3.8 27b is unbearable slow, you get 10minutes of "let me think" over any trivial stuff.
Re:eMudhra to Exit Global SSL/TLS Certificate Business on Friday October 23, 2026 @04:30AM (#50205993)
AI ceremony.
Re:What shall I teach my son? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:20PM (#50172100)
At this stage, I feel kids learn more in their environments than their parents...

Behavior learnt from school is exhausting me.

Companies still believe they have IP to protect. Even when all they do are basic CRUD systems or on the verge of collapsing if they don’t renew some contracts.
Re:The game industry is broken – can we fix it? on Sunday October 18, 2026 @04:31AM (#50139132)
Especially given that Everquest had done that for a few years and was a major revenue stream. That was a 200% "MBA" decision.

And soon we'll see also Wow Legend? I kid I kid.

If Astra is leading the pack...Considering it's supposed to be one of the slowest model.
Colors are as vibrant as late 90s cheap laptops.
Re:Mozilla Introduces Firefox Enterprise on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:30AM (#50071454)
I gotta love to get "for security/safety" reasons, and yet I get ads on anything served. Bonus points for YouTube.
Re:Were Software Engineers blue-collar workers all along? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @06:30AM (#50069530)
But eventually, do you really care? Are you using only software that you developed? For decades we outsourced software development to third parties, to place where people have never seen a line of code, without code review and dubious software development practice. Whole F100 organizations were running on that type of software development.
Yet software quality has been in deep dive for a while, long before AI.
Re:The Slow Formation of Durable Software on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:03PM (#50008492)
Agile and/or web based app killed software quality.

/change my mind.

Re:GPT‑6 and Intelligent UI for everyone on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:10PM (#49998145)
Well, like 30 years ago, a French comedy show had foreseen it, the "World Company" buying everything, no need to understand French to understand the "joke" at the end https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4du7uh
Re:FTL: A new operating system for clouds on Sunday October 04, 2026 @02:16AM (#49951161)
FTL stands for "For The Lose" or "For The Loose"?
You take Qwen3.6 35b on a 5090rtx, and here you get a higher score than Jev, for 2sec more latency on average. So yeah it's not subsecond, but I am sure that if I had VC money, I could too get within 500ms too!
Re:Pi 1.0 on Thursday October 01, 2026 @05:02PM (#49927048)
Well, according to claude and Jevbench, Qwen 3.6 35b with ninfer on a RTX 5090@480W is like 3-5 time slower but 10%-15% better performance on the public set, I could see prefill > 15k for 700-800decode. Latency against what and which hardware? I don't really get jev...
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Thursday October 01, 2026 @12:55AM (#49917881)
As a non googler, I understood it as "is it webscale" type of jokes.
Re:GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @03:57PM (#49899428)
cheerleader hallucinating agent. That's Gemini.
Re:Reading’s Bayeux Tapestry on Monday September 28, 2026 @03:25AM (#49874670)
Because it's a gorgeous piece of history. I have a paper reproduction that is 30m long. Yes, 30meters or I guess like 100 feet? From Citadelles et Mazenot edition, gorgeous books.
You won't have this type of billboard in Paris...And it looks so off.
