Just couldn't weave it awone, could you?

I think this is one of those cases where there's really very little way of knowing what really worked and what didn't. It's like a sports team: you can make ALL the right managerial choices, but still fail due to chance and factors outside your control.

At best there are some reasonably good heuristics.

What the hell kind of messing around is that? Did he think he was at the unit he rented that came with door-kicking privileges?

It's like crypto hype without the crypto.

To be fair to Cain/Qabil, he didn't know ambushing Abel/Habil was going to kill him. Nobody had died before.

One look at a pachycephalosaurus skull nearly had me convinced dragons were real and dinosaurs were the myth.

Ah yes. The old sickos trying to give acid to your babies.

Axolotl. Very popular and recognizable.
Re:There is only one amphibian emoji on Friday August 30, 2024 @03:01PM (#41403551)
This is the kind of bad idea that I want to see.
Re:There is only one amphibian emoji on Friday August 30, 2024 @03:00PM (#41403545)
That was going to be my suggestion as well. They're popular and recognizable.

Our dragons are all reptiles around here. I had to slay four of them last fall before they set up dens in the yard. It was miserable work, but I'm a good candidate for canonization now, which is more than I can say for most weekend projects.
Maybe it's an actor for a nation state intentionally dropping this disinformation as a false flag to distract the humongous brains of HN!!!
I don't understand. The pie worked on my machine.
You have a weirdly narrow view of what constitutes art or craft.
> Software is mostly for getting work done

Hmm... While I try to refrain from picking sides in a beatdown on an analogy, that's an interesting suggestion that seems worth examining.

There's a lot of software I use that isn't for getting work done. Even the software that's meant for getting work done doesn't have to be used that way.

Careful with that edge, son. Don't want you to cut yourself.
I like it. We can bike-shed and ackshually the analogy to death, but it's a useful one.

How well does this pie scale?

Sorry, it's a pie. If you want some, I'm sharing.

I saw that too. Same thought at the same time. They should date.

> important but the work itself is fairly low value

Because it's important, vital really, it has noun value, but for some reason it is not verb valued. This disconnect is also rampant among nurses and teachers. If you know any, ask and they'll let you know. Dishwashers don't even get an appreciation week.

Yes, there is a need to be condescending. Outsourcing your personal notepad by emailing people off-hours is silly, rude, and abusive. That kind of behavior warrants direct confrontation and aggressive ridicule.

I've heard a hypothesis that suggests the evolution of eyes set off the Cambrian Explosion. Rather than a "a metaphysical world of wonders", it was a physical world of things to eat and be eaten by.
LMAO! No... How did you even get that?

> Sometimes I get a random thought on a Saturday

I'm suggesting when you have that random thought, you write it the fuck down -- even if you have to add a reminder to call or email someone at an appropriate time. I'm kind of shocked that this is some new development to people.

Non-descript error after 180 seconds. Vivaldi on Android.

Please turn off the rolling animation for the duration timer. It looks really wrong when the numbers wind back (which they wouldn't do on a rotor) and when the trailing zeroes vanish.

That's what paper is for. Not email.
There's also the call you get when the founder breaks something and blames the person who touched it before them.

Re:Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)? on Saturday August 24, 2024 @10:07PM (#41343727)
Yeah, I need that too. I was able to get a therapy appointment in October. My last boss at Rent-Seeking Publisher screwed me over past the degree of "people used to duel over things like this". Also other shit.

I have to cut up a downed tree limb in my yard, make birthday invitations for my daughter, and get a job.
