Users have grown acustom to certain modern features and functionality but every vision for a new web throws those out the window and and tries to recreate the most simplest form of the web.
The web today sucks but i'd rather have it than only static sites.
Re:Show HN: I built a multiplayer game where you're an aerial fighter cat
on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:16PM (#50312624)
The core gameplay is so 'bad'. It looks and feels like a mobile game slop you'd see in a shady popup ad. The guns seen to have broken physics, the movement has input lag. I guess the idea of cat copters fighting is cool but there needs to be refinement to the core mechanics.
Maybe thats just the state of web games and they're all like this.

These Chinese companies use the data in ways that enable scamming of millions of people and businesses per year. The sheer amount of cybercrime that comes out of China and NK is crazy, its genuinely a threat to average people.

The Jagex of today is worse. For every good update there is a landslide of terrible balancing that erodes 100s of hours of progress. They have paved over so much of the game they cant really be called old school runescape. Sailing should never have been released.
Re:We're working on a new RuneScape MMO

Everything Jagex touches turns to shit. They are not good at creating. At best they are a steward for already created IP and the community provides that taste that makes it good.

I understand you're talking about % of energy generation and its fine to highlight it but people here are talking as if % of energy generation means less coal emissions when its actually the complete opposite. There is almost no reason to care about % of energy generation by coal when they add the level of coal production that they've added over the past 15 years. CO2 output producted after 2010 is completely different to CO2 produced pre 1950. The difference is once the world started addressing climate change china went the complete opposite direction and because they can highlight a few stats people endless sweep for them as if they're actually doing something good. They have objectively destroyed the world.
Re:Alibaba releases Qwen 3.8 Omni Flash
on Sunday September 20, 2026 @03:46AM (#49773481)
It only started dropping last year and by dropping you mean total % of energy generation because total coal energy production is still going up.

Re:Ask HN: What default model do you use and why?
on Saturday September 12, 2026 @09:07PM (#49678893)
You can make the same argument about China. They are producing so much Co2 its pushed the world past the point of no return. All the climate change policy in the world cant change anything because china took so long to begin addressing the issue. They started nearly a decade and a half later than they ought to. But yeah american datacenters are the problem here...

Why would ladybird be any different? The developer is not anti corporate and is closer ideologically to Google than Mozilla.

Passing tests and has abysmal performance on basic web features. Not to mention how many security issues are present. Its unserious to suggest it as an alternative at this stage. It make people think they dont have to support firefox because there is alternatives just around the corner.
Re:Hang on to Your Firefox

Nothing Firefox has done is remotely comparable to chrome.
Re:Hang on to Your Firefox
on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:31AM (#49533456)
I treat firefox the same way I treat politics. If I am around people I know understand the importance of firefox and are commited to using it then we can talk about its problems. If I am around anyone else I wont say a bad word about firefox. Why would I say a negative thing about firefox to a google chrome user, any point they make is instantly undermined by their usage of google chrome. To sit there and talk badly about firefox just reinforces their resolve in choosing google chrome.
Plus I genuinely like firefox its a great browser and I dont feel bad telling people that its good.

Whats the point of paying for this report if they cant even be bothered to do it. Mistakes in a 425,000 government report are unacceptable. This is what we are basing years of policy off it needs to be rock solid information. In a sane world the NZ government would never contract them again.

Firefox needs word of mouth to grow. It needs tech people and firefox users to talk positively about it. But all they do is nitpick and spread baseless FUD its no wonder users drop.
I always tell people firefox is amazing because it really is. It has cool features, it looks cool, its fast, the company behind it is awesome.
