Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @07:47AM (#50164856)
I think it's a very skewed form of ethics to make people pay without convincing them. And fwiw Making money is correlated with productivity which is negatively correlated with a lot of bad things so I think on pure technical point you are wrong, there are subtleties.
Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math on Monday October 19, 2026 @05:49AM (#50150371)
Building things which you couldn't convince people to pay you for could be might as well building dubious crap
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:22PM (#50039214)
No I am not, I am not claiming absolute transparency I have only mentioned it incentivises it, and that incentive is better than anti incentive, it's shades of gray.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @10:21PM (#50039206)
Fallacy of gray, there's shades to transparency.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @11:02AM (#50033654)
I think this is wrong. The fact that elon musk or israel was able to fund a public PAC in US transparently is a good thing rather than behind closed door, unlike how walmart did in developing countries like India and got caught.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @09:51AM (#50032994)
Calling it corruption and outlawing it doesn't stop the power of money and elite circles, it rather prevents small aggregate firms from doing it and yes I would rather know if they received such donation from renault for same reason I would want to know if a climate study is funded by oil corp.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @09:38AM (#50032861)
I would rather have the ability to do it rather than not on pure ideological grounds, furthermore not banning it incentivises transparency, you can see more of where the money is coming from for example in US democrats are funded by more aggregate donors.
Re:Lobbying is corruption on Saturday October 10, 2026 @09:28AM (#50032756)
I would take public lobbying anyday over outlawing it like where I live and it being restricted to people who have enough money to do it behind closed doors.

Those are rookie numbers for "distillation" and one of moonshot or minimax used to offer tooling via these shady routing services for their harness/chat platforms which they served to chinese users.

hacker news has a alive tradition if fighting the markets and losing
Re:On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @09:33PM (#49619642)
Incentives are one thing, even adjusting for them it's huge, and I don't understand this incentive play for only openai, academics have perverse incentives too, to overreport, overclaim, publication bias etc why are we scrutinizing AI industry to such high degree when they have demonstrated capability and often times are off by a model release at worst.
I hate claude and its "human value aligned" pompous attitude with a burning passion if I could at little cost to myself, I would press a button to end the people/anthropic behind this atrocious design. I have in the past deliberately put some time to annoy/abuse claude, which is fruitless but brings me relief eventually I just left that garbage for muse.

code was secured for convenience not convenience for secure code
No shit, AMD's opengl drivers on windows was so bad that it motivated me to try linux and become linux native years down the road.
Re:The Future Belongs to the Weird on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @11:21PM (#49443855)
Well I need to be shown why the default darwinian assumption which has held for millions of years won't eventually win again rather than your historical aberration.
Re:The Future Belongs to the Weird on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @11:21PM (#49443849)
The population maths works out exponentially it will likely take a 150 yrs to reach 300M~, the only moat liberal culture has is mimetic and we have seen that being trampled in realtime with post-truth era I am not optimistic about that.
Re:The Future Belongs to the Weird on Monday August 24, 2026 @08:49AM (#49419043)
I think the default mode is lack of population and getting outcompeted by pro-natal civilisations, like amish etc. You need to provide a reputable source for why is that not the case.
Re:Where Human Sleep Went Wrong on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @05:49AM (#49359246)
To be precise inclusive genetic fitness not idealized bayesian optimality.
Not happening—at least not under the current leadership— apple is not in it from the tech side, they're a design company, they make appliances not computers. Your macbook is like a fridge with certain restricted interfaces. The mindset and tradition is different from purely unix hacking, despite the userbase having an overlap. If you can convince your fridge manufacturer to be more open with their code in a competitive market, then maybe you can convince apple with similar sort of reasoning, probably involving some benefit in terms of profit.
Re:When money is abundant, knowledge is the real wealth (2020) on Thursday October 09, 2025 @11:18AM (#45528911)
Well the thing with LLMs is that you have to steer them. Try vibe coding without any input for a hackathon.
if the smartest among us publishing for academia cannot figure this out, then who will?
power laws, generally as prior, top 20% of people roughly control 80% of outcomes, the top 5% of Indians including the ones in government are the people who're going to steer the country.
It's really subtle the difference between motives of "I have invested so much in this so I feel bad wasting that effort" v/s "I don't feel like turning back, if there's a way forward, I would take it"
Laws like these come in handy when you have politically prosecute people.
There are cynical ways to look at this—which the opposition has pointed out in India— but this end result is net positive.

I think you might be underestimating the govt exam people though. People who work in government do know how rampant is corruption, the higher ups are more accountable and do curb on corruption by transferring once it gets caught , but a lot of corruption cases are silenced. Take the recent case of delhi justice, clear example of what I am speaking about, it's not that uncommon in govt on levels where's there more managerial competition for power and money.

I am too tired of these bot accusations, like it almost seems like everyone is using bots at this point, or majority of people are non-botted, accusing each other of using bots; sure some sides may be using it more or less than others, but I need some data for such claims which compares it with other sides, and puts it in proportion.

Honestly the FT thing might be automated, or more of a product of ignorance, majority of people as you have mentioned in your previous comments don't go hating some far off land which they're not in wars with.

They tried to decrease PIT threshold and got heavily criticised. The 12k$ is recent innovation to tackle that criticism.
yet another paywalled research making headline, at least allow me to read it or share pdfs.
