Re:Web3/Crypto: Why Bother? on Friday December 31, 2021 @06:25AM (#29746997)
Web3 is just an excuse to still shilling crypto while using it as a payment system has not taken off. They need to hype the next empty buzzwords to keep parade going.
Re:“Play-to-Earn” and Bullshit Jobs on Wednesday December 29, 2021 @05:56AM (#29723723)
Jobs which don' create positive value to the world are not bullshit. Our western economy is mostly based on the meaningless consumption of stupid things. These products have to be marketed and pushed into clients by manufactered believe that they need to buy it. Other part of this are the zero-sum games. Trick people into buying it by introducting artifcial scarcity.
Re:“Play-to-Earn” and Bullshit Jobs on Wednesday December 29, 2021 @05:25AM (#29723552)
I don't see more games utilizing that mechanic, besides some the awful mobile gacha's.
Till the incentive to profiting from and creating a mental health problems nothing will change.
Re:An NFT without a blockchain on Saturday December 18, 2021 @06:25PM (#29609727)
Value of NFTs is purely fictional and based on some buzzwords with a spice of ponzi scheme on top of it. People who are into NFTs don't care about the functionality and usefulness at all. They are pulled to NFTs and shitcoins by a old get rich quick marketing tactics.
Re:Internet addiction and the habit of book reading on Saturday December 18, 2021 @08:05AM (#29604194)
The worrying thing is that mainstream social medias are stopping reading as a form of the content consumption. Videos are becoming shorter and more condensed. It will end badly for brains of the generation raised on tiktok.
Re:No, we didn’t accidentally create a warp bubble on Wednesday December 15, 2021 @01:51PM (#29570087)
Sounds like a normal day in the science journalism. The same case was with the ""earth-like planets"" headlines even though some were unconfirmed and the only data known about them was their orbit, mass to a certain degree and star, which in most cases was small and very active. In the media outlets there weren't any information about the host star and the fact that most of those planets were tidally locked. Besides all of that, they were still calling them earth-like planets.
Re:NASA spacecraft ‘touches’ the Sun for the first time ever on Wednesday December 15, 2021 @08:41AM (#29565739)
Humanity at its finest.
People generally underestimate how hard is to settle mars comparing to moon. Getting there is the easiest part. Entirely sustainable colony on its own have never been achiewed before. Projects like biosphere2 failed miserably. On current nasa budget even 2030's are even out of reach for a self sustaining colony. Hundreds of bilions are needed. It eon't happen without big push.
Re:Facebook exec blames society for COVID misinformation on Monday December 13, 2021 @02:36PM (#29543471)
So the biggest obstacle to solving anything about this world is stupidity of the general population. People can't stop choosing the most stupid things with their wallets and attention.
Re:Marketing is scary for a solo developer on Monday December 13, 2021 @02:31PM (#29543411)
Marketers are people without morals, probably most of them can be classified as a high functioning sociopaths. Developers are realistic and mostly care about product being as good as possible. In the terms of marketing product isn't that important but rather finding the biggest market which implies telling fantastical stories to naive people. These modes of thinking are entirely opposite of each other.
Re:The Matrix Is Unreal on Sunday December 12, 2021 @09:42PM (#29535980)
The most impressive thing is the scale of the city and amount of traffic. In other games you feel that buildings are way too small and every object is placed by hand for convenience to a player. This tech demo nailed the feeling of a livable metropolis.
Re:The Strange, Unfinished Saga of Cyberpunk 2077 on Sunday December 12, 2021 @12:30PM (#29531535)
This game was marketed not as a coherent game but as a mix of the best tropes from rpg's and open world genre. That's why they only showed one faked vertical slice and development for that have been scrapped and restarted from scratch. Scope creep and false too good to be true marketing destroyed this game.
Re:“Open source” is not broken on Sunday December 12, 2021 @12:10PM (#29531339)
In general, society has problems with monetization of valuable things. It's not only the case with FOSS, it's also holds true with science and a long term not quarterly counted products development. Sadly vile entertainment and advertising is perfectly monetized.
Re:As an investor, why is crypto so hard to value? on Sunday December 12, 2021 @10:41AM (#29530455)
The value comes from targeted marketing at the get rich quick sensitive individuals. Most of the regular folks now know about bitcoin as the form of making money from the sky. Add to that cynical views of a financial market and you will get that 2t$.
Re:Why the demographic transition is speeding up on Sunday December 12, 2021 @10:32AM (#29530380)
There are many factors in the play here. Regular people can't afford good upbringing for a kid and even if money isn't a problem dystopian vision of the future clearly prevent from making that choice.
Re:Internet uptake has accelerated during the pandemic on Sunday December 12, 2021 @10:18AM (#29530258)
Sadly 99% of traffic is from facebook and other corporate sites. These users miss usefulness of the internet.
