Re:Don't Let Anyone Take Away Your Big Box of Cables on Friday September 11, 2026 @04:31AM (#49655209)
i bought a few loads of nice quality plastic boxes, with plastic lids (its got small handles that "clasp" around the lid, so they're almost air tight)

then i sorted my cables and printed out a normal piece of paper, with the text like "networking", or "PC cables" or whatever and placed that in the side of the boxes

then i can stack them in the basement and easily know which box i need, when i need a cable

its been super handy.

ive used the same trick, for same boxes, for our other storage boxes too. Wifes hobby items, christmas decorations, old consoles, or whatever

makes it super organized. (you need transparent boxes if you wanna just throw in a label print on the inside. i can place one on top of the items and i can see it from above, or either side of the box)

Re:Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B on Thursday August 27, 2026 @01:09AM (#49460022)
of course it is

works fine for now

whats nvidia gonna do except make it worse?

usually buyouts go something like this:

1 buy company

2 fire various people

3 enshittify

hugging face even said they didnt want to accept a 500 million dollar investment from nvidia, because they didnt want nvidia to run the ship.

instead they sell it... guess who'll run the ship?

https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/24/hugging-face-reportedly-in...

ok but power consumption??
> The uBlock filter fixed it.

what filter ?

Re:Europe's resistance to AC is driving it insane on Monday June 29, 2026 @12:10PM (#48721100)
I can live without AC, because i'd only 'need' it, for a couple of weeks in the year... and i doubt it'll be worth it tbh
https://simonw.github.io/moebius-web/

choose "samlple image" or upload something

then mark something with the mouse (and press 'run inpaint') and it'll work a bit and try to hide it, sorta like that "magic eraser" some newer android phones have

If i recall, Toyota have said they'll make a car with solid state batteries, in 2027

ok maybe 28.

https://electrek.co/2025/10/08/toyota-aims-to-launch-worlds-...

they have tested this on the roads.

In Denmark i currently have to enter my card details but then, i get a popup where i have to enter my government issued ID username and scan a QR code from the related app (or enter from a 2fa token generator)

Its annoying - but it feels quite secure

half budget

double productivity

4 x 'value'

so he wants AI written slop

i hope this ends badly

Re:Do not download the app, use the website on Friday July 25, 2025 @08:09PM (#44690005)
I prefer having as few apps as possible

so using the web is my go-to

i dont have reddit, on my phone for example.

Also, all those app icons are just "advertisement" every time you look at your phone screen... i dont need that.

if you REQUIRE me to use an app, then i'm only using it if i absolutely have to. (there's almost always an alternative)

As a non-american...

i'd prefer taiwan over the US...

Re:YouTube Won the Battle for TV Viewers on Wednesday July 23, 2025 @07:44PM (#44665281)
For me...

TV costs money

Youtube is free... and i can block the ads

it doesnt matter

it's faster

thats what matters

"physical" datacenter ?

whats the alternative? a datacenter that exists only in my imagination?

Why would having games on steam be the same as a person being an incest-child molester?
I disagree. there shouldnt be any taboos for pixels on a screen

i mean, i can understand a child porn game would be disallowed but we already have anime games where characters that look like children are nearly naked

and never children.
Re:Bypassing Google's big anti-adblock update on Sunday July 13, 2025 @11:22AM (#44551061)
Let's not forget, you'll have to ditch Chromium based applications too, like discord, VScode, spotify, and whatever else is basically a chrome browser.
Re:Repaste Your MacBook (But Don't) on Friday July 11, 2025 @01:46PM (#44535064)
someone made a youtube video not too long ago (i think was that guy who made the 3rd party ssd upgrade kits?) he said that apple uses a special type of thermal paste... not that its some super awesome unique product, it's just that its not a paste in the typical sense, like you'd use on a GPU or CPU. It's more like a "putty".
If your teenager often talks about suicide, there could be some issue that needs to be resolved.

Sincerely the child of a parent who committed suicide. He mentioned suicide a few days before.

Re:I deleted my second brain on Saturday June 28, 2025 @02:28AM (#44402670)
the thing with such a system is keeping it up to date

you have to spend SO MUCH time writing notes... and since you might put in everything you've thought to do, in there, you also have to go back and read it again, to find it?

seems like a very time consuming process

i personally write down details for a few topics, in my notes, and then i tend to forget the small details, and use my brain to remember the big scope(s). then i can return to my notes for tiny details later, if needed.

most of the time though, i tend to never return.

and so i ended up just not writing notes anymore. it ends up being too much to look through, or too much to be worth the time.

gotta find that sweet spot i guess, but thats not easy either.

Re:Harper – an open-source alternative to Grammarly on Saturday June 21, 2025 @05:19AM (#44335994)
Great to hear

i honestly don't trust grammarly ... i mean, its essentially a keylogger.

i did try it a bit once, and i never seem to have it work that well for me. But i am multilingual so maybe thats part of my hurdle
