Chinese domain squatters strike again lol.
You're technically right that a plate is 90 lbs on the bar, but generally for one plate you're referring specifically to 135 lbs because you'd include the eight of the bar.
Starting Strength, now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. It used to be a go-to recommendation in fitness communities for beginners about 10 years ago, but you won't see it recommended much anymore. It's not a great program and it wastes a lot of your time and effort for results that aren't great. Over the last 10 years I've tried a lot of different LP programs with beginner level lifters and something like GZCLP is a MUCH better program for beginners.
Re:Passwordless: a different kind of hell? on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @10:52AM (#39029367)
It depends on the set of credentials. Your primary email address, your access to 1Password, things of that nature can and should be stored in a 2FA app on another device. But the majority of 2FA codes for most websites are fine to be stored in your password manager. This way you can enable 2FA on every site you use, without the inconvenience, but you can reserve the extra security of a second device for services that would be critical failure points for you.

You keep saying "See the forest from the trees". It's "See the forest for the trees"
Re:Exploring Self-Hosted Email Services on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @02:43PM (#38535944)
You can do that without self hosting email though. I use a custom domain with ProtonMail. I could potentially lose access to my emails stored on their servers, but getting my email address back up and running is just a matter of changing a DNS record.
It's not as bad as all that. The stuff you control at home doesn't have to support hundreds/thousands/millions of end users, it's just for you, and it doesn't need to be publicly accessible. We're talking quarterly maintenance at most.
Re:Show HN: "Awesome" Engineering Games (List) on Monday November 20, 2023 @12:09PM (#38350693)
Satisfactory does often feel feature-complete, they could release the game as-is and I don't think it would feel particularly unfinished.

However it is unfinished by virtue of the fact that they have a lot more planned, and it's early access by virtue of having resources in the world with "WIP" in their tool tips.

If you'd prefer a path of greatest hits, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are probably the titles you'll see recommended most often. Spirited Away being a sort of coming of age story filled more with a sense of wonder, whereas Princess Mononoke is a violent story centered around the complex struggle between man and nature, as is closer to a traditional fantasy setting if that's your bag.
Re:Daylight saving time can seriously affect your health on Monday November 06, 2023 @03:00PM (#38168055)
So does the article, which is not named accurately. It says "Daylight saving time can seriously affect your health" and then goes on to explain how it's actually non-daylight savings time that affects your health.
Re:Mass producing the most expensive rice cooker [video] on Monday November 06, 2023 @11:05AM (#38164371)
If it's your first time using it, you'll probably read the manual which will contain a table of general cook times. I just used a rice cooker with no screen for the first time and I had no problem with its lack of UI.

Who goes to a dealer for service?
Re:Cars are a 'privacy nightmare on wheels' on Tuesday October 17, 2023 @01:19PM (#37918325)
Mazdas have a community project you can flash onto a USB drive and insert into your car and it can disable a lot of that nonsense. I used it years ago to load android auto onto my Mazda 3's infotainment system that didn't support it. Also removed all the startup pop ups, and the touch screen limitations.
Re:ForgeFed on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @02:09PM (#37395560)
Forgejo is just Gitea with extra features potentially extra bolted on top.
Re:RIP, WordPad on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @01:16PM (#37394887)
Notepad++ maybe?
Re:WordPad will be removed in a future release of Windows on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @01:06PM (#37394740)
That was Notepad, which will continue to live on. WordPad was the one that DIDN'T screw everything up.
Re:Hahaha We Live in Hell on Tuesday August 22, 2023 @03:37PM (#37227554)
You're not wrong, but you should know that the "kids system" are just mens sizes. Womens sizes are the outlier.
I’ve recently come to find out that my wife has been signing documents using Snapchat for years and has evidently never once had a problem.
Re:You're doing two-factor authentication wrong on Wednesday June 21, 2023 @02:35PM (#36422470)
You buy a new phone and continue using your TOTP app / password manager and continue with your life.
Re:You're doing two-factor authentication wrong on Wednesday June 21, 2023 @01:40PM (#36421780)
I mean you still benefit from TOTP if it's in your password manager. That still means that if you're password is stolen, they can't get in without you being on an authorized device.
Re:Guide to Finding Lemmy Communities (Subreddits) on Tuesday June 13, 2023 @10:30AM (#36310736)
Discord is already a megacorporate nightmare, it really is only a matter of time. It's also just... nothing like Reddit at all
Re:Cities: Skylines II [video] on Monday June 12, 2023 @12:51PM (#36296619)
It’s published by Paradox Interactive, of course they are. We’ll be lucky if we even have that day/night cycle on release.
Mastadon's is as well. Like it's cool that you can follow somebody if you already know their handle, but the discovery aspect of social media is at least half the point of it. Without some form of mechanism holding everything together, it's never going to be a great experience.
I renew my AHA BLS cert every other year as a requirement for my EMT certification. You do breathing when you have a second rescuer available to do compressions.
For 1), if by "traumatic" you mean "bodily trauma" then it's actually the opposite. If your heart stops due to bodily trauma, it does so as a result of other problems like a lack of blood volume, or something physically impairing your body's ability to oxygenate, none of which are improved by CPR.
Re:Nostr – Decentralized Social Network on Monday May 01, 2023 @11:39AM (#35774360)
That's a huge benefit over social media projects like Mastodon, which lack discovery features entirely.
Re:Bed Bath and Beyond Files for Bankruptcy on Tuesday April 25, 2023 @01:04PM (#35703404)
Not sure what you mean, most if not all department stores today sell small kitchen appliances and supplies. From Target and Walmart to Macys
Self hosting something like Gitea and mirroring to that is a good solution to this.
Re:The 2012 Millennium Artifact on Tuesday January 31, 2023 @12:35PM (#34598385)
You could at least like, get a nice fire safe box for it lol.
Re:You're using function keys wrong on Wednesday January 04, 2023 @10:13AM (#34246418)
I've never seen a keyboard that does this. Just took a look around the office to confirm.
