Apparently, the British royal family came to the realization a couple of decades ago that it was not an adequate way of avoiding drama anymore.

> With a less deferential and increasingly aggressive media landscape, the strategy of "Never complain, never explain" was abandoned by Prince Charles (the future King Charles III) and his wife Diana, Princess of Wales, in the 1990s.

Pluto is Mickey Mouse's pet and is not anthropomorhic. Not to be confused with Goofy that is an anthropomorphic dog and Mickey's friend.

I think the point is that in the "age of AI" virtually nobody will have the opportunity to follow a career and produce works like Strogatz was able to do.

Poems, then BeOS,

then a model named for both.

Same name, three lives.

People with headphones looking absentmindedly straight ahead doing their best not to focus on anything, isolating themselves as much as possible to make the complete lack of personal space more bearable.

This is already what crowded subways in my city look like when you pass the threshold where people are too cramped to browse their phones. This is not a bad thing, just a coping mechanism.

I think there is much more room for behavior change if you consider people at a table (coffee or restaurant) with and without phones suitable for continuous media consumption or social network interactions.

Whenever I hear it, it is pronounced "keuro" (k-uh-RO). And "meuro" (m-uh-RO) for millions that are Mega-euros (M€).
Re:L'Affaire Siloxane on Thursday June 11, 2026 @03:16AM (#48487305)
Historically, a "brique" used to be a million of anciens Francs (old Francs), then converted to 10 000 nouveaux Francs (new Francs) in 1960.

Since the switch to euro, I think the most commonly accepted value of one "brique" is (unofficially) 10 000 €, but the uncertainty makes it basically useless.

Re:Inside Nepal's Fake Rescue Racket on Thursday April 02, 2026 @11:39AM (#47615933)
I went to Nepal two years ago. The standard insurance of my Mastercard Gold specifically excluded medical assistance/transportation for acute altitude sickness from the coverage (and rescue operators are reluctant to intervene without proof of proper insurance coverage).

As a precaution (having read about it on forums) I had taken an additional insurance from a French shop specialized in hiking and mountaineering (le Vieux Campeur) to cover more events.

Good thing I did because I ended up having to be evacuated for something that was initially considered as acute altitude sickness and turned out to be a lot more life threatening once in the hospital.

That's a nice sentiment, but do you have sources for the claim that tribes universally "loved" non-productive members just because they were kin?

Re:What podcasts are you listening to? on Thursday February 26, 2026 @08:39AM (#47165942)
Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, primarily for the segments with the staff that often descend into madness and then sometimes for the celebrity interviews. And a bunch of podcasts in French that I doubt anymore would care about.

Masayoshi Son may not be providing returns for its investors but he is providing entertainment for the rest of the world.
