Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @11:31AM (#50317089)
What's unique in this scenario (I'm from Serbia) is that these elected guys didn't form a political movement, they weren't actively involved.

What happened is that students created a list of 250 people and vetted them.

So far they did an absolutely amazing job. There are LOT of potentially malicious actors from academia but so far looks like they did a good job at excluding them.

So those 250 people (not all of them are academics, only like half or so, maybe less) were chosen by students and they accepted.

So far, the whole movement and those people from the list haven't made a single mistake; and that's why they got 53% in election. And not ordinary election, these ones were marked by almost complete media blackout and outright lies (e.g. media claiming students are beating women, to give you an idea of what kind of lies).

Anyway, of course, we'll see.

The biggest focus right now for pretty much everyone is putting people in handcuffs, and I don't imagine much of ideological differences on that topic.

Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @08:02AM (#50315305)
And they won't, system in Serbia is still the same - they will form ministries and prime minister leading them.

They will choose who will that be by a committee, but after that they have to function as usual.

The celebration that ensued was out of this world.

Eruption of celebration, people screaming from windows, playing music, blocking the streets - overall a night long frenzy throughout whole Belgrade.

Re:DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @09:57AM (#50166554)
That’s why we will probably see Fable 5.5 this evening.

US companies are throwing money at the problem, and considering how good Opus 5.5 is I’m not too concerned about them.

Of course they are.
> their refineries have been blown up and their diesel will only last 6 months.

They literally just struck a deal with the US to export diesel, and Trump has been pressuring Ukraine (most recently by disabling Starlink) into not attacking refineries in Russia. Like, situation is the opposite of what you're saying.

EDIT: To be clearer in case you need it.

As they agreed to export means they definitely have for more than 6 months (and I believe 6 months claim is naive at best.).

And as US is pressuring Ukraine to not attack refineries means they'll be safe.

I literally did that with Opus today and it did a great job.

I told it to strip screenshots from our old basic explainer video to generate modern 3D video.

Pretty happy with the result. I told it to keep the audio and match the video and it did.

Re:In Ukraine, distributed renewables foil Russia's assaults on Sunday October 04, 2026 @08:45AM (#49953458)
Its not even more secure, Russia didn't conquer Kiev and Harkov because they're huge. They were only able to take on smaller cities and towns.

Noise.

When problems with AI investments become a problem the stock market will already communicate it, news will report it after the fact, not before.

I was on edge for last few months, but made a decision recently to not give another dollar to Anthropic.

It’s so obvious they’re playing safety card to get politicians to reign down on individual’s freedoms.

Could you shoot us the github gist?
However, wouldn’t you want to be able to set a higher price is someone is obviously drunk (in a bad way).
Re:True Rate of Unemployment on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:37AM (#49533511)
I looked it up and I have to correct myself.

So EU/Eurostat has surveys, Serbia does too (I’m from Serbia).

However most countries have also national way of determining the rate that works how I described, and they may differ quite a lot from Eurostat.

I guess EU introduced surveys with Eurostat so countries don’t juke the stats.

For example

- Denmark computes net unemployment straight from benefit and PES registers — administrative coverage is complete enough to do it without asking anyone. It still runs an LFS for the ILO figure. - Germany, Austria, Poland, Czechia, Spain publish monthly registered counts that dominate domestic debate, exactly the way NSZ figures circulate in Serbia. Each uses its own national definition, so none is comparable across borders. - Finland keeps a register series noticeably above its LFS count, similar in shape to the NSZ/ARS gap.

Re:True Rate of Unemployment on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @02:26AM (#49532461)
I my country you have to regularly check in with the bureau for unemployment to be included in the stats, even though that bureau hadn’t found a job for anyone ever.

I assume that’s how it works in many other countries.

Unemployed is the one actively looking for a job, not the one that’s just to working. At least that’s how governments seem to look at it, and their way of figuring out who’s looking is incorrect.

Re:Denmark: EVs Make Up 97% of New Private Car Sales in July on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @08:42AM (#49168007)
Audi sells 48V diesel mild hybrids, at least where I’m from they make the majority of their sales.
Same way Russia ran out of missiles 3 years ago?
Re:Denmark: EVs Make Up 97% of New Private Car Sales in July on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @03:21AM (#49165333)
How are diesel cars with a battery counted?

Cars under VAG sell TDI engines with a small battery and call it a hybrid.

No they don’t, you’re lying through your teeth.

No they aren’t, stop lying.

Re:A migrant surge tests Spain's open policies on Saturday August 01, 2026 @04:19AM (#49132286)
This whole concept of you having to accommodate people illegally entering, or in this case, storming your border is so alien to me.

Once a force of 60k men violently break into your country your duty is to start shooting, instead they had Spanish citizens have to bar their house doors and windows with couches and tremble in fear. Completely insane.

Should children have the right to commit assisted suicide?

DHH is absolutely correct. Someone thinking differently just didn't have an experience. Buy hey, it's so nice to hop on that high horse.

Re:Escape IntelliJ: Scala and Kotlin LSPs on Emacs Eglot on Thursday July 23, 2026 @07:09AM (#49019688)
People will go to great lengths to avoid paying for what is, arguably, an outstanding product from a great company, then think nothing of spending the same amount at Starbucks.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a company scrutinized and nitpicked as much as JetBrains.

This is purely a gut feeling, but it seems like more compute was added to data centers in the past 12 months than existed in the entire world before that.
The lenders will then just report missed payments as revenue on their books.
That will definitely help their car industry.
Re:We Are the Last People Who Know How It Works on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @05:48PM (#48739683)
The problem here is, you might be right, it makes sense. But, make it more approachable. Tell people why you think that, elaborate. Don't assume everyone is on the same page.
Re:Claude Sonnet 5 – benchmark results on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @05:12PM (#48739256)
I feel like they repackaged Opus, slightly nerfed it, and reduced price per token.

A release just to have a headline while Fable situation is getting resolved.

So you’re accusing me of abhorrent acts based on what I said?

Did you think of that word salad yourself or you copied it from somewhere?

So you’re being extremely unjust by accusing me of something while presenting yourself on the moral high ground? Checks out.
