Re:SOML – A Config Format for Humans on Monday November 02, 2026 @04:44PM (#50344260)
I found out about this format because of PowerShell DSC (the Microsoft equivalent of Ansible). The format itself is very neat, but the `Import-PowerShellDataFile` cmdlet is absolutely unhelpful at showing you where the error is if it cannot parse the PSD1 file.

Because of the DRAM shortage, not anytime soon. But if you’re willing to pay for inference somewhere else, Deepseek Flash 4.1 is good enough [1]. It might be going to be extra cheaper soon, too [2].

This knowledge has always been present in the product’s documentation. What you needed for learning is a chatbot, not general-purpose probabilistic automation which acts as a conversation simulator.

Challenging US dominance by implementing your European payment platform on AWS? Weird take…
Re:Show HN: Avoid smooth spinners, use low-FPS spinners on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:25PM (#49850757)
Mozilla employees up until recently (2024), and research literature, seem to be calling them throbbers as well.

Anecdotally, I’ve only ever heard non-frontend developers call them “spinners”.

Maybe starting a discussion on the articles’ talk page could elicit some change? Language evolves, after all.

Re:Show HN: Avoid smooth spinners, use low-FPS spinners on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:31AM (#49843100)
That is how language works.
Ask your favorite LLM to write an overlay for whichever package you need patches applied for before they hit Nixpkgs.
Re:Show HN: Avoid smooth spinners, use low-FPS spinners on Friday September 25, 2026 @05:08AM (#49841973)
Those aren’t spinners (also called numeric updowns, see [1]). Those are throbbers (also called loading icons, see [2]).

Re:Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @11:05AM (#49817283)
Nope! Claude is even able to understand AsciiDoc just fine (which is a blessing). But it will always insist on the Markdown extension.
Re:Why does mathmain need an encrypted loader? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @05:19AM (#49798458)
There are plenty of programs on Git forges which aim at not using dependencies. We do not need to wait centuries for it to happen.

In this instance, the system worked as designed. Phone got wiped after too many incorrect PIN inputs.

I use Hetzner and Bunny too. What does Coolify do in this instance?

Re:GamersNexus and LG: Or why rooting your TV is a bad idea on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @03:44AM (#49606906)
Not disclosing a vulnerability you found to the manufacturer (while the product can still hopefully be patched) is “not responsible”. I think that’s what the person is trying to say.
Re:I Changed My License on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:02AM (#49595341)
How is it “the best”? It’s inapplicable in any jurisdiction which guarantees authors cannot give away their moral rights. So literally any other license which requires attribution is better than CC-0 in that case, for instance.
This gets posted literally moments before I was about to pay them after ditching Claude. Thank you! I hate data collection in paid products.

I think I will be using Kagi Ultimate for the inference UI, so the data is somewhat anonymized before being collected.

This exact issue is why I have been paying for my e-mails for the last 5 years.

Re:That's a Lot of YAML on Friday August 28, 2026 @05:23AM (#49476285)
I also wonder why it’s the 2012 version of the language which gets all the hate, instead of the hate being directed at Google, who doesn’t care about putting resources towards updating the main offender, Kubernetes’ YAML 1.1 parser. https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/34146#issuec...
It is vibe-coded. Consider it is public domain. If it isn’t, ask your favorite LLM to launder this project so it is licensed under your own terms.

Re:Feature Request: Support AGENTS.md on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @07:07PM (#49368327)
While I agree with your analysis, I think Hanlon’s razor applies here – CLAUDE.md has probably just been hardcoded, the same way “master” used to be the hardcoded default in Git. If it was for advertising, Claude would equally recognize CLAUDE.adoc, CLAUDE.txt or CLAUDE files.
Re:Using the railway network as a flatbed scanner on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @01:23PM (#49349132)
Is there something wrong with the pictures in the second half of the article? It seems like they are taking forever to load (about 30 seconds each), one at a time. I’m on mobile (iOS).

Re:Show HN: Smarter Shell History for Zsh on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @12:37PM (#49275122)
It’s fun to see the difference between the LLMs (or between the LLM and the person) before and after commit `3c275fdˋ. The project switches from big diffs with commit messages on day one, to smaller diffs with no commit messages besides the summary on day two (today).

Good idea though, I’ll ask Claude to make me the same but without the `fzf` dependency – Zsh’s “ZLE” is powerful enough.

Re:Dithered QR Codes on Monday August 10, 2026 @03:53AM (#49240645)
Using their logo in this way is probably a trademark violation, so they would be able to get your QR code “for free” (minus the costs involved with consulting their legal division).
This has been a solved problem for at least two decades. Use ASN.1 and choose your encoding rules accordingly: JER when you need JSON, XER when you need XML, and switch to BER/DER when you need to reduce transfer costs.
