The rest of this persons feed is jam-packed with ludicrously pretentious photos of people posing in expensive clothing in ways clearly carefully chosen to appear spontaneous, uploaded to the internet for attention. The irony.
Alcoholism.

Would highly recommend a penetration test for these.

No changes have been made to the intake, it's the aero package. From the horse's mouth:

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.f1-rules-and-regu...

"What’s the change: A wider, higher – and much simplified – front wing

Why has it been made: To help chasing drivers follow the car in front more closely - and in turn increase the possibility of overtaking."

My understanding is that the wash from old designs would reduce downforce for cars that follow, which in turn would slow them down and make it harder to overtake. This made for less interesting racing.

The new regulations are intended to promote overtaking. Teams of course are trying to maximize downforce within the new regulations.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @03:34AM (#15720231)
You may very well be right. The Mission E is closer to a Panamera than a 911.

Regardless, very interesting to watch the competition heat up.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @03:13AM (#15720116)
I await Tesla's foray into serious racing with bated breath. I'm sure Porsche and Audi are terrified.

If they gave a shit about developing actual performance EVs, I'd expect them to be in Formula E, but they're not. BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche are.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @03:03AM (#15720057)
F1 cars accelerate faster than the Roadster's advertised numbers and the drivers don't wander around constantly concussed.

I am curious how you managed to get a concussion in a heavy sedan that can only maintain 0.87g of lateral grip. Were you in a collision?

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @03:00AM (#15720039)
Porsche has already pulled out of WEC (Le Mans, Rolex 24 Hours) in favour of Formula E and is planning to release a electric vehicle by 2019. My bet is that they're going to get an electric performance vehicle on the road way before Tesla.

Moreover, what does this mean to Tesla? Competitors with decades of manufacturing experience cranking out reliable, fast electric vehicles with likely better build quality might pose an interesting problem.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @02:56AM (#15720016)
I think he's referring to the fact that Model S's are known to overheat and go into limp mode when pushed hard at the track.

Not necessarily applicable to this particular vehicle.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday November 17, 2017 @02:54AM (#15720008)
Porsche has hundreds of millions of dollars of R&D poured into the 919 hybrid Le Mans Prototype, which I imagine will translate to the Mission E. Tesla has no such experience.

Same way you tell a rectal thermometer from an oral thermometer - by the taste.

Likewise. That channel might be the most Canadian thing ever to exist - got a little homesick just watching it.
Re:It's Never Too Late to Learn Guitar on Monday August 14, 2017 @12:30PM (#15009946)
The best "app" I've tried is a digital recorder and a metronome.

My process: Play slowly until you think you've nailed it. Listen to the recording, realize you didn't. Fix the parts that sound bad. Repeat until you actually nail it. Increase the metronome by 10%. Repeat until you're slightly faster than performance speed. Back off and playing at performance speed will sbe easy.

Yes, I am aware. One of the benefits of single-payer is the reduction in cost of administration.

There are other effects as well - nobody is getting away with billing $600 for a 5 minute visit, for instance.

Yeah, it won't work. It works in every other developed nation in the world, and they all pay less money for better healthcare outcomes, but hey, the US is Totally Special.
Nope! Was unaware of the project before you mentioned it. Looks like it might have similar goals.
Not sure if you're interested in such things, but I've written a Python data acquisition framework (and a shitty GUI for my RaspPi) that works with those cheapo $10 dongles that I'll be releasing under the MIT license as soon as I can be bothered.

Main reason I haven't released it yet is that the connection management, while quite resilient, is so hackish that I am bit embarrassed by it.

Single-payer seems like it'd incentivize preventative medicine.

I'm currently working on the Eudyptula Challenge, which has been interesting so far and is Linux-specific.

The creatively-named book Linux Kernel Development by Robert Love is also good.

I have had a similar problem - interviewed dozens of people with exactly that pattern and they were universally clueless. No idea how seemingly-good Masters programs bring in so many people with zero basic CS knowledge.

Warfangle is correct, I was warned specifically about this when I started treatment. When you go on an SSRI, your fatigue lifts before your mood does, which can lead to a few dangerous weeks.
Re:The Advantage of Abundant Thinking on Wednesday April 20, 2016 @04:04AM (#11532920)
Interestingly enough, this is the same routine I've had recommended in AA (minus the exercise, it's an old program).

Wake up, immediate meditation/prayer and a gratitude list.

Only things missing is contemplating what you need to do today to be a better person at the beginning of the day and reflecting on what you did well and could've done better when you go to sleep.

An excerpt from the portion referred to as "On Awakening":

"When we retire at night, we constructively review our day. Were we resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid? Do we owe an apology? Have we kept something to ourselves which should be discussed with another person at once? Were we kind and loving toward all? What could we have done better? Were we thinking of ourselves most of the time? Or were we thinking of what we could do for others, of what we could pack into the stream of life? But we must be careful not to drift into worry, remorse or morbid reflection, for that would diminish our usefulness to others. After making our review we ask God's forgiveness and inquire what corrective measures should be taken."

Re:CaptionBot by Microsoft on Wednesday April 13, 2016 @03:00PM (#11491161)
Pretty impressive - gave it a few profile photos and it did suprisingly well, correctly identifying "A couple walking on a beach at sunset," "a man looking out a window", etc.

It struggled with wildlife photos - a pack of arctic wolves was "a sheep standing in the snow", and penguins swimming was "a bird flying over a body of water" (close but no cigar).

From Googling "federal public housing funding 1980s", the very first link states:

"In his first year in office Reagan halved the budget for public housing and Section 8 to about $17.5 billion. And for the next few years he sought to eliminate federal housing assistance to the poor altogether."

From the Wikipedia article entitled "Public housing in the United States", which has a section specifically about the period of time in question:

"Under the Reagan administration, household contribution towards Section 8 rents was increased to 30% of household income and fair market rents were lowered. Public assistance for housing efforts was reduced as part of a package of across the board cuts."

I am not an American and don't know the history of American federal program funding, but I do have access to things that let me search for things. You should try it.

Re:Jeff Bezos’ letter to shareholders on Friday April 08, 2016 @03:39AM (#11453169)
Yeah, obvious window-dressing is obvious.

Bezos does not give a flying fuck about the wellbeing of his workers, both in the warehouse and in engineering.

I left Canada not too long ago. With the current exchange rate, my base here in SV is 350% of what I made in Canada for a much less stressful job. When you take the absurd RSU grant I'm getting into account, my estimated take home for the year is going to be nearly 10x that of my total Canadian compensation. The cost of living in SV is higher, but it is not THAT much higher.

The problem is that they just don't pay enough to compete. I'd move home in a heartbeat, but I won't work for a decade there for what I can make in a year here.
