Yeah, you are clearly not worth the oxygen you consume.

Anyone who comes to the US legally with appropriate paperwork can work or start their own business. Literally Elon Musk among many other entrepreneurs.

What you are arguing for is entering the country or overstaying illegally. Illegal aliens are lawbreakers and do not enjoy any Constitutional protections nor guarantees relating to liberty or pursuit of happiness. Depending on what further crimes they might commit they could also forfeit their right to life.

If you can't or won't have the common decency to enter and stay in the country properly, don't complain when you get your ass arrested, charged, and jailed or deported back to wherever you came from. That is legal justice as stipulated in the Constitution, recently strengthened and re-emphasized with the Laken Riley Act.

>It thought you were going to explain how "woke" is a bad thing

Discrimination such as racism and sexism are bad things.

>you give me two links to the current fascist White House propaganda

If "serving every person with equal dignity and respect", "reward individual initiative, skills, performance, and hard work", and "prevent the hiring of individuals based on their race, sex, or religion" are "fascist propaganda" then you need help.

>a link about a video game which is... related how to woke/progress or conservative/fascism?

Concord died in incredibly quick fashion due to focusing way too much on woke policies instead of making a good game.

Also, you need help because you are clearly indoctrinated. Wokeism is not Progressive and Conservatism is not Fascism.

Of course, why wouldn't I? So long as would-be immigrants obey the law they are quite welcome.

That's because your source video is crap.

I'm not sure if you realize it, but all forms of digital media playback are streaming. Yes, even that MP4 stored locally on your SSD. There is literally no difference between "playing" that MP4 and "streaming" a Youtube or Netflix video.

Yes, even playing an 8K Blu-Ray video is still streaming.

>Conversely, if you think women are equally capable, then you must think that the hiring discrepancy is not justified by competency. If you get this far, then it follows that there is a huge opportunity for increasing the pool of competent leaders by requiring 50/50.

Competency (or more generally merit) is not measured in penises and vaginas.

A forced 50/50 men/women mandate implies that one or the other are not as capable without outside "assistance". That is sexism and rude as all hell.

True equality is accepting all applicants regardless of penises or vaginas and ranking them by their merit and taking however many you need or want from the top down. True equality is being absolutely blind to equity factors like race and sex unless that is directly relevant.

The only time you should care about vaginas is if you're, say, running medical trials that concern breast cancer. Penises and vaginas are utterly irrelevant in the course of serving as a director on a corporate board.

>Trump's confusion and rambling is broadcast across the world, and mocked across the world

One of the things that helped Trump win the election was his three hours long unedited interview with Joe Rogan. It was amazing to see a former President and current Presidential candidate sit down with a common Joe Average (FSVO average) and just have bog ordinary conversations on a wide variety of topics that common Americans can relate to. Trump even explained why he rambles ("weaves stories") like he does.

Harris meanwhile couldn't speak her way out of a teleprompter.

A leader needs to be able to communicate effectively, it's a core part of whether you're charismatic or not and Trump is one of the greatest speakers ever: He speaks with a simple vocabulary because his audience are common citizens, he gets right to the point because he understands time is valuable. He talks to the American people in their language, plain English; not Washingtonese or legalese.

HRC's failure was the way she spoke (Washingtonese) and conducted herself came off like she was a used car salesman. Nobody likes used car salesmen. It also did not help that the DNC, whether merely perceived or in actual fact, forced Sanders out which alienated a significant portion of the Democrat electorate.

Harris failed because she simply could not communicate and further refused to communicate, hoping that she would win because she is an Indian-Black Woman with a sob story. She is perhaps the best example of so-called "DEI hires": She was chosen for VP and then Presidential candidate both times because she checked off many equity boxes, not because she demonstrated competency in a fair showdown (primaries, all of which she lost dead last).

Re:US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit on Thursday February 13, 2025 @01:50AM (#43033360)
Quite literally any country with a government worth talking about controls entry of foreign nationals. It is a privilege to enter another country as a foreigner, and that country has every sovereign right to deny you that privilege if they so choose for any reason (usually citing their laws).

The fact that you ignore this demonstrates your bad will in engaging in these conversations.

Re:What happens to your online accounts when you die? on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @09:29PM (#43032054)
At the risk of possibly sounding crass, the practical solution is to simply never tell them of the decedent's passing.

Unless the matter of concern is a legal or financial one (eg: bank accounts, pensions, insurance, etc.), quite literally nothing and nobody else requires knowledge that the account holder passed away.

Never tell Valve that your gamer dad passed away and they will be none the wiser and noone will have any problems as you "inherit" his account and its associated games. You're not trying to defraud Social Security as a 150 year old, after all (...right?).

You might be interested to know that the Managing Director of the Fukuoka Stock Exchange was arrested yesterday[1][2] on allegations that he took upskirt shots of schoolgirls. He was caught because his tablet's camera emitted the mandatory shutter sound.

Laws like this serve primarily to deter casual criminals and catch patently stupid criminals which are the vast majority of cases. In this case it took a presumable sexual predator off the streets, which is a great application of the law.

The rejection of woke ideals goes well beyond the US. The Japanese people also hate elements of woke getting into their culture and they don't even speak English.

You might be interested to learn that Trump's cabinet has at least 9 women, one of whom was the Governor of South Dakota, another who was an Attorney-General of Florida, and another who is a reserve duty Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army.

Most Senate Democrats have voted against their respective confirmations, by the way.

We are quite fine having women as leaders if they are actually competent and charismatic like it would be the case with men. Neither HRC nor Harris were that; the former was reviled and the latter couldn't even speak coherently. The Democrats can easily get a woman elected President if they would simply choose a good candidate with policies that resonate with the electorate.

Re:How Nissan and Honda's $60B merger talks collapsed on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @07:35PM (#43031440)
Pretty much this. Honda was all but begged by the Japanese government to bail Nissan out. Remember that the Japanese government had a role in taking out Renault and preventing a French takeover of Nissan, their political hand was already overstretched.

The merger/buyout collapsed because Nissan is too proud to admit that they have failed and aren't in any position to be making demands.

Also, this is a tangent but with the US Steel buyout/investment from Nippon Steel being a common subject matter these days, remember what Japan did to protect Nissan every time they bitch about the US protecting US Steel. What goes around comes around.

Re:US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @05:07PM (#43030269)
You are so disingenuous it is staggering.

Your right to pursuit of happiness ends where another's rights begins. The US federal government is also tasked with the duty of protecting and furthering the general welfare of Americans including the protection of property.

You do not have a right let alone a privilege to illegally cross the border or stay in the country beyond what your visa permits. We welcome legal immigrants, but illegal aliens are patently not welcome and fraudulent asylum applicants further break down the system for everyone.

Indeed. Our American values are and always have been Equality, Pursuit of Happiness, and legal justice respectively, as declared in our Declaration of Independence[1] and Constitution[2], even if there were and will be complications along the way.

Liberty is power, power is responsibility. Noone ever said living free was going to be easy, but everyone will say it's a fulfilling life.

I'm Japanese-American, so I'm not exactly happy about Japan's state of irrelevance (yet again). Their one saving grace as a special(er) ally and friend is they can still enjoy some of the nectar with us if they get in lockstep like the UK does (family blood!) when push comes to shove.

>Who is even the creator here?

People and countries who make and ship products.

You don't make rules by writing several hundred pages of legalese as a litigator, you make rules by creating products and defining the market.

Be creators, not litigators.

Re:US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @05:07AM (#43023782)
I love the retelling of "I don't really care, Margaret." here.

But politics aside, this also points to something I've said numerous times here before: In order to write the rulebook you need to be a creator.

Only those who actually make and build and invent things get to write the rules. As far as "AI" is concerned, the creators are squarely the United States and presumably China. The EU, Japan, et al. being mere consumers sincerely cannot write the rules because they have no weight to throw around.

If you want to be the rulemaker, be a creator; not a litigator.

>Assuming they don't or concluding they don't because they don't align to your preferences means that you, not them, are polarized.

Many people here including parent commenter argue for rule of law, which includes controlling and protecting the border and deporting illegal aliens as written in the law. However, those same people (not necessarily parent commenter, but probably the case also) argue for an uncontrolled anarchistic border and presence of foreign nationals in the same breath.

This is why I am of the mind that the only standard the Left has is the lack of standards. Rule of law, except not those laws.

Re:No longer writing my own damn HTML on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @02:24AM (#43022774)
>what is the actual cost incurred by the users here?

Time.

Every bit of JavaScript is more time to download, execute, and then render the page. Time is a valuable resource, users appreciate not being told to waste it.

>I think it's better to distribute the workload across clients.

The bulk of such loads should and ideally must be on servers, not clients. Use PHP, not JavaScript.

Also worth noting, the biggest motivator for JavaShit by far is the website owner(s) cutting costs. More load on the clients is more idling of the servers, the consequences of this will be homework left for the readers.

Re:No longer writing my own damn HTML on Wednesday February 12, 2025 @02:21AM (#43022756)
The ideal amount of JavaScript is zero.
>That, and vocally and vociferously insisting on the rule of law.

Like preventing illegal entry and crossing of borders and deporting illegal aliens? Or is that not rule of law?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that we are a country of law and order. The problem is that the only standard the Left has is they have no standard.

>Japan is one of the foremost funders of deep research.

Perhaps they were once upon a time, it's questionable if they still are today.

And anyway, that's not even the real problem Japan's R&D world has: The real problem is that Japan can't bring products to market. If you can't make some money your R&D is going to eventually run out of gas and die.

Japan is also poorer than its financials might suggest. Japanese society shuns pioneering, the road not yet taken might as well be the plague; everyone wants to be #2 or lower, not #1. This means a lot of Japanese capital ends up sitting around doing nothing besides accruing petty interest, only a small fraction gets budgeted for pioneering into the new and the unknown after significant disparagement.

Re:Nvidia's RTX 5090 power connectors are melting on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @09:44PM (#43021248)
Except when the "expected tolerance" is unreasonable.

Even if the connectors and wires are to spec, the design leaves next to no margin for play. You need that margin to account for reality: Handling by casual end-users rather than trained professionals, the ambient temperature of the average room or office, dirt and grime that might get lodged and go unnoticed, wonky supply/draw of power, and more.

Running 8.3A through connections rated for 8.5A is "expected tolerance", it's also fucking stupid in no uncertain terms.

Re:Nvidia's RTX 5090 power connectors are melting on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @09:38PM (#43021199)
What is the reason the spec keeps specifying next to no headroom? Clearly that was the fundamental problem with 12VHPWR and it's being repeated with 12V2X6.

Any engineer worth his salt knows that you should leave plenty of headroom in your designs, you are not supposed to stress your components to (almost) their maximum specifications under nominal use.

That's the thing though, re-read what the author said very carefully:

"that person is your enemy, even if that person has always been cool to you in the past, ... or your partner has never actually met the person."

If your spouse decides for any or no reason to hate your friend that they never even met, you're just an asshole if you then decide to mirror that sentiment just because.

Re:CFPB's 1,700 employees told to "not perform any work" on Tuesday February 11, 2025 @09:14AM (#43012917)
No.

The mental gymnastics many of the people here go through to justify their screeching is frankly appalling[1][2][3].

Hate Trump and Musk if you want because that's frankly none of my business, but if you are serious about accepting wanton waste and especially fraud of people's tax dollars I will not have any respect for you and your lack of civility.

If you are serious that millions and billions of dollars is an insignificant sum of money, I will question your grasp upon common sense and reality.

If you're going to betray a friend just like that, you're a mentally ill asshole rather than a loving family man.
