Re:Find the flattest route between any two points in SF on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @09:33AM (#49978209)
They are a real segmentation in some places but as you can probably guess that is few and far between. A line on the road is also in the minority with the rest being nothing at all.
Not sure, not my domain. My comment was just highlighting that comparing the yields on two sovereign bonds with the same maturity doesn’t necessarily mean one is riskier than the other, there are other factors.
Sort of. You also have to consider exchange rate futures, the value of the currency you will be getting paid in may change dramatically.
Re:AirPods 5 on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:59PM (#49635052)
Disagree slightly with audio quality for cars. I recently got a car with "good" speakers and the difference from regular car speakers is striking. Although I'm sure that the curve quickly flattens on spending more to get more quality, going above the base car speaker level has been awesome for me.
My thought is that if you don’t care enough to even write it then why should I care to read it? The answer for me is that I don’t.

Oh no way I didn’t know Hellfire was unofficial. I don’t even remember where I got it back in the day but I still remember the CD..
Re:Why we can’t quit Excel on Friday December 05, 2025 @08:34AM (#46161061)
Because I actually do love Excel for my uses, and I have about 15 years of muscle memory for all of the keyboard shortcuts.
Re:Microsoft 365 Copilot is a commercial failure on Saturday October 04, 2025 @09:33PM (#45478189)
We use it in finance for the reasons above. Microsoft actually just added GPT 5 to Copilot so it’s much better than it used to be. I’ve used it to help write scripts in VBA and it’s really good for my use cases. Before GPT 5 it was worse than useless.

I'd also suggest Siddhartha for this. Having read it at different points of my life makes it uniquely special.
Re:The Movie Mistake Mystery from "Revenge of the Sith" on Sunday April 20, 2025 @05:05PM (#43746520)
Oh, I have a similar pet peeve but for watching live sports. Sometimes they’ll cut from the ‘main’ camera angle to a different one mid-action but it will be slightly out of sync and noticeable. For whatever reason this is super noticeable to me and bugs me to no end.
Re:Advent of Code 2024 on Sunday December 01, 2024 @09:27AM (#42288604)
I use Excel for the first few as well! I actually find it to be easier than using Python/Javascript, at least early on.
You’re gonna need a bigger boat
I agree. For whatever reason if I have 10 things to do or 1 thing to do I make completing them take the same amount of time.
Re:Htmx, Raku and Pico CSS on Monday September 09, 2024 @08:47AM (#41488004)
No, you're pretty much exactly right. I am not a programmer by trade and when searching around and trying different technologies the first one that really clicked for me was HTMX. For whatever reason, handling all of that logic on the backend felt more natural. I've since started learning React and it's amazing how much 'easier' some of those UI conveniences really are. However, in places where they aren't truly necessary it's hard to beat the convenience and ease of a small Flask/SQLite/HTMX app, for me.

But yeah, if that doesn't really fit your mental model then I don't see a huge reason to give it a try.. other than it IS fun!

This is part of the larger SEC crackdown on personal device communications. They've already collected billions from banks and other firms:

My assessment is that your comment derailed it.
Re:Ask HN: Anybody Using Htmx on the Job? on Saturday March 30, 2024 @12:53PM (#39876467)
You don't have to write any JS.
Re:Citigroup Plans to Cut 20k Jobs on Friday January 12, 2024 @12:47PM (#38971341)
In a number of cases, yes. Whole departments are being slashed/they are exiting certain business lines so no need to pick up the slack there.
Re:Music-Map – Find Similar Music on Thursday November 30, 2023 @09:25PM (#38482258)
Listened to a few Wax Tailor songs, reminds me a lot of Pretty Lights--at least the vibe. Pretty Lights doesn't do as much of the voice samples. Check out Pretty Lights' album Taking Up Your Precious Time, you might dig it.
Re:Alameda lost tens of millions because of a fat fingering mistake on Wednesday September 20, 2023 @09:17PM (#37592159)
If he has ace face up and checks and sees a king he is supposed to flip it over, show his blackjack, and take everyone's money. He instead let them play the hand out as if he didn't have the king.

No, English does not have this. We can't agree on anything and we like it that way.
Re:Fitch Downgrades the US Rating to 'AA+' on Tuesday August 01, 2023 @08:42PM (#36965392)
That was S&P. Moody's still rates the US 'Aaa'.
Re:Is infinity an odd or even number? (2011) on Tuesday May 02, 2023 @12:13PM (#35789853)
Not to be obtuse but isn't all of mathematics spawned from a chosen way of making a definition and vacuous truth?

Thanks all for the replies. I retract my snark!
Re:Japanese Explained to Programmers on Tuesday January 31, 2023 @08:35AM (#34594815)
"Being born in France, I was immersed in Japanese culture from a very young age."

I fail to see how these two things are connected?

they also found that going to sleep later correlated with higher morning alertness

I always found this to be true for myself--if I got 6 hours of sleep I'd be much more alert in the morning than if I got 8.
