Why is almost anything more expensive in the US than in other countries?

It’s time to bring back old hardware sitting in closets as while they may be obsolete from a performance perspective they are ahead in terms of privacy. Let’s stop stripping old hardware support out of the Linux kernel and keep distros for old hardware alive.

Pretty sad that you of all people are getting downvoted for telling the truth.
Seems to me this says more about the programmer than the language.
Can’t we have a tight loop in any language? What’s special about C here?

These companies keep demanding more and more and more from employees and their customers. When will they be satisfied?? We fostered their development and need now to reap from them.

When will these big companies be satisfied? They have astronomical market caps, share prices and pay structures for leadership but it’s always more more more. These companies need to pull off the gas pedal and provide for their employees more rather than continue to extract from them.

Why?

What markets exist outside of government authority? No, black and gray markets don’t count because the increased money supplies created by governments will affect the overall amount of money chasing goods in any market.

Most of your ‘refutation’ is dishonest, Keynesian, MMT nonsense. Fiat doesn’t get introduced unless printed or borrowed by the government. Full stop. Companies raising prices is not inflation and conflating that with government monetary policy is outright disinformation.

You are getting down voted for telling the truth. Every inflation discussion starts with the supply side economics or companies raising taxes, but inflation only happens in reality because of government spending, borrowing, and deficit spending.

Privacy and user empowerment stopped around 2007 and most technological advances suit the capital and political classes for their benefit, hegemony and ability to control us. It’s time to stop buying new hardware and to be content using older hardware to halt the erosion of our privacy and maintain what little independence we have.

Completely agree. The pollution metaphor is apt: Not only the cognitive cost of looking over this code, realizing it’s displaying a CSV, and offering advice but also the real CO2 cost of hosting, packaging, distributing, running, and maintaining this code. Truly progressive devs should always consider these costs.

Remote work is one of the biggest labor corrections, restoring a significant chunk of compensation to workers, since the 1970s. The time saved, avoided fuel costs, and quality of life improvements are huge. The green movement and publications that support it (like The Atlantic) should back remote work 100%. The interests that leveraged the internet to create massive value for their companies don't want you to use that same internet to improve the quality of your work life. This piece by The Atlantic, an otherwise friendly source, is designed to create long established precedent for the office as a place where people gather to work, forever crystalizing it as a physical place for bodies rather than allowing it to transform to a logical collective for minds. Interesting how much work gets done on the Linux kernel, VSCode, and other projects across the globe on GitHub, but somehow we must return to physical offices? No.
