Re:Wealth Taxes Could Kill Privately-Owned Companies on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:03PM (#49837310)
Nice and clear article, however while I was reading it, I was wondering how the estate tax handles such scenarios. When this owner of In-N-Out dies, how does that tax get applied?

I'm not sharing my opinion on the matter or anything, just correcting you that the California wealth tax is a one-time event, so the owner would only need a single $250M loan, not a new one each year.
So is the takeaway that universal child care has a positive impact on GDP of the parents, but a negative impact on the overall life of the child?
> As long as there are many competitors, that's better than a monopoly, even if some of the competitors are foreign

How do you prevent another monopoly from forming from a different country than your own?

I kinda somewhat reluctantly agree with you, and I think other commenters are missing the point that breaking up Google may allow non-US competitors to rise up and take Google's place on the world stage. Thus, breaking them up is not in the national interest of the US.

What would the steps be for this? Hopefully the other country has easier entry and that would be a possible route?

I wonder if this has to do with the current economy and job market. Anecdotally I have found it very tough to find a new job (software engineering), though my previous employer continues to post job listings for green card applications as part of the required labor market test.

Sounds like your wife needs to be more accommodating or understanding. My spouse understands decompression time and enables it, despite me working remotely.
Mplayer maybe?

Just casually dropping a link to a 54-minute video? Back in my day the internet was a series of links to webpages that were short reads!

Your employer (large employers usually dictate what is covered by their insurance benefit offerings) may not care much about whether you end up with obesity-related diseases in your 60s and above.
What are some reasons someone would be interesting in buying this? It doesn't seem very useful.
If no plain text version exists, maybe search for your plates plus a bunch of other random plates too. If you're interested in LMT-487 for example, maybe search for that plus and minus 100 on either end? Or go to the grocery store and search for all the plates you see there? :)

Can anyone summarize the 31 minute video?
That was unfortunately very light on details and could be tossed away as mere speculation. I’d love to learn more on this though.

I’m not sure how I feel about a government incentivizing daycare. I’d rather all parents receive financial support, regardless of their childcare decisions.
I love the irony here. Going outside into “real life” to find pictures to post on a site that keeps people inside.
With a pension system, if I die shortly after retiring, my heirs and I get nothing. Whereas if I save for my own retirement with a 401k, my heirs would get that money.
