Re:Katamari Damacy but it's The Met collection on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:44AM (#50352629)
There's a million ways to already explore these artifacts. A silly game to mess about with them isn't a bad thing
Re:Katamari Damacy but it's The Met collection on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:42AM (#50352596)
What you mean is you only played the first level. The game gets bigger with each level
Re:Katamari Damacy but it's The Met collection on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:41AM (#50352579)
There's no single thing that made katamari great. It's the sum of its parts

It's the chaos, the music, the growth over a level, the characters, the visual design, the sound effects.

The sequels showed that when any one of them suffers then it makes for a less endearing game on the whole.

> who read the original post

I think there's your answer. A hell of a lot of people will often read the title without reading the contents of the article. I admit I'm often guilty of that

Re:US boy names that became girl names and vice versa on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @06:53AM (#50350855)
Probably more in the US. In the UK John and Jean (with a french pronunciation) sound completely different. John has a hard O sound, and Jean has a soft J and an elongated aw sound
It doesn't really if you're already reviewing you team's code anyway. In that case it still saves the time writing the software
Being realistic about the future doesn't necessarily mean you're in favour of it

I wouldn't be so sure about that

Re:Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era? on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:18AM (#50301954)
Not personally. What I am tired of is the internet's current approach of treating every discussion (of anything) with pure outrage without considering any nuance.

It's completely destroying genuine conversations about the pros and cons of AI when people will just forever parrot that everything is slop

I'm no expert in the matter, but weren't only the intermediate CAs compromised, not the root?
Why are they not just pushing out the update asap? Unless they're relying on the compromised certs, then it feels it should be incredibly trivial to push

Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:55AM (#50272166)
I suspect if you used an average 5 year old PC and current PC, there'd be very little noticeable difference between the two outside of LLMs
Re:Apple introduces the new 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:52AM (#50272122)
I'm always surprised that devs need such high spec machines just for developing software. Unless you're developing games or scientific computing software or similar, I din't know what the power would be used for.

My dev machine is an i5 of some description about 6 years old, that's about all I could tell you off the top of my head because I've never worried about needing slightly faster compiles. (Ignoring running local LLMs of course. Currently they can't compete with Opus 5.5)

Re:Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:37AM (#50271050)
Well of course. That's like saying you can't make toast in the kettle, but it doesn't stop the kettle being useful
Ignoring your weird correlation between freedom and tech. Not gonna google European tech before you comment?
Inciting violence
"The US has the most freedom. Don't look into that fact. Just trust us"
Not really. Given that roblox is almost entirely children, and given the amount of hot water they're in you'd think they'd stay the hell away from adult content
Re:Vegemite is not a human right on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:30AM (#50245444)
Marmite would also be banned if it's because it throws off the sniffer dogs
Re:Vegemite is not a human right on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:29AM (#50245440)
Or you know, a multivitamin

Well which is it?

Re:OLED iPad Mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:47AM (#50244691)
It always reminds me of the imac from 15 or so years ago when they were touting how thin the imac was.

In reality the back was curved, and they took pictures from an angle that only showed off the edge of the screen and not how far back it curved

Re:The new iPad mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:46AM (#50244651)
You can't just spin up factories producing top of the line components like RAM. It's an extremely expensive process
Re:The new iPad mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:44AM (#50244610)
I don't think that's unique to OLED. There's all manner of things that could've gone wrong when breaking a corner in both LCD and OLED
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:19AM (#50243141)
For something that's written in MS Word, that's fairly common. It's only on websites where it's uncommon to see
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @09:17AM (#50243114)
It's been entirely possible to compete against existing companies with very similar products for centuries before AI. There's obviously rules in place to stop you flat out cloning their IP, but it's not like you haven't been able to compete against companies as long as you have the money available.
Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:36AM (#50242602)
They mean because the game originally ran at 320x240 of N64, so no scaling of 2d assets is required
Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @08:22AM (#50242455)
I think there's currently a lot of nostalgia of the 3DS as the console people have grown up with. And the device has a good homebrew community around it, and is more interesting than something like the switch can definitely run it with enough horsepower
Re:F-Zero X on Nintendo 3DS on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:18AM (#50241160)
I guess for those who are interested in an F Zero X port you assume they already know what platform it was on.

If I ever talk about Ocarina of Time, I don't feel the need to specify what platform it was on, or now that I realise, that it was even a Zelda game
