I think he meant the number of employees and the number of users remained proportional.
I use TiddlyWiki (http://tiddlywiki.com/) for research notes and daily work logs. At home, I track productive time (e.g., studying, reading books) using a timer, listing the amount of time devoted to each subject/book (per day) in a tab-separated file. I have not needed any sort of organizer for scheduling or for remembering good ideas.
Just ordered a 10" king for the house I'll be moving into next week. I'm so excited! Keep fighting the good fight.

Re:Google Play Music on the App Store on Friday November 15, 2013 @01:06PM (#6740975)
I recently bought a Nexus 7, and I had signed up for Google Play Music "All Access" immediately after it came out. The most useful feature, I think, is being able to store music from All Access on the tablet (for completely offline use, nonetheless!). To me, this is a fantastic deal.

Does the iPhone version allow for storage of All Access music offline?

Re:Is the universe fundamentally deterministic? on Thursday November 14, 2013 @01:10PM (#6734114)
In your original post, you state that we might as well assume determinism. Why? Given the widely accepted nondeterminism of quantum behavior, why wouldn't we assume nondeterminism instead?

I realize what you're grasping at is that deterministic behavior might somehow underly this seemingly nondeterministic behavior. Bell's theorem, however, has made it difficult to reject that the this fundamental aspect of the universe is hard to explain without assuming nondeterminism (or superdeterminism).

I agree you can't prove it. You just haven't really explained why you're leaning toward the deterministic side.

Re:Is the universe fundamentally deterministic? on Thursday November 14, 2013 @12:13PM (#6733535)
It seems a bit pompous to say that we've set up electrons the same way and observed that they go in two different directions for no reason. You can't eliminate reasons that you don't know about.

Have you heard about the EPR paradox [1]? Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen believed there may have been "hidden variables" in the language of quantum mechanics which were not yet accounted for. These hidden variables, if discovered, would render quantum mechanics more deterministic.

This idea was essentially shattered by Bell's theorem [2]. The universe probably is not deterministic (at least in the sense we think about determinism). That's a hard pill to swallow, and it goes against all human intuition. But the majority of physicists do seem to accept this fact, however uncomfortable it might initially feel.

To me, there are few things more infuriating than a Comcast representative saying something like, "Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. I would also be frustrated if my cable modem were not acquiring a signal." This type of "empathy" has disillusioned me from most empathy used in customer support.
I feel terrible for playing video games now.

I think it depends on the direction of the acceleration. The John Stapp experiment was horizontal acceleration, right? Right above that:

"... if g-forces are not quickly reduced, death can occur. Resistance to "negative" or "downward" g, which drives blood to the head, is much lower. This limit is typically in the −2 to −3 g (about −20 m/s² to −30 m/s²) range."

Re:Why you can't dislike something on Facebook on Monday June 03, 2013 @04:29PM (#5815747)
Here's an interesting social networking concept: the mixture of real names with anonymity. Your name would appear if you "liked" something, but dislikes would be anonymous. You could also have the option to post comments anonymously. Of course, bullying and drama would certainly be more prevalent, but nonetheless, it'd be an interesting experiment. (I also think people would be less afraid to speak their mind when a friend posts something incredibly stupid.)

I began experiencing this problem on my mid-2008 MBP late last year. More recently, I've found that slipping a piece of paper between the battery and the golden electrical strip helps a lot.
