Do they send you a bill at a later date, or are you meant to refill your balance before you can make more searches, or what?
I assume they don't keep your credit card on file and charge you for each individual extra search.
Oh come on.
It's not "opinions I disagree with," I hope. Because labeling that "unsafe" is a new level of Orwellian.
Your password store is a single file, it can be encrypted, backed up (or not), distributed/synchronized between your devices (or not). It belongs to you, not to a third party.
The inevitable rejoinder is, "what happens if someone gets that file?" Well, what happens if someone gets your piece of paper?
What's the point of all that garden-walling and 30% tax and hoops you have to jump through if there's still malware?
Do they? I don't. At this moment, I couldn't tell you the name of Microsoft's newest console, because their naming convention is so convoluted. Meanwhile, I can tell from a glance that the PS5 is newer than the PS4.
Granted, I'm not a console gamer, but neither are (most) parents buying consoles for their children.
"Ehh, people will know what we're talking about" seems like a haphazard marketing strategy.
They won't, and that's why I think we, as a society, need to move past journalism.
That sounds like sarcasm, but it isn't. And I know what you're thinking- "oh but a free press is one of the legs of the tripod of society!" Well it was, decades ago. Now it's literally all tabloids and propaganda. It's time let it go.
We have various tools that allow individuals to securely communicate with each other. Let people communicate the news, word-of-mouth. We don't need bloggers and corporations anymore to put a spin on the facts.
"Democracy dies in darkness" is a threat, not a plea. Do you listen to cancer when it admonishes you, "don't excise me, or you'll be sorry!"
You bring up legitimate concerns and you're met with either stony silence, or you get called an asshole.
because the current crop of powermods have a stranglehold on who and who cannot be appointed to be a mod, and they refuse to take applications from anyone with opinions right of Trotsky.
No one's saying being a mod is easy. We're saying we want the power-hungry extremists to get out of the way, and to let reasonable professionals do the job instead, professionals whose only interest is to enforce the rules as written, and not to exclude people who disagree with them.
Your argument is circular, and is perverse. Your powermod friends are hurting the community, and everyone is calling for them to step down, and you respond with "hey you do the job if you think it's easy!" WTF? We can't do it because you won't get the hell out of the way!
Reddit has indicated that it wants to pay for content moderation. So be it. Who are you to tell them how they run their company?
Maybe when we move away from "volunteers" then the "volunteers" can get real jobs that pay real money! It'll be good for them.
Reddit's moderators are petty tyrants, half of whom are mentally ill and drunk with power. They're a drag on Reddit, not an asset.
I say do away with the entire concept of volunteer moderators. The idea is superficially sound but experience has shown us that it attracts bossy scoundrels who take themselves too seriously and make internet discussion boards miserable for people with real jobs who don't wear knee-high striped socks on a regular basis.
Moderators should be paid, anonymous, and completely detached from the community which they regulate. More like watchmen from Plato's Republic, less like Steve the lipstick-wearing commissar.
Yes, I know you're not supposed to look at the keyboard as you type. And I don't. But I still don't like it. It sets off "this is dumb" alarm bells in my head.
And because it's impossible to replace every keyboard I own or use, or physically rearrange their keys from QWERTY to Dvorak/Colemak, i'm stuck with QWERTY.
Why does it have to be chopped up into individual chunks and put up on twitter?
I know you're not arguing otherwise, but this never happens, and it's one of those annoying arguments that anti-gun people use to justify banning and confiscation.
Screen tearing is something that simply shouldn't exist by default. A person should be able to count on its absence, like a person should be able to count on a basic USB keyboard working without any headaches.
Now I'll brace myself for the "I've never noticed screen tearing" from people whose brains run on a different refresh rate than mine does.
HN confirmed for Hyperboreans.
Maybe we're moving past the societal stage where being a content creator is a real job.
Maybe people aren't meant to make a living from putting videos on the internet.
