Those sound like reasonable positions, not a moral high ground. Unless you believe Putin will stop the war, it's up to Ukraine to end it.

Or keep it going and send more and more bodies into the meat grinder. Which I wouldn't mind as much if all the bodies walked into it of their own free will, but it looks like everyone voluntarily fighting Russia is already dead. If it wasn't like this Ukraine's "recruiters" wouldn't need to snatch people off the street, which I first saw videos of a long time ago.

What do people despise about them? I never quite understood what is special about their cameras compared to all the other cameras in public. All camera footage can be fed to and analyzed by AI.
I've got no opinion on Flock, but I certainly agree that it is a lot easier to affirm the world view of fundamentalists than to debate them in real life. Especially since they tend to get aggressive and are vindictive long-term.

No matter what it is, if the other party holds the strict belief that they can't be wrong, I avoid to debate them privately.

Apologizing is admitting guilt and that's just never a good time in the vicinity of lawyers. It's their job to prove guilt, not yours.
Historically it was an easy step going from "these people are not real" to "these people are now dead".

I got the Framework 12 for about 800€ by bringing my own SSD and RAM and charging. Specced that way it's only about a 200€ premium, which I don't mind in exchange for repairability and hassle-free Linux install.

That was before prices went crazy, though. Now the RAM alone is over 500€. Also, whether the repairability is worth anything I'll find out down the line, but so far it's looking good.

Re:The Curse of Soldered RAM on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:44AM (#50245703)
I read it as being not powerful enough and didn't parse the size issue properly. What exactly is the problem? I'm regularly using 12" laptops and don't see much wrong with it. Just changes the workflow a bit, as I normally use a 52" screen.

It's not ideal, but then working on a laptop never is.

Re:The Curse of Soldered RAM on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:18AM (#50241164)
You don't use your laptop as just a thin client connecting to a more powerful machine over the Internet?
> I like Battleship Potemptkin and Citizen Kane as much as the next person, but that's not all of what was popular.

Funnily enough, those happen to be two movies I didn't enjoy beyond their historic relevance.

I'm not saying that spectacle and one-liners are bad - movies like that are included in my list for 1984. It is when you substitute good writing with funny lines and have spectacle instead of a compelling narrative that I see a problem.

Not too sure about that. It seems that stuff that is being demonized in democracies has a better approval rating among the people. For example absolute monarchy, as was exercised by Louis XIV.

Democracy sucks pretty hard. No one is held accountable for failure. Puppets with no real power get blamed and replaced to placate the population. If your pockets are deep enough you can buy laws.

Didn't torrents solve this problem before Youtube was even invented? Also, it looks like Bilibili is going to expand internationally and they have a pretty good chance of eating Youtube's lunch.
You also have to create an account to use an Osmo action cam. I almost sent the damn thing back upon finding out, but as it turns out, you can make a fake mail, fake account, and after having connected once you can treat it as if it never happened.

Still infuriating.

I heard you can buy really expensive paint that you can use on your walls, ceiling and floor to get this effect, that you then can paint over whatever color you actually want.

So far the only benefit other than shielding you from electrosmog was to stop having to compete with your neighbors in an apartment complex for wi-fi bands.

That's just weasel language. For "hey, Google" to work, the phone needs to listen. Just like it can react to "hey, Google", it can also react to any amount of other trigger words without ever actually recording your conversation.
Good movies are just good movies. Recently I've been watching titles from the 1920s and those are a lot of fun, too.

At some point we lost good writing in favor of silly jokes and narrative in favor of spectacle.

If that was the only reason I could name a dozen watchable movies from the last decade, but I can't. I can name a dozen good movies from 1984:

1. Beverly Hills Cop

2. Ghostbusters

3. The Terminator

4. Gremlins

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street

6. Police Academy

7. Dune

8. Repo Man

9. The NeverEnding Story

10. Karate Kid

11. Romancing the Stone

12. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Or pretty much any year from the 1980s and 1990s.

Are you conveniently forgetting about all the tech shifts from the past that did replace labor permanently? The printing press, steam machine, electricity, electronic computers,... even something banal like an elevator used to need a skilled laborer to operate it and now no longer does.
Wasn't there news of Canada kinda, sorta but not really getting into being part of the EU recently? To begin with, the EU is just a bunch of independent countries getting cozy with each other.
Re:The Kevin Bacon on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:12AM (#50219466)
That's because Hollywood moved away from stars to franchises. People no longer watch a movie because an actor they know is in it, they watch it because it is connected to a franchise they know.

People do? I loathe the modern web.

Give me a https://motherfuckingwebsite.com/ instead.

Don't expect too much of Rusted Moss if Silksong is kicking your ass. Silksong is the easier game. I like Rusted Moss because movement reminds me of the Umihara Kawase series, but it's not for everyone.
Especially since all the malware I had to deal with on relative's phone came directly from Google's Playstore.
Hopefully it won't affect outdated Android versions, either. Then the fix is easy: never update again.
But I have Google Play Services disabled, since I couldn't uninstall it.

PS4 controller also has these features and works out of the box with emulators.
Re:Jailbreaking the Switch 2 on Friday October 23, 2026 @05:37AM (#50206470)
What advantage does the Switch Pro controller have over, say, a PS4 controller?
Re:Jailbreaking the Switch 2 on Friday October 23, 2026 @05:30AM (#50206422)
I'm expecting this to go the other way around. Copyright as we know it will go the way of the Dodo.
Re:Jailbreaking the Switch 2 on Friday October 23, 2026 @05:25AM (#50206392)
Reminds me of the scanlation scene (manga piracy) where some scanlators get mad about someone else hosting their translations so people can read it for free and not having to go through them.

There's even a term for it, I believe. Cognitive dissonance.

Where do you find trustworthy top tens?

So far, only Rusted Moss and Silksong were worth my time among the platformers I tried, which included the original Hollow Knight (platforming is too easy), Celeste (too easy A-sides, unfun B-sides) and Animal Well (too easy base game, too cryptic post game).

If only Zen was in the repositories of my Linux system, I'd have given it a try. Not a fan of running a browser of all things from outside the repositories.
