DATA CENTERS THAT USE LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER TO COOL DOWN SERVERS. BECAUSE OF THAT, COUPLED WITH AN ONGOING CLIMATE CRISIS, CHILE IS FACING A SEVERE DROUGHT EXPECTED TO LAST UNTIL 2040.

Just read the content my dude. It took me 3 minutes.

Re:Someone on Torrent Sites Kept Fucking with My Sonarr on Friday October 16, 2026 @10:17AM (#50118673)
Pay 10/mo for a seedbox, it derisks your life and is extremely handy. On most sites, you can download batch torrents freeleech and then get your ratio up by leaving those seeding for a while. I use this box for a bunch of stuff so I don't feel like I'm paying just for torrents
Seems fair when the same companies pilfer public goods like physical infrastructure and our internet privacy.
It is indeed a list, though not everyone will use it the same way!

>I have a sneaking suspicion that people are having some agent check out 500 repos and just prompting with “find a bug in this repo and fix it” and submitting the results blindly.

This is unironically suggested as a way to 'get in the door' both in bootcamps and 'spammy' universities.

Well one is already disliked as an associate of an active war criminal. That's a given. Evading taxes probably falls low on his list of actual crimes.

The other we expect to oversee these kinds of things. Considering they do accounting for a quarter of the worlds rich and largest businesses, this should raise alarms as to what else they're fudging.

Good thing you don't need much trust in this case. Source available here - https://github.com/nationaldesignstudio/rampart

I suppose the model could be doing stuff, but you can also switch that out for your own with the source.

Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:40PM (#50009094)
I just went to Asbury Park, NJ about a month ago. It was all local highschool/college kids. I go to an ice cream shop in Brooklyn by a park - all highschoolers.

I think it just depends on the location? But also yes - if I'm worth my salt, why would I take these jobs over higher paying internships? At 19 I was able to land $25/h jobs in tech. Maybe we should rethink the pay scales in terms of sustainability. Unfortunately we live in the US where short term gains are the sole motivator for most companies.

Re:OpenAI Withdraws 3 Math Papers on Thursday October 08, 2026 @10:39AM (#50006363)
Without the expertise needed to evaluate this information, it really reads like a "business KPIs have gone up! All is well!"-type communication. Their ability to spout technical jargon at scale is like a firehose that no one can really consume. I'm losing trust in any announcement of LLMs having 'solved' anything novel at this point.
Infuriating. These organizations are supposed to be stewards of the internet and are instead pillaging it at the cost of everyone else. At the very least they could provide resources to the projects they are harming for relief. This makes me very mad as an OSS maintainer.
Re:We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare on Sunday October 04, 2026 @11:55AM (#49955005)
your agent can be running on your machine, at the same cost as running the PC you're already on. Agents != subscription services
We've stopped upgrading the models of our classification workflows for >1 year at this point, meaning they're running acceptably on early/mid-2025 models. That said I believe there is a long tail of non-production-ized users who throw this into their everyday LLM chats.
Re:Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society? on Monday September 28, 2026 @10:56AM (#49879055)
Vagueposting is a new term online for this kind of behavior - it stems from people getting absolutely destroyed online for various opinions, resulting in people not feeling safe to say what they really mean. Sometimes it's hateful opinions, sometimes it isn't. The end result is people will become unable to simply state their opinions and we won't be able to pick apart people with terrible ideas from the good ones, because no one wants to talk!
Re:Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:24AM (#49815738)
Because they respond to HN threads about their products? Which are likely Claude hooks monitoring for activity in the first place? Come on...

At least make an argument for switching vendors based on the quality or price of their service.

Re:Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @09:23AM (#49815724)
I think you're giving these files too much credit. There are no specs, they are freeform text. In this sense they are the same. The expectation of what could be in it by each vendor means nothing unless it's enforced.
Re:GPT-6 Sol and Luna on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:31PM (#49806002)
This has been my experience for a year. Same with Opus models. This is how I think this tech will be best used in the long term - finding the one you vibe with most. Much like IDEs!
Re:Bend 2 and the Vibe-Coding Trap on Saturday September 19, 2026 @10:02AM (#49766679)
Your only issue was that the author was unaware of a subject and that the code is long. You didn’t even google the guy! Respectfully, I think you made a bad point and probably harmed your own stance with this post.
You should learn who the author is, then. Part of learning about our ecosystem.
> compelling novel game loops

Tell that to the mountain of failed AI slop games on Steam! As a game dev, building compelling, fun games is not even something humans are good at doing consistently. The AI can build the tech, but it can't make something 'fun' yet (unless your bar for fun is simply that a tool created a thing).

It's not really a moral issue, it's simply the definition of the word. Using an incorrect term to describe yourself knowing it is incorrect can be perceived as virtue-signaling or claiming your own moral superiority. For example, one could ask "why call yourself a vegan if you eat fish?".

There's no policing body here, but people are rightfully calling the double-standard out here.

Edit: Would also love to hear the ethics of why fish can be eaten when cows/chicken/pigs cannot. Doesn't sound ethically consistent to me at all.

Re:Nitter is unarchived and will continue on Monday September 07, 2026 @10:36AM (#49598931)
Problems that need to be solved - 1. Distribution - corps own the browsers 2. Platforms - corps own these as well 3. Cost - hosting, moderation, etc.

You may very well be building a whole new intraweb

A good term for that is pescatarian - as eating fish is neither vegan nor veg!
Re:Notes on Private Trackers on Sunday September 06, 2026 @11:36AM (#49587549)
We have never had issues finding members. Posting public information about them is a way to draw more attention which goes against the whole ecosystem. I stand by my statement.
Indeed, not sure why you are being downvoted. Contribute to open source with the energy you have to call out missing features.
Real life isn't just "the shitty version from China", especially in 2026. Some of their products are better, some are worse. Nearly _all_ of our clothing comes from Asia, from low to high-end brands.

I'm saying there's value in specializing, not every country needs to be able to make everything. The real issue is people weaponizing their specializations, in this case specifically the USA with its stupid trade moves.

Re:Creepy Crawlies on Sunday August 30, 2026 @12:15PM (#49500006)
Not sure if you mean the solution, or the problem they were trying to solve.

The problem is the cost here is paid by a group of volunteers, no? It's objectively reducing capacity for a really important public project by 20%. If you're responsible for keeping a public good like this available, it seems obvious to me to want to prevent this overuse of resources. Only one of the 3 parties involved here is not willing to engage in good faith right now and causing harm. I don't understand a need to try and tolerate them.

Sure. If someone threatens you with imminent bodily harm, you can retaliate.
This is why free trade is important. We had a decent setup where countries were specializing in their own manufacturing/services specialties, and then we all paid each other for what we needed.

Then some greedy fools decided they needed more, and started trying to charge more on the way out or on the way in. Now the ones that specialized in the 'must haves' of today have insane leverage over everyone else. Then the 'easy' answer is to prevent those goods from coming into your country.

It's all so incredibly shortsighted, it deflates me.

> If your cache is that big it isn't a cache.

This is an incorrect statement. Caches do not have a requirement of being smaller than their source data set. CDN is an example of a cache that generally matches the size of the source data.
