Seems like most people think the NS prefix stands for NeXTSTEP. What do you think?

Can you provide any links regarding the Forgejo incident? I haven't heard about that.

It never was supposed to be.
As it is, Grokipedia is not a threat to Wikipedia because relative to Wikipedia, almost nobody is using it.

Additionally, an encyclopedia reader likely cares about accuracy significantly more than average.

Yes, it's the same price as a Google Play Console developer account, but this is for access to the new Android Developer Console.
Looks like Google will also be limiting each developer's number of apps and installations unless you pay them $25. https://developer.android.com/developer-verification/guides/...
Funny to say this when the article literally says "nothing wrong with mascots!"

Out of curiosity, what did you read as hostility?

In a different repository, though. I think it's understandable that someone would miss it.
Re:YouTube's new anti-adblock measures on Saturday June 21, 2025 @04:23AM (#44335725)
Perhaps one justification for blocking ads is protecting users from personal information harvesting, tracking, and malware delivered through advertising networks. Aside from that, I can't think of a justification.

I actually think it would be good if there were filter lists that whitelisted ads that were not harmful to users in those ways, but that sounds difficult/impossible to fairly maintain, and I doubt anyone else wants it.

4chan doesn't store threads for very long, hence the plethora of third-party archive sites. I doubt they are still storing any useful data from back then.

There is a 2020 video with a Minecraft developer talking about this testing infrastructure: https://youtu.be/vXaWOJTCYNg
According to this article, Arc requires an account and sends Google's Firebase the hostname of every page you visit along with your user ID. Does this make Arc the least private web browser currently being used?
Re:How Chainalysis made their way into popular Monero wallets on Monday September 16, 2024 @06:18AM (#41554565)
The hacker accidentally published their entire home directory (including ~/.ssh) along with the stolen patient records, which I imagine made things pretty easy for the authorities.

I would tell you to go to a specific timestamp to see the pen shadow that you are missing, but the Threads video player doesn't seem to have a visible time nor a way to pause playback. That's unfortunate.

If you go 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through the video when the camera zooms in, you'll probably see it.

How do you dump logs?
HN seems to do this with Reddit a lot
Requiring vehicles to be safer is a good idea, but it will take many years before unsafe vehicles are off the road. In the meantime, we should try to make changes that can have an impact on a shorter timeframe. Changing traffic laws can be done relatively quickly and have an immediate effect.
Re:Colorado Supreme Court Upholds Keyword Search Warrant on Wednesday October 18, 2023 @08:40PM (#37936774)
Apparently Google provided police with IP addresses, but not names [1]. Assuming that Google did not provide any other account details, the usage of a VPN service or Tor might be able to protect users in similar cases.

Re:Bitwig and Presonus launch open DAWproject format on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @11:31PM (#37684875)
The readme says that PreSonus Studio One supports the format, so I think it's possible others might in the future.
Re:Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates on Monday September 25, 2023 @04:58PM (#37650507)
I think they are referring to the Pixel 6 [1]. If the same happened again, Google might announce that the Pixel 8 will receive 4 or 5 years of major Android version updates and 7 years of security updates.

However, the alleged leaked specs for the Pixel 8 explicitly state "7 years of OS and security updates" [2], so I think they do actually intend on 7 years of major Android version updates.

I believe the driver was driving a car, not an airplane, so I'm not sure how the bridge being visibly damaged "from the air" is relevant.

I think it's better to just not allow custom text for links. It's the behavior people are accustomed to from years of using various social media platforms.
Re:Early response to false claims in Wikipedia, 15 years later on Thursday September 14, 2023 @01:03AM (#37505167)
I arbitrarily selected the month of September 2022 and found that on only 5 out of the 30 days of the month was there an entry related to Ukraine or Ukrainians in the "Did you know" section. Of those 5, only 1 was related to the war. I disagree that 5/30 constitutes "nearly every day".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Recent_additions/202......

Furthermore, I don't see what's inherently wrong with including information in that section that relates to a topic people are likely to be interested in at the moment.

Additionally, the "Did you know section" isn't really for current events. That would be the "In the news" section.

From the article:

"I always saw Checkout X as a limited-time-window opportunity and honestly I couldn’t see a future different to what happened to us."

Re:Teddit Is Shutting Down on Saturday July 15, 2023 @11:12PM (#36743165)
I disagree. The current title "Teddit Is Shutting Down" implies that the Teddit project or the official Teddit instance at teddit.net are shutting down, neither of which are currently happening.
