That's because they're seemingly perfunctory. What's worse than no law is a bad one that doesn't do anything but make you feel like something is actually being done.
If it's no longer (commonly) used, then the project has outlasted the name's so-called derogatory status and should be free from concern.
It's a clever name. What's your beef with it?
Your incessant fear mongering needs to be checked.
That's quite the claim. Where's your evidence?
I'm only stating a name many of them have branded themselves as, and proudly at that. It's a point of discussion and quite frankly disturbing people make assumptions as to those who use it.
Everything is presented verifiable with the smallest of effort.
Unfortunately that's their shortcoming and not mine as I can at least correct my mistakes. Other people aren't keen on correcting theirs nor can I force someone to recognize their own.
Another child peddling wares. They should be ashamed for using her like this.
This is why I use it. I haven't upgraded to Safari 13 yet so if that's where the change is it hasn't hit me yet. Still using an old version of ublock origin that has updated lists and between that and pihole it's going strong.
Firefox is nice and chrome is ok but they're a distant second at the moment due to the ecosystem with iOS
Which is going to happen regardless.
What would you rather they consume, an internal combustion engine that spits out a deadly exhaust or an electric vehicle that uses power, presumably from a nuclear or less toxic fuel source?
The medium article that was parroted by other sites was a hit piece that lied. And of course the people reading it believed every word without a shred of doubt, and other outlets republishing it failed journalistic integrity spectacularly.
Congratulations, to all those who fell for it.

He's not wrong. They don't provide anything we couldn't get elsewhere.
You can't be serious to compare US infrastructure to Germany. In my experience living there, the Deutsche Bahn is not to be trusted to be on time, or run at all. And while Amtrak isn't the shining beacon I'd like it to be at least it gets me from point A to B reliably.
If the filesystem itself was modeled after a database (which it can be argued it is, somewhat), it's not much of a stretch for WinFS to have been a thing.
I was looking forward to seeing it in action based on reports of what it was.
I've been using this for a few years now, didn't know Linus Torvalds was involved!
It's disturbing that the first thing you admitted to thinking of when I said "downsizing" was letting people die. What the heck?
the basics of econ, growth isn't even mentioned when it comes to capitalism.
Here: https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/economics/
if you don't understand what it means to downscale production I can't help you. Capitalism doesn't depend on infinite growth.
Who said he was using cloudflare as his upstream DNS? There are far more choices than cloudflare, google, or your ISP.
You obviously downscale the economy with a population that doesn't sustain or require growth.
No one needs mass immigration. Especially those with high living standards and "low" birth rates. The position you're taking is an outright lie and I can't fathom why it's constantly being perpetuated.
I disagree with the idea entirely. My energy usage is between myself (my company) and the utility company. Why anyone else has to have this information shouldn't even be an ongoing issue. I'm glad my business don't have to deal with that nonsense.
The anti-nuclear scare was saddening. We could have had multiple per-state with cheaper electric and more efficient and resilient power grids by now.
I'd like to mod my Tesla Model 3 to remove that huge screen and put the screen on the dashboard in a smaller screen behind the steering wheel, and the controls on the steering wheel itself. Maybe even with a reflective visual off the windshield close to the dashboard so the driver doesn't have to take their eyes off the road.
The research for this hasn't yielded much since I can't alter the UI at all.
Both Pythonista and OpenTerm on iOS are "good enough" for a lot of what I need, but it would be nice to have a proper shell. Even if it's jailed/locked to /private/var/mobile
rw file access doesn't mean there's a lack of file level permissions restricting a non sudo user from accessing an otherwise restricted file. case in point: try editing the /etc/hosts file without sudo. you can't save (without invoking sudo from within vim).
ro means no matter what I try, that file is ro unless the fs is remounted rw. Again, it doesn't negate file system level user/group permissions. and remounting a system level partition rw isn't something I'd do on a whim.
I like the idea of a ro partition for system level OS files, personally, but without user level access somehow - it's not something to be looked forward to.
As hyperbolic as this is, I agree with it. There's no need to constantly monitor people like this and it's realistically "big brother-ish" to do so.
What society, parenting, and/or schooling has failed to catch up with is the increasing pace of technological use by adolescents. No one's set proper societal or social guidelines for it, and the schools themselves haven't a solution/educational program outlining it either. Teaching people how to properly behave hasn't been explicitly stated as an area people need to include. They think that phone, or laptop, or tablet is just a black hole and that it's not "real life" or that another person isn't at the other end of it.
And I'm not talking about online shitposting, extreme satire, or any other elements of actual freedom of expression that may be offensive, but the reality and effects of bullying.
It's a 19th century problem people are trying to correct with 21st century tech, when it's anything but. It's a societal issue, or at work we call them "HR issues".
All this tech is going to accomplish is acclimate students to being watched all the time, and that's not a place I want to live in.
I agree. Putting all your eggs in one basket these days indicates poor decisions or risk assessment.
> Digital Ocean "Trust and Safety"
Does this phrase give anyone else the heebie-jeebies? They deliberately locked his account without looking at previous metrics over the previous months to conclude this was obviously not a concern, and why?
Things that have crossed my mind:
Is their automatic system was poorly tuned?
Was this deliberately initiated? If so, why?
> but it has been shown that medical care is male-oriented which negative affects female outcomes
I'm new to this idea. Where has it been shown? What level or aspect is it male-oriented? What negative affects are there?
A non-federally controlled pseudo-anonymous currency similar to cash has the positive upside of enabling digital privacy in spite of the blockchain. That's why. There are still trustworthy tumbler services to obfuscate and hold your bitcoins similar to a bank. And with what some claim, inarguably so, of government overreach and corporate over-sharing of your personal data, it's something I can sympathize with.
