I fear western capitalism has lost its guide rails. We are seeing more and more centralization of wealth, along with unlimited election spending. Its a dark path.
Was I just "unlucky", every episode had Lt Barkley. One of the more unremarkable characters IMHO.
I was sad on the day when my.yahoo.com shut down. It had a bunch of RSS feeds, and news, I have not found a good replacement for it.
Not sure how anyone can have a Mature battery recycling system when car batteries at any scale in general are less then 5 years old.

I would suspect the companies doing battery recycling are less then 3 years old, not mature by any measurement.

Re:Microsoft and Epic Games Suddenly Agree That AI Is Theft on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:43PM (#50277716)
Sadly the low hanging fruit is cloning other peoples games.

This takes away from all the indies that AI is empowering. I use AI on the game I am creating. It is wonderful in many ways. (I say this as I watch it burn thru 2m tokens with out informing me of the scope of what it was going to do).

Re:Major Memory Vendor: We're Basically Sold Out Through 2029 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:24PM (#50277254)
This sucks! I would really like to upgrade my PC memory, silly me thinking 64 GB was enough.

And I would love to build a home LLM server, but 10,000 is not in my budget right now.

Its better then 80% of people I have hired.
Ignorance is BLISS!
I love my AI tools, but if left alone they would cover the front lawn in rabbit holes. For now they need people to make judgement calls.

Will this be the case in 5 years, probably. They will certainly be different rabbit holes.

AI may have no skin in the game.

But it will work all night and on weekends. It never gets sick. It never forgets to do something. And as far as I can tell, it does it best work all the time.

That's enough skin for me.

I strangely have mixed feelings on this. Half of me says "Illegal search and seizure", the other half say "We need to get the crazy drivers off the road"

Isn't that what streamers are for?

I mean - reviewers!

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @12:41PM (#50261842)
Amazing!

Question I have is when will they be able to render something more then 30 seconds.

And how much will it cost? There has to be a HUGE amount of computing power behind this. As a video game developer I live in fear and anticipation.

Amazing, most addictive things I have seen in ages.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @03:07PM (#50122975)
Two thumbs up for the Slate vehicles. Simple, cheap, non trackable.

Did you see 0 to 60 in 0.81 second, now THAT is flying!
Re:How to engineer an AI harness for game development on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @01:31AM (#50082791)
I pretty much agree with everything he said.

I've been building virtual worlds, games and game engines for 25 years, and the last year has been amazing. Last December was the start of a revolution, and in the ten months since, the models have just kept getting better.

These days I can sic Opus 5.5 on ten issues from my todo list, go to bed, and wake up to them fixed. It's always faster than I would have been, but speed isn't what impresses me. It holds every issue in mind at once and connects them in ways I never did.

It has real limits. It's great at connecting what's already there, but it doesn't invent anything. It's weak on visual detail, and consistency is a foreign word to it. You have to keep steering it. Do that well and it will blow you away.

Whenever I have tokens to spare, I point it at architecture reviews, code reviews and security reviews. It keeps the codebase tight.

Over the last year it has written 250k lines of code for me, it has generated all of the icons for the game, it has written retargeters to take Maximo animations and put them on my model. Damn.

Re:Sharing AI progress in mathematics on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:17PM (#49999531)
I was looking at those costs think wow, that is high.

Then I realized I was spending 3600.00 USD for Anthropic and OpenAI per year.

I would say paying 50,000 USD per year for tokens to double productivity is cheap.

And hopefully they are just paying that per developer, not per employee.

Fun, thx for sharing

But I love the smell of freshly carved wood, you would miss out on that.

I agree dream bigger!

If it gets done too fast with LLM you need to think bigger.

Re:Factorio that you can touch on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:00PM (#49849174)
If ONLY I had know to buy 16 GB of VRam on my cards. I have 12, but they struggle.

Hell if I had know that a 5090 would be worth 6000 USD I would have brought as many of them as I could for 2000 USD!

Re:Factorio that you can touch on Friday September 25, 2026 @03:55PM (#49849123)
You think Factorio its self is bad? Try the Space Exploration mod! It expands the game with a ton of fun new problems.
Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:55PM (#49805437)
I prefer Astra for creative uses, Fable seems better for hardcore coding.
True, but do you need a 10,000 dollar machine to do so?

I would love to find an excuse to buy a 10,000 dollar machine! But I cant find one yet. My current cloud bill is in excess of 400 USD per month. Just can't achieve frontier model capabilities locally.

Anthropic is reporting 100 Billion ARR.

Even if you could get a frontier model, you would not be able to run it on any Mac. So speculating on what M7 or M9 will achieve in 5 years (if we even still exist) seems pointless.

>A more apples-to-apples comparison

Don't you mean an Apple to NVidea comparison?

Re:Almost Never Use AI to Write Anything Substantive on Saturday September 19, 2026 @04:53PM (#49770036)
I use an antagonistic agent to review and refute its findings, works great.
Re:Ask HN: AI Panic, you buying it? on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @03:45PM (#49731933)
Read https://ai-2027.com/

This prediction has proven quite accurate so far.

Don't think anyone should panic, but people should be aware.
