Re:I Live My Life a Quarter Century at a Time on Monday January 06, 2025 @06:31PM (#42617362)
I'm a couple years into that range and I'm not dead yet! Only 90% of a quarter-century to go!

Secret service killed one of them and they scattered like roaches.
Re:What Parler Saw During the Attack on the Capitol on Monday January 06, 2025 @05:37PM (#42616857)
You can't expect the police to shoot their own. Capitol security are the ones that opened the gates to let people in. Biden said it best, if the majority of these people were black there wouldn't any talk of pardons or calling it a peaceful protest.
You could take a sabbatical or they could be retired.
Re:TikTok should lose its big Supreme Court case on Monday January 06, 2025 @12:52PM (#42613009)
They have just made vague comments like "national security risk."
We are passed that point. But will accept anything without resistance.
Re:Human study on AI spear phishing campaigns on Sunday January 05, 2025 @04:11PM (#42605076)
I think the logic is that we will see an increase in spearphishing which will in turn lead to increased security towards this type of attack.

Is using millions of copyrighted works to train your AI a valid exemption? Asking for a few billionaire friends.
Re:A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias on Saturday January 04, 2025 @12:18PM (#42596081)
The details matter when talking about legalities. A group of cops investigating a gang that happens to have a lot of italian members is different than having a group of cops that investigates italians.

This is a serious story but this made me burst out laughing. Sorry, the PR agent for these heavily armed militias was unable to return my request for comments.

Re:Why I'm quitting the Washington Post on Friday January 03, 2025 @08:36PM (#42591454)
Wapo and the New York Times definitely play with kid gloves on when dealing with the insane shit republicans get away it.
Re:Perplexity Got Ads on Friday January 03, 2025 @05:20PM (#42590072)
No one pays for things but very few people are going to quit because of ads. Having an ad-supported tier almost always makes the most sense.
Isn't this what Tiktok is in China? It mostly promotes educational and science content.
Re:PlasticList's Advice for Food Companies on Thursday January 02, 2025 @05:50PM (#42579869)
> take for example Bisphenol A (BPA), one of the monomers used in making polycarbonate - which most people have heard of, and has now been almost universally eliminated from things that contact food and water for human consumption.

Why did they find large amounts of BPA in more than a few foods they tested if it has been eliminated from food manufacturing process?

Title is misleading. The original team behind Honey has created a new company that is doing this and not Honey itself which is owned by Paypal.
Re:How and Why I Stopped Buying New Laptops (2020) on Wednesday January 01, 2025 @02:45PM (#42568687)
Before Framework there wasn't a good option if you did anything more than office work. Even Framework's offerings aren't powerful enough in many ways.
I suggest reading the actual report linked in the article. You don't need to change the amount of total visa numbers. Tesla has requested over 3% of the total allocation, around 2000 visas. These are typically decided by lottery but I imagine a friend in high places can make sure that lottery leans more your way then it originally would.
I imagine it is easier when you own the president.
Can I let Claude do all my trading for me? It currently sits at 77% unrealized gains.
Re:Orbit. Mozilla's AI Assistant for Firefox on Monday December 30, 2024 @09:21PM (#42555742)
I don't know what bit of news you are talking about. Unless you are just talking about the news in general which still doesn't prove anything. Any news that Google is stealing data out of GCP is not something you could just sweep under the rug in 24 hours.
Re:Orbit. Mozilla's AI Assistant for Firefox on Monday December 30, 2024 @09:10PM (#42555682)
This pivot to being Google-lite as an AI driven advertising company has been very strange and I think all Mozilla executives should be fired

out of a cannon.

Re:Orbit. Mozilla's AI Assistant for Firefox on Monday December 30, 2024 @09:08PM (#42555672)
Any revelation that Google is siphoning data out of other companies GCP instances would be so earth-shattering I don't think it is happening.
Salmon can be accumulators of plastics and heavy metals. It is not as simple was labeling things as healthy or not healthy.
Similar to "Justice is blind" it has always been an ideal and not actually reality.
People deserve to be paid for their work but you are approaching an industry that does not believe unions are useful and trying to convince them that they are useful so you should try to get the information out as freely as possible.
Re:Notes on China on Sunday December 29, 2024 @02:30PM (#42542281)
Jordan Peterson is intelligent when he is in his field I will give him that but calling Joe Rogan and Lex Friedman intellectuals should be a crime.
I can tell you my city isn't in this report.
These buildings have been vacant for years and a few of them are on the market for an absurd price. I don't think they have ill intent. I'm sure in their mind what could be ill intentioned about waiting for someone to pay them the right price? Doesn't mean there aren't very real consequences for letting these buildings sit empty.
At the risk of doxxing myself I very intentionally left it in vague. Lets say an urban area in the US west :)
