Oh yeah, that's what i call "software engineering" and excellent use of LLM's! Great to see Company's with a Mindset like that.

It has been proofed again and again that you cannot trust npm/cargo not even AUR, implement you own minimalist functionality without dependencies and just for you own needs seems to be a much better solution.

Hey have fun, not me data, not me problem.
If you are right, you can bet that YouTube-France will have Ad's every 2 seconds and Netflix gets really expensive, maybe the French Government really wants Piracy ;)
Well France that sends a signal (not important if that really tax comes).

Don't Invest as a IT-Firm, if power is ~cheap but data expensive....well there are better places.

My Tax would be around 300+80 Euros (Tor Relay)
>but it’s certainly not obvious to me that this isn’t a good thing.

Because its not a problem for Big-corp, but Opensource-Projects/Tor-Nodes, for example i would have to pay ~10$ a day just for my Tor-Relay. It's deeply Anti-Democratic and the opposite what the Internet should be.

>file sync is backup against the things most people have to deal with

I would say accidentally deleting a file is more common than a house fire, so NO, file-sync is not a backup nor is RAID (block-sync) or clustering (data/state-sync).

A backup is/should be a non-modifiable snapshot of data/files maybe even a state.

I give you an example:

You have a password-safe (as a file). Your computer blows up, but you are safe, because your password-safe is synced on Dropbox....but oh my god what was the password to Dropbox??? Your restore is gone because you forgot to "backup" your password-safe.

However you are not a Loser, being a Admin is a ~lost art and a really good paid one (again).... ;)

Maybe this is the time to revive HURD?
Re:Software may be getting worse, but it used to be horrible on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:02AM (#50257858)
Try out MVS-TK5, genius differently and opposite of horrible ;)

>>Any distro that have adopted a hard anti-AI stance?

Yes all the BSD's, and i think with the best explanation, since one cannot proof what license the llm's output has, one cannot legally implement the output under the BSD-License.

But what about Linux? They just dont care, they have the money, corporate backing and with that, all the power.

Wait is that not a 1 to 1 derived work from the official "swisstopo open geodata", taking 15.- is for sure not "fair use"

Am i wrong here?

Thanks for proofing me right.

I said don't be so sensible, don't take everything as a personal attack.

Your conclusion:

>Hopefully (for you) your next victim gets their feelings hurt. You got to get that dopamine hit somewhere

See why it's not good to have people like You in a project?

Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @01:17PM (#49955811)
>You do realise that people are complex and are unlikely to agree with Theo on everything?

No problem go somewhere else, or bring a good point, no one said you have to agree with Theo on everything.

>Because actually most people don’t want to be around conflict.

That's not a conflict, you are simply to soft and think everything is an attack on you.

>And believe me when I say I’ve written and tested a lot of software for OpenBSD over the last 2 decades.

Ehh that's ok i guess?

>So this is why I say there’s very real risk of rudeness costing projects valuable contributions.

Sometimes risks have to be taken, it's also funny that it's always people who are "potential" contributors but are in fact never the ones who contribute anything.

Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @08:45AM (#49953456)
OpenBSD is still here, with Theo.

Letting toxic one-sided-Snowflakes into your Project is "Shitting you Bed".

>What I’m saying is that Theo is more generally rude.

Nice, that means if he's doing stupid stuff i can be rude too without having to worry that a CoC or even worse a HR department threatens me to resign or publicly state what a horrible person i am.

Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @06:46AM (#49952684)
>You don’t need to be rude to be a project shield.

But you can, it's also a really good way to shy away "over-sensible" individuals, if you think that was rude.....well ;)

>Linux went through this evolution with Linus Torvalds

Not he's still the old one, just without "retro abortion"

Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @06:41AM (#49952646)
44 CVE's : https://corrode.dev/blog/bugs-rust-wont-catch/

Also stuff like: "Set Permissions at Creation Time, Not After"

Re:OpenBSD Developers Reject Uutils Coreutils on Sunday October 04, 2026 @06:31AM (#49952579)
>But his communication skills isn’t one of them.

It's the projects shield, and pretty good one at that ;)

Re:Saving another 100TB of RAM with math (and Rust) on Saturday September 19, 2026 @09:33AM (#49766486)
Exactly, that`s why i refuse to call 99.9% of "software engineers" engineers. Imagine you optimize a aircraft turbine 1%....man you get to drink a pool of champagne with the highest ceo's and aircraft carriers try to buy that turbine as fast as possible.

But with software and a install base of some millions 1% optimization is seen as wasteful, its like software slop is acceptable since forever because hardware gets faster, and electricity is "green" anyway.

Re:Research carried out using NetBSD on Sunday September 06, 2026 @03:59PM (#49590279)
they get accepted or rejected, updating ports/packets would be a wonderful AI job, check newest version, update port, poudriere the thing, test it, make patch, send to bugtracker.

Maybe the AI can even check "funny" upstream commits like it happens with npm/crate and block that stuff.

But FreeBSD ports is incredible up to date so there should be no flood of patches anyhow.

Re:Research carried out using NetBSD on Sunday September 06, 2026 @03:23PM (#49589873)
I use FreeBSD on all my machines for everything sinc about 11 years GUI is I3/X11/AMD-Card everything works, but please test it yourself, it's like with linux, you just know what's not/is working if you use it daily for all your edge-cases (maybe your scanner, maybe your barcode-scanner your Bluetooth-Stuff your wireless etcetc)

Overall i really love FreeBSD for everything computing (Pi/Laptop/Workstation/Servers).

And the community is great...wanna make a port/src-patch?...just send it to the bug-tracker, no rituals needed ;)

>Really comes in handy to still have a couple of colonies near the equator.

>It's also better to have the massive amounts of emissions far away from your own population.

That's the dumbest comment i read since a long time, thanks.

>If someone gave them a filesystem with the right license, ideas from 20+ years ago and a promise to maintain it on OpenBSD forever, I'm sure they'd take it.

They have the right to take NetBSD's UFS (with WAPBL), FreeBSD's (UFS with softupdate) or DragonFly's Hammer2.

Or give users the freedom to use ZFS (optionally) like NetBSD.

Re:9front "This Was Supposed to Be Fun" Released on Monday August 03, 2026 @03:06PM (#49160089)
If you agree with Hamas (the democratically elected government of Palestine) AND LGBTQ++ you have to be out of your Mind!!

And NO i am not pro Bibi or even think that Israel was a good or fair Idea, remember neither white or black are colors....but gray is. Your are performative just because you think your on the "good" side.

If your really have to say that "Black Lives Matters" then the problem is you!! Think about what you try to wash your Soul from...

In the end, the performative Coward is you, you are incapable to take a stance against Hamas (because then your are anti Palestine or even have Islamophobia), not against Israel (because then you are a Antisemitic), not against BLM (because of course your Racist otherwise), not against change your gender at age 12 (because are you transphobic?), and not against surrogacy (because 60yo heteros, lesbians and gays couples are allowed to have baby's (sorry...buying little humans) because that's...well otherwise it would just be not fair) you are not allowed to see the perversions in all those Ideas (because that would be Anti-Woke).

You are the opposite of the real left....you are the stone in the field that repeats echo's, you are Hitler's/Stalin's/Mao's/Pot's wet dream of a citizen.

The rise of the "new" right is because of people like you, too many contradictions and fear at poking the "white" flag, because good is good and bad is bad.

The Coward is you!

>When did you get the idea that we're trying to please anyone?

Ah, I see. Those footer flags and icons are there for ironic reasons, to poke fun at these ideas while also shining a critical spotlight on them? I see, that's the dark humor I like.

>sufficiently sanitized for them to put on their corporate website are also not who we want.

I'm pretty sure it's possible in Silicon Valley, but only for one month of the year. It's just performative AF.

But at least you split the Ukrainian in half and exchange it with the US one, again....that's the really dark humor i like.

>It seems really weird and misplaced for OSS

Or maybe ask Ori Bernstein (the contributor of gefs for 9Front) if he see that too, or maybe you are just an incredible hypocrite.

Hey 9Front! See what your wannabe LGBTQ/Palestine/Wokerism/BLM-flattery does? You get yourself into a Purity Test of insanity, and you can only please those people if you take their exact and most extreme position.

Re:9front "This Was Supposed to Be Fun" Released on Monday August 03, 2026 @10:25AM (#49156225)
>Yeah, and it’s an awful attitude.

I had a conversation with some 'educated' people about the war in Ukraine. After about ten minutes, I told them if we please can stop and if we could change the topic.

They were incredibly uneducated, I would even say disinterested in the history as we ~know it.

They saw everything in black and white, with no shades of grey.

Long story short, I told them to please educate themselves on what happened from 2013/14 until today and make their own observations (just so they can sprinkle a little grey to their world view, NOT change it just add some nuances to it).

Their answer? No time, also not that interested.

I was a little bit sad to say at least.

Maybe has something todo with that:

3. Cognitive consequences:

The difference lies in how the information is encountered. Search-based learning requires effort. Users must sift through multiple sources, evaluate relevance, and integrate partial information into a coherent whole. These activities promote deeper cognitive processing.

Re:9front "This Was Supposed to Be Fun" Released on Monday August 03, 2026 @08:39AM (#49154968)
Why not research it yourself instead of asking others? Am I the only one who thinks this is becoming increasingly common?
