Hinduism and all other subsets like Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism promote vegetarianism.
When you are poor you do not have the luxury to exclude any source nutrition, hence most kinds of meat. And conversely for the rich.
On the other hand there are poor people who are strictly vegetarian by choice and conversely rich who eat anything and call it delicacy. In cultural and religious circle, it is self imposed self control or lack thereof.
As someone from a family that does consume meat, it is a moral dilemma especially in the age of large scale factory farming.
When I have a choice, should an animal or bird, a conscious being spend it's entire life (possibly in a cage) just to end up on my plate.
Especially important for any religious person, it is the least one can do in terms of moral values.
Brahmin is not a inheritable family title, historically many Brahmins came from non-brahmin families and those who turned to materialistic pursuits were no longer considered brahmins.
I think it might be in the same line as for a Lawyer or Doctor who do not abide by their oaths.
"Caste" has it's origins in Europe, and apart from the British, the Spanish and Portuguese used castas in their colonies.
So a lot of people are going to have to look up their family names and family trees to declare their castes.
Must be easy for some English and German names - Miller, Mason, Taylor, Clark, Meyer, Church. Even Scandinavian ones - Møller, Munk ....

It is in 2022 after their property came under attack. Clearly when you have so much muck at home, you should not be holding magnifying glasses in your neighbor's home. Let us not forget that forced assimilation, sterilization was state policy in some of the the most progressive countries like Sweden, Australia & Denmark until the 1970s.
His great-grandfather was the king of a large province.
Can people call him privileged and undeserving of his position? Who can make such a claim?
Large parts of India in the last 1000 years came under Islamic and later Christian colonization. Most people have been displaced at some time or the other.
Many of the scheduled castes were often the former ruling classes who had been persecuted by the foreign invaders or skilled artisans like metal workers whose professions had been banned or taxed to extinction. The British had for example classified some communities as criminal by birth.
In the western world "non-Indian witnesses" and "horror stories" are generally products of evangelical institutions and Leftist groups (a strange partnership), and more recently pro-Pakistani & Islamic groups.
The same groups above who take great efforts find privilege in the Hindu community, fail to see any privilege among those who had converted to Islam or Christianity under colonization.
As I see it, it is true that some communities in spite of been impoverished managed to pull themselves out of abject poverty. Some who became native informants or interpreters benefited to an extent and an elite minority to a great extent. There is still a substantial population that is so far behind that it would take special concessions and provisions to get them out of poverty.
India became independent in 1947, and in 1950 the constitution provided special concessions reserving as much as 25% of the positions in schools, colleges and government jobs.
So it is neither the case that the Indians do not see that some communities deserve some extra help, nor is it the case that it is some kind of reverse discrimination, considering that the so called "upper-caste" were just as often targeted by the colonialists.
Scenario 1: AI is superior to humans in all respect and will superseed humans.
Scenario 2: AI sees some value in humans, so will preserve or merge with humans.
Scenario 3: Humans are still in control of AI but see no value in other humans. 3a: Get rid of excess humans 3b: Create hybrid humans, for the sake of preservation
Scenario 4: Humans are still in control of AI and see value in other humans that simply can not be replicated. This might lead to an emphasis on non material aspects of life, of which I know not. But I can at least agree that our material experience can not even fathom an infinite space.
If it is possible at all is anyone's guess.
It would take the one in power to lead the change (US), but having seen what they have been up to it is quite hard.
The alternative is the rise of a new power that is willing to lead a change.
With the exception of the 0.1% exceptionally good programmer, SE should only be a tool.
As someone with an engineering background, I have always regretted leaving a possible "real" engineering career to become a SE.
However, one of the first victims of AI explosion will be real engineering jobs where the rules are somewhat clear.
AI is probably going to put a lot of power in hands of people who exploit human inefficiencies and weakness, like lawyers, advertisers, marketeers, politicians ....
I was so impressed that I showed it to my neighbor, we decided to rent a projector and invited all the villagers to the fields to show it on a big screen.
The villagers really appreciated the combined effort of the Evangelists and Leftists, holding hands for a common cause. They felt that the HN comments and the articles were spot on just like their objective opinions on Modi and his popularity.
They were really thankful that some much resources have been spent on informing them who they were. One inspired young kid came up to me and promised that when he grows up, he would return the favor by studying the history of hakkenkreuz, the European caste system, forced assimilation, eugenics and forced sterilizations.
Unfortunately for my friend he has been taken away by eunuchs when he went to the city to return the projector.
The hierarchy in Europe is
Clergy, Nobility, Landowners, Merchants, Tradesmen, Peasants, People working with sewage, carcasses etc...
The fact that the Church had a monopoly on god gave rise to the rigid hierarchies. The king was the representative of god and was conferred powers through the church.
When the colonialists set foot in India, they were faced with a problem there were too many gods & no central authority. The modern hierarchies and pyramids that you are presented with is an oversimplification and invention of the British to centralize their control.
Many European carry their family profession in their surname, this is often understood as caste in modern India.
Especially the UK, who have been trying to prop up the Gandhi-Nehru family party, their heirs and Brown sahibs.
