Re:Timestral: Mistral release time-series foundation models on Monday October 19, 2026 @08:12AM (#50151435)
Time based data is extremely important, and there are tons of techniques out there to train super fast super small models, but they are a pain in the ass to tune. I could see a foundation model that is kind of good at a lot of things, that could be fine tuned or used when you want something more straight forward to use to analyze a bunch of data.

Honestly this might be very good for feature selection to refine a much more specialized model.

Re:Anthropic Subscriptions Offer 5x+ More Value Than OpenAI on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @08:00AM (#49977199)
that's a wild theory. You think there are really warehouses of GPUs that they are just sitting on until data centers are built, that will just all of a sudden flood the market?

First, the form factor of GPUs in data centers aren't the same as desktop GPUs, so you couldn't use them even if you wanted to in a normal rig.

Second, from a business perspective that doesn't make a lot of sense. It's much more likely that GPUs are going to the highest bidder/large contracts who are scooping them up to populate/upgrade data centers that are in operation because they are going to get more money per gpu on newer hardware. The "old" hardware might go to a warehouse to be auctioned to the highest bidder or go to a data center coming online, but I highly doubt they are sitting on market wrecking amounts of GPUs just waiting to flood the market. When they go bankrupt and they have to sell a datacenter or two, those datacenters being parted out as part of a bankruptcy deal I could see. Warehouses full of unused GPUs doesnt make any sense to me though.

flash next is good, I've been running it for like 2 weeks now and it's pretty solid, hope you like it and it meets your needs. I still lean on Claude and codex a fair bit for harder stuff, but I'm rapidly moving towards 2x $20 plans instead of 2x $200 plans

Re:Why Aren't Smart People Happier? on Friday August 21, 2026 @04:17AM (#49385276)
I got to this point somewhat recently, I stopped worrying, I kind of broke. I still think about the big picture a few hundred times a day, but went from worrying about it and thinking it was something I could do anything about, and really am just kind of a nihilist now. I was a nihilist for a time as a teenager, saw the world, grew to want a better world, got mad (still am pretty mad) that we don't live in a better world (good job greed), and now I am just idk, participating in the circus for what it is.

A whole combination of things lead to that last year, I had to fire a bunch of people, quit my job, trump, family stuff, living situation stuff, dog passing, etc. But ya, not fun to go through, but I would say life is a little easier if you stop worrying about the big picture, you don't have to stop thinking about it or paying attention, but just recognize there's basically fuck all you can do by just worrying about it.

Re:Why Aren't Smart People Happier? on Friday August 21, 2026 @04:05AM (#49385195)
For me it was a combination of being around people much smarter than me (I got lucky and worked at some crazy places) and realizing how disfunctional they are. There is some happy medium where you can be pretty smart and realize you are a normal person.

I've met people that are about my intelligence, who have been better educated than me, and they think they are fucking brilliant and it's just tiring as shit. They are insufferable to be around. Honestly I think a lot of silicon valely/tech bro people are a fucking chore to deal with because they have this "I'm so smart" attitude.

If you want to check your ego, try to prove yourself wrong, test theories, talk to people to get their perspective and actually try to understand them. At some point you realize how much you don't understand about the world, about other fields, and about other people's experience.

non visible text is extremely easy to filter with a git hook, a post tool call hook, or just a script. I doubt they are doing that
This is definitely not about "protect the kids" or age verification, this is a stepping stone to full identity verification to use the internet at all.

Just emailed you, I'm working on something similar https://github.com/MinistryofMany

it's basically an OIDC provider as an identity wallet using verifiable credentials, but I've got a "share link" system built in where you can share specific credentials/proofs with others.

even better

$8-10 a month would be awesome, and they would probably make a ton of money using that subscription model. It's short sighted that they don't do this.
